- EU citizens in the UK: If you have settled or pre-settled status your close family members can also apply to the EU settlement scheme.
Eligible family members who lived with you in the UK before 31 December 2020 must apply for pre-settled or settled status before 30 June 2021. Family members who do not live with you now can join you in the UK at any time in the future. It does not matter whether they are EU citizens or not as all nationalities are covered.
Which family members are covered by the EU settlement scheme?
Spouses, civil partners and unmarried partners are covered if the relationship existed before 31 December 2020 and still exists when they apply. For example, if you marry after 31 December 2020 you have to prove that your relationship was durable before this date.
Your children and grandchildren who are under 21 can join you any time. If your children are over 21 they need to show that they are dependent on you to join you. Your dependent parents and grandparents can also apply. If you have a spouse or civil partner they can sponsor these close family members as well.
If Your family member does not live with you now, they must apply to the EU Settlement Scheme before travelling to the UK
