Please, please please react to SIA - Day Too Soon - live at KCRW 2007!!! You promised a long time ago that you'll react again to her. Even if they are so different, Sydney reminds my of young indie SIA - the goofyness before singing and then slaying!!
We all know she is a professional singer, that doesn’t mean she’s had a successful career, this is her big opportunity and we’re all so so happy that such a talented person will finally have a chance.
@@altanava I have found, even in my own career, which is not in entertainment, that it doesn't matter how good you are unless someone notices. That's what opens the door.
@@user-yj3ob9kd3l totally agree.
The early years Simon kiss of death comment was that the singer sounded like what you would hear on a cruise ship. Sydnie as any starving artist did have a day job and hopes and dreams of what she just achieved. Many have won these talent shows only to be never heard from again. You can only be a cover act for so long unless you just want to sing at the county fair.
I found it much more emotional and personal to her as an adult. We know she’s been trying to get into the West End, she’s 28 and obviously trained hard. She’s that good and still needs a day job while chasing her hard worked for dream. Given the harshness & rejection that go along with show business the wistful tone, the change of the wording from “your only a day away” to “your always a day a way” is so perfect. She hasn’t given up hope, no matter how many bad today’s she’s seen she makes us believe that a better tomorrow is still in reach. It doesn’t what are personal dreams are, Sydnie makes us feel hope is not just ok but worthwhile. We watched her create her own tomorrow and we love her for all the richness, emotion and empathy she brings. I haven’t heard a voice that has so much warmth, texture and true emotional depth since the first time I heard Barbara and Celine. Thank you Sydnie for never giving up, we needed you.
Shirley Bassey?
What they said.
can honestly say no one here in the UK had heard of her before, yes of course shes sung before as she mentioned she first sung this aged 4....and she had small parts as an adult.... hopefully now she will get the recognition she deserves...stunning voice
She's spent some considerable time singing on the biggest cruise ships in the world. Semi pro.
BGT is not an exclusive show for amateurs. Innocent the Opera singer is currently the lead singer at the ENO! It’s about having a platform to finally achieve their big break. Sydnie was always transparent about her dreams to get into the West End. You can’t compare a tour and cruise ship to this dream!!!
Having worked in the West End for over 15 years I can assure you that unless you get picked straight out of college ( cheap labour) it’s almost impossible to break into. So much competition and too much politics! As Simon said, these guys must be deaf not to have chosen her. She is simply one of the best singers over ever heard and I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the West End and Broadway! So glad Sydnie has finally got her break. Her personality sets her apart from everyone ❤️
@@paintandpinotinperth7868 I never once said or implied she was an amateur. The original comment by PoppyBucket said she had 'small parts' as an adult. Contracted to sing on the two largest cruise ships in the world is by no means a small part.
@@djpj9174so? Literally no one knew who she was. People would not have gone to see her specifically in the west end or bought her albums. They will now. Cruise ships are way too limiting for her.
@@djpj9174have you ever been on a cruise? Would you remember the performers?
My youngest daughter subjected us to hundreds of playings of "Annie". This girl brought back so many memories, and then she became my "girl". I've watched her at least 50 times on UA-cam. Such a DOLL!!!! I hope she makes a billion dollars.
I hope so too! Not sure about a billion but at least enough to live well. She is fab!
She's amazing!! Her version of "My way" was absolutely flawless. What an artist!! She so deserved to win the show!! ⭐️
Every time I hear her sing it makes me sob. Even after watching her performances many times over something in her voice and timing touch me deeply. What a performer.
No new singer can have such wonderful performances. As Simon comments on her that she Is master class. Although she an experienced singer, she push herself up a new high level. Wow she not only can sing well, but she connect with everyone. We are touched by her in few seconds. This is very rare.
I love how she pulled us into her heart and gave us hope for tomorrow. Being paralyzed from a horrible accident 2 years ago I need hope and she made me feel like I have it tomorrow
Zoe, I feel your pain and happiness for Sydnie's moment. When I hear your singing voice, teaching us Sydnie's techniques, I can hear you have everything she's got vocally, You are beautiful. You have a great personality. The only difference is, she is a softer spirit, and you are strong spirit. She came to give us joy, and you came to show us how to make our joy. I cannot help but think, this moment for Sydney, will be your moment as well. You are amazing!!
Because of Sydnie, I have found you! You, I will be bringing into my classroom everyday!
Thank you for teaching us the art of music.
Something I have loved my whole life, but never understood.
What a fantastic description of acknowledgement!
I think she is one of the kind , i never heard voice before , do emotional , and what amazing about her . She is down to earth , so humble , so natural, so funny , and believe it , it will take years before some one with such beautiful personality, most singers they have ego problem , she is different , she should have her own songs , and liyrics
I’ve heard her sing a dozen times and each time I’m emotionally moved by her incredible performance
THANK YOU for sliencing the haters who want to give Sydnie grief for having studied her craft. I can't WAIT to see what's next for her.
I was blown away the first time I heard Sydnie sing a few months ago and have only recently become more interested in how she has achieved what she has. I have watched numerous reaction videos and the comments have all been very positive, however your comments and illustrations are on a totally different level. I am not a singer and never will be however I have had to learn how to make films from a few very experienced experts and the similarities are very similar. It is nice to see that you are a kiwi as I am and that you know what you're talking about and can illustrate what you are saying. I consider 'Tomorrow' to be her best performance as even though she has had a lot of preparation and training to be able to reach this level, she has a lack of appreciation of her talent and was obviously very nervous and this first performance was make of break for her and she totally nailed it. Even though her two other performances were flawless, it was this one that got her the golden buzzer and set the stage for what was to follow. Thanks for your detailed analysis as this is what I have been searching for and having subscribed to your channel, I will follow you some more to get a more nuanced view of professional singing. I have a very good friend who I filmed when she was only sixteen in a stage play and subsequently discovered that she was a member of the New Zealand Youth Choir and had an amazing voice as well, having achieved a masters degree in music and the performing arts at Victoria University. I have been endeavouring to encourage her to come out from behind the anonymity of a choir and sing solo and now at the age of 30, she is slowly beginning to do so, and I suspect that she has a very good grasp of everything that you are saying but may need some professional guidance. Sorry for the long diatribe so thanks again.
I couldn't agree more - hearing an adult sing this song takes on a whole new depth. As adults, we've been through more, we've had more rough times on average than an average child. For an adult to still hold out hope of tomorrow - never letting that hope die is just so much more emotionally impactful - so inspirational.
Her technique and humanity shine powerfully, and you articulate both through your own.
She is not a pop singer. She has a beautiful professional controlled voice - reminiscent of Judy Garland. LOVE HER!
She deserves to be seen and heard. Love her a attitude.
Love your videos… and yes, she’s a university arts trained performer who just never quite got that big break…. Did a few cruise gigs…. Failed CD… and I think COVID had an impact on anything she might have had cooking…. So this was just the perfect time and location… Just imagine you were like me, (and the rest of the audience) who had to wait like 5 weeks.. I love that she sings this song from the perspective of reminiscing. I love this version… so powerful. Every performance is amazing. I’m glad you dig her! She wants to star in the West End…
A child singing tomorrow is just a fun song.
Sydnie singing tomorrow is her singing about herself and after all she's been through there is still hope. She is phenomenal!!!! Love her! 💓🤗💓
Yes!!!!!!
I think they lyrics as an adult are kinda both uplifting and sad and i think her ending shows that. Yes tomorrow is going to be a better day, things are going to be great, but as the lyric says, tomorrow is always a day away. It never comes. She made a song associated with bratty kids into something far more adult and emotional. She's phenomenal.
Yes! It’s the realization happiness will never really come
Sydnie has beautiful harmonics in her voice, and her dynamic delivery keeps the harmonics true. She has great body language her eyes her facial expression, and the gentle movement of her hands express the emotion. All this welds together delivering an outstanding performance. In the song, she can reach out and touch your emotions. This is something rare.
Well done you Kentish maiden.
Sydnie is simply stunning!! Vocally, appearance wise and the way she puts on a true performance. She pulls you into the story she's telling and gives us the privilege of becoming 'her' emotional partner as she tells that story.
I hear a lot of Judy Garland style singing especially in the beginning of the song on certain words. Deep and "meaty" (is the best way I can explain what I'm meaning) much like Ms. Garland... I miss her.
I really love your channel. Thank you for saying there's nothing wrong with having put in the hard work. She has obviously worked so hard and I am so happy for her. She deserves it.
Sydnies performance here breaks my heart. So much truth and honesty in her story. She makes it her story here more than any other singer.
PS. Something I felt watching the first time & notice rewatching makes me love & respect Sydnie even more. She knew this was her best chance ever to basically audition for every show/producer in the West End at once and made it clear that was her goal, no fear of the “too Broadway” label (I hate how some shows act like that’s a bad thing since only the best can do it). I can only imagine the fear & excitement especially after engaging with the crowd went so well. Then there was the Simon hates this song moment, that would be enough to rattle anyone but the way he was staring at her before she started, talk about if looks could kill. She was visibly thrown by that intensity but was smart enough even under so much pressure to mentally step back, close her eyes, throw off the negativity and centre herself to be ready to let her gift shine at the most important moment of her career to date. That’s bravery, commitment and grace under fire.
Yes, Simon was looking down and she needed him to approve. So, she looked over at him before she began, knowing that she had to win him over. They connected, she calmy centered herself and let it rip. She looked his way again when finished as he was standing and clapping. She knew she succeeded!
You are the first coach that takes te time to explain in all details... Very appreciated! 👌
The tone in her voice reminds me of Helen Reddy. Beautiful coloring..just as wonderful as the stratospheric notes to me.
Sydnie takes you on a personal trip, as if we all are her best friends and holds us in the palm of her voice.
❤
You took that off the tip of my tongue, Helen Reddy, .
I love how she took it big and then pulled us right into her heart at the end absolutely amazing
Me too!!!
I have gotta say I absolutely loved this audition 😍
In this post review, i got 2 jackpots.
Jackpot#1: This is the best vocal review i have ever encountered & ii learned a lot. Thank you Zoe. /*/ And Jackpot#2: The humility i felt from Sydnie Christmas. Her character glowed with a humble heart while singing like an angel. Thank you Sydnie.❤❤❤
Sydnie is really amazing. Every time I hear her sing it gives me chills. Zoe.... be encouraged beautiful. Let's have it:-) I am so happy for her!!! You can do this. I believe in you. Later after being on BGT she mentions that she loved the vocal trainer she had with BGT and learned more than when she did in school. That trainer is now her vocal coach. Zoe I love what you do too. Thank you. My vocal coach retired. Since having Covid having many issues with my voice.
You can still be a receptionist as we all need to earn money but she kept moving forward to reach her dreams. Zoe as you said we know how it can be to keep trying and trying and feel like your getting nowhere. Be encouraged.
Finally, Zoe, you listened to it. 🙂Please listen to the other two songs presented at BGT. As for the receptionist, she isn't the only singer with a day job to survive.
You are such a great vocal teacher. I am a fan of yours.
Zoe, I very much enjoyed your technical analysis and the emotions I think we all experienced with this music and knowing that perhaps we have witnessed the birth of a very bright star.
Love her audition! 💗 Noticed the just one word change from “Only” a day to “Always” a Day away just that one word changes the whole meaning of the song! 🎶
I love how she comes across as unassuming from her simple audition outfit to her perfect choice of song giving us letting her talent shine without going overboard she really turns it up with her rendition of “ My Way”
Dressing down was very appealing for the audition. It was an introduction and she was very unpretentious and genuine. She was not glitzy, but the girl next door. That enabled the audience and the judges to focus on the performance. It also made the energy come through better from a simpler instrument, which she was. Her humility came through loud and clear. She also tweaked My Way with the change from "what is a man" to "what is a woman." All three performances were very personal. At the end of tomorrow with the words, "I love you," she looked over at her nans, so it was a personal heartfelt statement to them. Everything was very well delivered.
@@user-yj3ob9kd3l Yes Exactly! You Get it! ☺️
You're a lovely person. I love it how you are emotionally involved with your music. Bravo for both of you.
Oh wow thank you!
YOU Absolutely must review MY WAY and her finale OVER THE rainbow. Her power and control in both her last performances will make you pass out. INSANE VOCALS. Ive NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT.
A marvellous reaction, Zoe, and very compelling analysis of Sydnie’s emotional and heartfelt performance of Tomorrow - delivered with consummate professionalism, and ease. I particularly liked your elucidation of Sydnie’s colour changes; it is remarkable what a good electrician can achieve these days, don’t you think? Thank you so much for this! 👍❤️
I also like how she engages the audience with her eyes. She's constantly looking around at the audience and singing to them !!
Me too - she has such a beautiful expressive face
indeed.. indeed..
Yes, her eye movements were very meaningful. That was Simon's worst song. She knew that she had to win him over and looked at him until he looked up at her. They connected. She centered herself and delivered a very heartfelt version. When finished, she first looked lovingly over at her nans and then looked at Simon again as he stood clapping. She knew she succeeded, if he approved and he did. She had a look of satisfaction knowing she did, in fact, win him over. He was the challenge, and she met it. 👏 It was splendid!
I’m still wondering if she knew he didn’t like that song and picked it as a do or die audition piece.?
From what I can gather her “professional career” has consisted of a bit part in a West End show years ago, a few self produced songs and a few cruise ship gigs. Now is her time and I expect she has done the famous 10,000 hours of preparing herself to become an overnight smash!
She was in starlight express for 4 years in Germany playing various lead and cover roles. This is not overnight ;)
Her emotions and yours are beautiful in this. ❤
Hahaha GD you’re amazing!! I love how you’re like IT’S NOT NATURAL!!! Lol
I have cried so many times listening to her it’s pretty ridiculous!! I cried for the same reasons!! That and seeing her and her grandma’s reactions are so amazing to see
I like you. You’re very entertaining and honest! I love your critique!!😊
Hi Zoe. That was quite a performance by her and analysis by you (colorful language notwithstanding). Most of Sydnie’s roles on Starlight Express in Germany were as a “Swing”, meaning she was an understudy for 6 different minor roles, and had to jump into any of those roles if the performer wasn’t available for that show. She even has a video on her channel showing the 6 different books she kept available for each role. She also performed in Royal Caribbean shows. So she has good technique and experience, but I bet nobody remembered her name after they left the theater.
Well said, I couldn't help compare her to the journey of the Bible story of "Joseph Sold into Egypt." Her rejection, has given her experiences that will make her gold.
London's answer to Barbara Striesand, hopefully sydnie will follow same route, theater, movies and cut music
Thank you for offering your insight on this performance. I enjoyed it. I imagined her performance was flawless, or nearly so. I was glad to hear a professional confirm this. She ... nailed it. ❤
Sydnie is an amazing singer, and you are an amazing analyst
You need to listen to the next 2 songs. Beautiful, powerful, big goose bumps
The three songs were great choices and the sequence perfect. Tomorrow holds hope, she did it her way and dreams really do come true. Perfect!!
Kia ora! Love your passion and how you are sharing your knowledge. Sydnie made me cry too! Cheers.
Wonderful analysis! Educative and with your voice and candor and love of vocal music loud and clear. And, Sydnie! What a treat to hear her sing!
Love your channel, your videos - not just "informed opinion," but actual instruction, defining terms- ...Non-musical person here but very interested in understanding - Superb and Thank You. You have a beautiful voice as well and your demonstrations are extremely helpful. 🙂
She's a beautiful soul. Truly genuine. Simon said, and he is right. No ego. Someone else that deserves recognition is Keala. Cherry Wine - hozier (cover by Keala) She just speaks. So good.
She's a power house! I love her attitude and her control, timbre, and dynamics are truly outstanding. Such stage presence and connection with the audience. I normally don't care for Broadway music, but she draws me in and makes me emotional! You go Sydnie!
I so fell in love with her after this performance. Her personality is amazing and infectious. So naturally funny and humble.
And her voice. Wow. She has the power of Shirley Bassey without being a Diva. She has the smooth Jazz tones of the the greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington all rolled into one.
Her career is guaranteed. And I want t-shirt with her on it with the caption "Let's av it!!" 😂.
I so want to see her much more. And I too am waiting for her album which I'm convinced will come 👌🇬🇧❤️
I love you and love your insight and honesty. X
Absolutely LOVE your attitude!
Oh wow thank you Chris!
You definitely have a fan! I love listening to people that are experts in their field explaining nuances! I love music just not an expert in music! If you have ANY questions about helicopters I'm your guy! That's my field of expertise lol. Thank you for an amazing reaction!
You think this performance is amazing... Go check out her version of "My Way". OH....MY.....GOODNESS!!!!!
Just came across your channel, well honestly it just popped up on my feed and I haven’t t he e foggiest idea WHY?
I’m not a singer, I love music- however I don’t have the skill or “ Natural Ability” to sing. If I try to sing the dog starts howling, birds fly away in fear, and my daughters say, “Dad, we love you But Please stop!” It’s really and honestly that bad! A friend of mine from Australia said, “Oh come on Mate, it can’t be that bad”, after I told him what others have said. I started singing one of my favorite songs that I really enjoy and got about the first line in when he exclaimed, “OH BLOODY HELL Bob! Please STOP MATE!” Yeah, truly it’s that bad!
That being said, it doesn’t mean that I can’t recognize a truly Beautiful Voice or understand the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that it takes to achieve one’s dreams!
And you Ms Zoe are a truly beautiful young Lady with a voice that is just as equally beautiful and talented! It is obvious by your degrees that you too have trained long and hard to achieve your dreams as well. You and Ms Christmas both make this old man wish that I were 45 years younger . I’m pushing 72 years old . Like a beautiful voice, I appreciate a beautiful Lady as well. My apologies if I came across offensively . That Truly is not my intention. Respectfully, Bob StrongBear (located in a high mountain valley in Northern Utah, USA)
@strongbear9304 oh wow thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful heartfelt comment, I really appreciate it thank you ❤️❤️❤️ if you enjoy singing, just do it! My Dad does (and he does not sound good, but we belt it out together to his favourite songs ❤️) thank you
Loved watching you and your reaction. Thanks so much for your work...
19:32 "You as the singer don't wanna be crying, you wanna be shortly before the crying holding back those feelings because it's not about you having a cathartic moment in that point of time it's about you giving your audience that cathartic moment".
Crying in the form of great sadness whilst singing only works when it is organic and just happens rather than forced (fake). Obviously you'd have to have control of the song so you can't have sudden outbursts of emotion ruin the performance but a bit of genuine shakiness can be compelling and gets to the audience if it just happens. A case in point is Kelly Clarkson's live stripped back acoustic version at American Idol of "Piece by Piece". She started normal but obviously feeling the song but broke down in the middle fighting tears trying her best to be composed and in control but at the end lost it completely. The piano player to his credit stayed with her throughout and even adapted to her "mistakes". The celebrity judges were also in tears. Music has rules that should be followed but can be broken only after you master them. While many don't get away with it the masters do.
Frank Sinatra once said "I don't care what people say about me behind my back but I know this: when I sing I believe I am honest".
Loved your sermon about training being reduced to calling the result natural talent. To my mind, it cheapens all that effort. Thanks for your hard work.
I think so anyway Larry, she did amazing work and deserves to be praised for it too.
Oh my goodness your channel is the best. I am sharing you with my niece. She will love you!!!
Omg just found your channel I love you already ❤️ LMFAO preach!!!
Wow you sound amazing too!
Tks for yr genuine react. Loved it. Greetings from Brazil! That was really a great performance!
I love this audition and her other performances. Regarding the lyrics (I’m not a native English speaker), I first thought there is a love interest but the singer isn‘t sure yet (i love you tomorrow), but after hearing it some times, I understood, that its about new chances, that every new day brings. It‘s really a beautiful text, not only for children, for everybody that has a really bad time.
totally love your videos. thank you!
I enjoyed watching you watch Sydnie as a vocal coach and hearing your analysis. I can feel your appreciation for her hard work and training, and making the most of her gift. I loved watching her and am so happy for her. She's lovely, as are you. (I love your glasses!)
I just subscribed. I love how you break down the science of voice. I listen to you and I get so mesmerized lol
Great reaction! You have a very nice voice, as well! Just subscribed. :)
Excellent breakdown of the process

I've only just found your channel 😁, to be honest a lot (well most) of what you say I struggle to understand what you mean (ie, singing techniques etc), but that really doesn't matter, because how you say what you say is so honest and heartfelt I am compelled to listen!! Thank you for that ❤❤and who knows,I may actually learn something 😜😜.
Oh wow thank you John for such a lovely comment. I appreciate not everyoje knows all the ins and outs of singing. But it is always great to see that people can enjoy the videos regardless ;)

Ben waiting for you to know about Sydnie and to react to all three of her performances? You are in for a treat. You will be happy and content with her singing techniques. I know you love a great open mouth. You will love hers over the three courses.

Thank you so much!
@ZoeStibiVocalCoach My friends on America's Got Talent from the 2016 season went to the finals, I would love for you to do a video on them. They are called Linkin Bridge from Louisville Kentucky.
I like that her voice is her own. For years after Missy Higgins came out female singers on these sorts of shows imitated to judges just wouldn’t listen to them and not just Missy themselves. They would imitate and yes it was overwhelmingly female. I found the most men would sing as themselvesbut most I love this girl has got her own voice.
When you said she raises her voice on the last verse, it's not only that, the song modulates to a higher key and that helps the finality. I can't believe the vocal coaches miss this.
You are amazing person ❤
Oh wow thank you!
i did watch Zoe the Voice Coach giving a deep tech analysis when 2023 AGT finalist Ms Putri Ariani of Indonesia who d also a unique voice.. then when she the coach reviewing this BGT 'unkown' at first.. i have to spare time to listen and get the feeling.. appreciating the singer and even this unkown song to myself.. then i m more convince n deeper of the evalution when few other pro voice coach whom reviweing Putri ability are also expressing their credit to this new comer of Londonise unknown singer but with superb superb voice n performance..
In general, I go by the 10,000 hours of work for high performance in any skill to become top level in any field.
Great reaction!❤
Now you have to react to songs 2 n 3. TalentKingHD put out her trio of songs and the audio has been corrected. BGT really screwed up the Over The Rainbow audio with all the flipping or whatever you call sound breaks.👍🌹❤️
I think when people say natural they mean born to sing. She has been singing since a child. She has the most amazing stage presence and that can't be taught you either have it or you dont and Sydnie has it by the bucket load. I could watch you perform all day and not get bored. Forget the West End she could fill arena's all over the world! . You go girl!
I agree with you there. There is an ease about her.
New sub here. I like how you get to the point and let us enjoy the video and your insightful commentary. If I may ask, I would love to see your reaction to: My Way - America's Got Talent - Sal Valentinetti - Golden Buzzer
That will get you to the video I would love to watch you react to. Be blessed, young lady.
An old af boomer that refuses to ACT old!
I’m obsessed with all of Sydnie’s performances and with her. I’ve listened to all 3 songs 100 times now. But if you ever want to hear someone who might not even have lungs in his body, even though rap might not be your thing (usually isn’t mine), Eminem’s verse in Speedom and then Godzilla are like things I’ve never heard before in terms of speed and breath control. He was put in the Guinness book of world records for speed of Rap God, then broke that record. Not sure if they’re always appropriate for your show though lol
You missed the introduction to her , she had the audience in the palm of her hand before she started singing , so down to earth and very funny
Tears of joy
Will there be more Eurovision live reactions? Would really like to hear your opinion on some live performances for songs that you reacted before the contest (France, Portugal etc) :)
Her first appearance she was dressed like someone in a Greyhound Bus Station going home for Christmas...The second stage she was a knockout and sang so beautifully to match. One of the best I've heard in a long long time.
I think it was very much planned how she looked at the start ;) they choose what you wear, not you ;)
Professionally trained singer, doesn't equal achieving your goals as a singer. This girl has been turned down so many times even with a pro voice. This shows you, no matter your voice, you still need to get that break to make it.
Yes, while talent is necessary, it's who notices.
Yes you do. But she had some good jobs actually. More than some, I think "constantly turned down" is not right.
I would love to see you do Blackfoot's Highway song
I cant figure out the price , also it looks like im going to have to buy thousands of dollars on mics etc and I dont want to be on u tube
Yoy should here over the rainbow. Ande the one on de semi final Frank senatra she is incredable
This version of tomorrow she sings is from Marsha Wallace from 4 years ago for a covid fundraiser. Sydnie gave credit in an interview about that rendition. She still charged it a bit to make it hee own. Amazing job for Sydnie,
Wait until you hear her version of over the rainbow. Loren aldred is her idol. Loren gave her permission to sing her version. AGT vocal coach changed it enough to mske it her own in away. Another stunning performance by Sydnie
