Thanks Zoe for the reaction, we all love a bit of Syd, but, I feel this performance should not be subject to professional criticism. Given that Syd is thrown immediately into having to start singing without any lead in, and that she is obviously participating in an event with her peers and idols, she is there for the craic. Absolutely nothing wrong with her performance (is there ever?) but to me she seems to be doing it for her own enjoyment and the pleasure she is getting from finally performing in front of a fully appreciative audience, and I love that she seems so relaxed and full of the enjoyment of life. As Lonewolf has suggested below, the Royal Variety performance is the one that us mere mortals need to have dissected and have the magic of Syd explained to us. Happy New Year. 🥰🤩

"Impossible Dream" is stunning. And "Believer" is straight channeling Dame Shirley Bassey and is an unapologetic audition for whatever James Bond movie comes next.
