I think it makes more sense for people traveling in groups than maybe singles or a couple. Splitting the cost of a private transfer for our group of 8, is about $50 each. We saved over $500 on the flights themselves by flying in to TQO instead of CUN. So, even with the expensive transportation it was a better price. I will follow that up with "seemingly" a better price. We don't travel until June 1, so I will follow up after.
I can see where with groups it would be a much better cost per person. Hopefully someone will realize that they are pricing themselves out of a lot of business. Just copy the model used in Cancun and that airport will take off. Pun intended. LOL
I just booked round trip private service with Canada Transfers. $174 to & from RIU Tequila in Playacar. I’ll have my “Tulum Airport 2024, What To Expect” video up Sunday April 14.
Good, maybe somebody with some sort of business sense explained the insanity of what they were doing and it was rectified. Glad that you were able to get it for a better price, but that still seems a little high, but then everything here in Riviera Maya seems expensive. Thanks for sharing and have a great time!
I’m traveling alone and as a woman, safety is my priority. I paid $270 for my transportation from the airport to the hotel( jungle, not beach area). Crazy prices for sure!
It truly is nuts. One would think that they would want to make it easier and at least no more expensive than Cancun. The goal was to siphon off some of the Cancun airport travelers to ease the crowding there. With insane prices like these for ground transportation, they are very counterproductive towards that end. Thanks for watching.
The ground transportation is more than the flights. I assume these are one way fares? I’ll stick to Puerto Vallarta. The bus at the airport will drop you off in Zona Romantica for 10 pesos. $0.60 USD
Yeah, those are all one way fares. Astonishing really that they are that much out of synch with the rest of the area when it comes to those prices. We will be glad to get back to regular Mexico real soon. LOL
Those are very high prices...i was in Zihuatanejo a week ago and we paid 350 pesos to get to centro but we took taxi from outside the airport ...very different there.
What is really weird here is the number of taxis that are just sitting waiting for fares all over the place. But when those are the prices, I can see why they aren't getting much business. I would be hard pressed to add a big tip on when I know what the same taxi ride would cost in other parts of the Riviera Maya, much less the rest of Mexico.
About adding a big tip? How could you possibly give one single penny..they are committing high way robbery. For God's sake. I d rather wait 3 hours for ado bus just not to reward greed which exceeds that of loan sharks.
I hope that they are providing a good explanation that makes sense to the travelers. Tourists will not use what they don't understand. They would rather pay the money.
I was planning to travel to Tulum to ride the train to cancun. Thank yoi for updating us! Those taxi prices are crazy!! I would walk outside the airport area to find a local street taxi.
We haven't been out to the airport itself, but it is really in middle of the jungle and there isn't much around it. It is a good drive from downtown Tulum as you have to go the two legs of the triangle to get there. But we have noticed where we live, that there are many makeshift taxi stands. Glad that we could help.
If they would just build a road straight to Tulum from the airport, it would cut down the drive time and the expense. Hopefully that is coming in the future. Thanks Amanda for sharing that info.
Much of Mexico is becoming a "non-option" for my future retirement "possible travels destinations" (simply priced out). 😢 Waiting to see your future locations for better alternatives . Thanks 👍🤠✌️
Yeah Tony, the whole Riviera Maya has become very, very expensive. So far it appears that the center of the country is where the affordable lifestyle can be found. We will keep sharing with you as we continue to travel around.
It is quite staggering to say the least. Not sure if anyone thought this all the way through when they implemented those fees for ground transportation.
You get greased first by the taxis when you arrive and then again when you leave. There is supposed to be government meters in all taxis in the state of quintana roo in april. looks like the taxi unions have spoken to the governor about that....
Yeah, they are hitting the tourists hard and it is sad. It is a little short sighted as it will adversely impact the tourist trade and people will find less expensive places to travel.
I was blown away when I was researching this Jesse. This could be one of the reasons that the Tulum Airport has not garnered the share that the government had hoped to help lessen the traffic into Cancun. Recently a lot of carriers have started to reduce the number of flights into Tulum. Now that the Maya Tren is open, that may help this as well.
That is definitely some hardcore gouging. Taxis in Tulum are also gouging people going to and and from the beach as well. Left a very bad taste in my mouth. Will not be going back there.
I thoroughly understand that logic. If you are going to have to be forced into spending that type of money, you might as well get the best bang for your buck! Thanks for watching.
Hard pass 😂 I got a ride from Cancun airport to Puerto Morelos with four suitcases for only US$40 with Run Run. I did tip $10 on top of that. These prices are very gouging and ridiculous.
I know Maxine. This is pricing this airport out of most people's discussion as to where to fly into here in Riviera Maya. Put that in conjunction with the Maya Train situation and I would be hard pressed to know why anyone would fly into this airport. Cozumel and the ferry would be cheaper.
I am a Mexican national living in Cancun and I am embarrassed that my fellow country men are so short sighted and abusive to the hand that feeds them. The government is mostly to blame, they can easily put an end to corrupt taxi mafia but are unwilling given their corrupt nature. I am sorry to say, but Cancun taxis and general transportation companies are some of the worst in the world.
So very true. There is so much money waiting to be shared, that doing so in a reasonable manner leads to an increase in the amount that goes into the pie that everyone is sharing. But sometimes it is harder to reform what has been the norm for so long.
@@GringosRUs makes no sense. You can take a taxis for a 80 usd from Cancun airport to playa (and 50 if you know private car companies). Theres something really strange with that pricing.
Holy cow, what a rip-off! Can't the local government do anything to lower the rates? I'm not sure that locals vacationing there could afford the rates either.
Yeah Cindy, but my question is, what about the people who work at the airport? They definitely are not paying that price each way to go to work. If they are, I may have to go and apply for a job there. The other question is who is responsible for those high rates? State government, local government or the taxi companies? It is going to have to change if they want people to use that airport as those rates are a game changer when considering which airport to choose.

Thanks so much for sharing this! Really shocking and very helpful to the traveler thinking it will be SO cheap to get around. Great video…
It was shocking when I was doing the research. I knew that taxis here were on the high side, but, my goodness, that is ridiculous. Thanks Cathy.

There’s nothing outside the airport but jungle, the ADO bus is only 11 or 12 U.S.D. from Tulum to the airport.
@GringosRUs how much are street cabs from airport? How safe is ADO? We're heading to Tulum Dreams.
Wow! This rates are wild!!!
If you were flying domestically, the ground transportation will cost you about as much as some flights if not more.

Unfortunately, Quintana Roo has gotten crazy expensive. You start to wonder how even the locals can handle the prices.
It is true. We are so looking forward to getting back on our tour of "regular" Mexico. LOL
Local Mexicans have difference prices, and they also take buses.
I'd be taking the bus or looking for the collectivos.....
I agree. For a collectivo however, you really can't have more than a backpack.
From what we have seen arriving here at the condo complex, that is quite often the case, the backpack that is.

I knew it was going to be high, didn't think it would be astronomical.
Yeah, that is another level of math, isn't it?
Do you know if you can rent a car at the airport? If so, that might be the way to go. Traveling to Tulum airport in June.
It is showing that there is at least two different car rental agencies at the Tulum airport. We did also see some rental agencies in town as well.
Shocking is right

Sorry Ramon. We didn't need a rental car as we have our own vehicle. We did see that there was a few rental car companies in Tulum.

We just got back from Tulum, we hired a private transfer from Centro Tulum to the new airport for $85 U.S.
That is not a far distance, but it is a longer drive due to the lack of a direct road into Tulum from the airport. Thanks for sharing the info John.
Would you mind sharing the info for the transportation carrier?
A taxi from cancun airport to the bu terminal cost me 1200 pesos. Ha ha.
Ouch. I know that is less than some fares, but damn, $60 USD is still steep.
Is there a bus that comes to the airport
Not that I found when I did the research. If you go to the Tulum Airport website, they listed the ground transportation that was available.
How much are ADO bus from tulum to PDC
I don't know the answer to that question. We have a car and I didn't research the ADO prices from the airport. Sorry
$300mxn which is $15
