  • We review and test the Dyson Omni-glide. See cleaning tests on hard flooring, hair, edges, and large debris. We also report run times, suction power, and noise levels. See the Omni-glide at Bed Bath & Beyond: bit.ly/3BrsQ20
You can also read our review: vacuum-cleaner...
We walk through what’s in the box. Then we discuss the controls on the vacuum handle showing both the on/off button and the Max power button. Note that the Omni-glide does not use a trigger system like most other Dyson cordless vacuums.
The cleaner head has 2 soft brushrolls. Both can be easily removed and rinsed in water should they need to be cleaned. After they are dry you simply pop them back on and put the cleaner head together (takes seconds). The underside of the cleaner head has four 360 degree rotating caster wheels which help the head move very well on hard flooring. The filter comes off with a simple twist and it too can be rinsed in water. When it is completely dry you slide on back on over the handle and give it a twist to reinstall it.
Movement of the cleaner head is fantastic and we show just how easy it is to move the vacuum over hard flooring. In addition, the vacuum can lay completely flat. This allows you to get under very low furniture. We measured the distance from the floor to the top of the vacuum (highest point just above the cleaner head when laying flat) at approximately 3.25 inches.
The battery is in the vacuum handle and it pops out at the push of a button. It is a lithium-ion battery. The battery is also what is commonly referred to as “swappable” or “click-in” as it can be removed from the vacuum and reattached to the vacuum in seconds. This is a very handy feature and can double your run time if you have a second battery. But the Omni-Glide only comes with one battery so if you want a second you will have to buy it separately. Recharging a fully depleted battery takes about 3.5 hours.
The Omni-Glide is a 2-in-1 vacuum meaning that it is both a stick vacuum and a handheld vacuum. The combination tool (which is the only tool that comes with your Omni-Glide) can fit on the end of the handheld or on the end of the wand providing a long reach (good for overhead cleaning).
The combination tool (which is the only tool that comes with your Omni-Glide) can fit on the end of the handheld or on the end of the wand providing a long reach (good for overhead cleaning).
We created our own debris of ground cheerios, chili flakes, flax seeds and split green peas (small-to-medium size debris) and placed it on our tile flooring. We ran the vacuum over it in ECO power mode (one pass) and the unit provided 99.3% pickup. This is an excellent result. We also tested the unit on larger debris (full size fruit loops). It did ok on the larger debris test but not great.
We tested the vacuum on short white pet hair and long black human hair. Hair pickup wasn’t very good and there was a lot of tangling in the brushrolls. Brushroll cleaning was required after this test.
An edge cleaning test showed off the flexibility of the cleaner head which could tackle the debris in a few different ways. By moving the cleaner head around we were able to pick up virtually all the debris along an edge.
We highlight that the vacuum handle is a bit thick and it could feel a bit large for those with smaller hands.
We walk through the Omni-Glide suction power figures and compare them to those of the Dyson V7 and the Dyson V15. We highlight that the dust canister of the Omni-Glide is very small, and we compare dust canister sizes of the Dyson V7, the Dyson V15 and the Shark WANDVAC System.
We compare the weight of the Omni-Glide to that of the Dyson V7 and the Shark Vertex Cordless. The Omni-Glide is the lightest cordless vacuum we have had the opportunity to review and this light weight also helps with the easy movement.
The vacuum comes with a “wall mount” and mounting kit. However this is not what we would call a traditional wall mount. It will not support the weight of the vacuum and is really more of a bracket that just holds the top of the vacuum in place while the bottom of the vacuum rests on the floor. It will not hold any tools but the vacuum will charge.
We performed a noise level test with a digital noise level meter and we compare results to a host of other cordless vacuums we have noise tested. The Omni-Glide noise level is average in ECO mode (fairly comfortable noise level) and it is perhaps a little loud in MAX mode (but still tolerable).
Run time tests were done using a stopwatch and a fully charged battery. Three instances were tested: handheld with non-motorized tool (ECO power mode), stick vac with cleaner head (ECO power mode), stick vac with cleaner head (MAX power mode). Official run times provided by Dyson were compared to the test results.

I’ve had mine for a few months and it’s shocking how much dust/short pet hair it picks up. It’s definitely not great at a lot of large debris, partly because the bottom opening is really small. It can also clog easily because of that-but it’s pretty easy to clean aside from hair gets tangled around the outside edges. I wish the handle was a little longer. Love everything else about it tho-it will make your life so much easier if you have a lot of hard flooring!

There is a major flaw with this vacuum. The castor wheels get stuck with hair and there is no way to take the axle out to clean stuck hair in the axle and wheel.
Dyson proposes to simply replace the two wheel modules. However there is a way to do it and it involves drill a hole to have access to the other side of the axle to slide it out and push it out

I went looking for a cordless vacuum today. I looked at 3 Dysons: V10, V15 and Omniglide. The V10 and V15 were top heavy and when I held it over an imaginary bin to empty it, it was much too heavy for me. I am in a powerchair and I need a vacuum that is light and easy to maintain. I did have an omniglide at the beginning of the year but the dust fell out when I stopped vacuuming. Looking at the Omniglide today I realised you have to empty it after each room but as it is so lightweight this should not be a problem. I am thinking maybe the dust fell out as the bin was too full. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem?

Thank you, I appreciate being able to see an independent (of the brand or seller) review on something I'm thinking about buying, especially when it can be $300-$400 or more. You covered all the issues with which I had concerns and I feel comfortable in going ahead and ordering one.

The motor is not very loud. And because this one floats, you don't hear any scraping sounds on the floor.

It looks like it's the same system as the other Dyson handhelds, but it would've been nice to include a segment on dust cannister emptying!

System is similar to the V10/V11/V15. You push a button on the side of the canister, slide the canister down, and the bottom door pops open. It's actually easier to use than those on the V10/V11/V15 because it is much smaller. I just put up a quick clip showing how it works

Thank you very much for this review. You're doing an excellent job organizing the information! Would you be interested in comparing Dyson Micro 1.5 vs. Omni-Glide? Both are designed to use on hard floors. However, some reviewers claim they work on short-hair carpets or rugs. I'm also wondering how the Micro would work with the Omni-Glide's brush. (I consider buying Micro and maybe buy a spare Omni-glide brush. It would be interesting to see how the handle affects the brush's maneuverability.) As a potential buyer, I'd like to see how the Omni-Glide feels when vacuuming tabletops or shelves. It doesn't look too ergonomic in that respect... ;/ If that's possible, I would appreciate such a review. I'm sure more people would find a similar comparison interesting. Thank you very much!! 👋🏼

Well, I got my answer - in a way. I finally bought Micro - loved the weight and look of it. But I swapped it for V12. I don’t think Micro is suitable for even flat rugs. It’s true it doesn’t get halted on them, but the suction power is not enough. I wouldn’t recommend it. V12 is noticeably heavier but I love it. It works great!

I am thinking to buy the omniglyde or the Samsung jet75pro.
    Which one would you recommend?
I have animals no carpet, stairways and couch that is fabric.
Reasons if for omni is light for stairways and easy too use of light weight.
Reasons jet75pro thinking is more powerful then the omni and could also do carpet on stairs and the couch, but is 1kg heavier and larger maybe clunky too use.(these are my assumptions )
    Advice would be nice
