Afternoon, Sir. The compound never ceases to amaze me, but this video raised my heart rate a bit. And I am a Smith revolver person for the most part. If only those Colts could only tell you where they've traveled thru the years.
I couldn't have made a decision like that. I want them all!! So beautiful. What a awesome way to set a table. So amazing the mama and baby deer didn't leave that was so cool.
AMAZING ! ! Around 18 minutes you see Mama Deer and Bambi grazing down range and don't even flinch when the gun goes off. They just nonchalantly meander through the target area as if he's not even there.
I have a Colt SAA with 5 1/2" barrel chambered in .38-40, make in 1904. I learned to shoot a handgun with that gun at age 11 and carried it for many years. In Jan 1973 it saved my life! In the early '90s I semi retired it and bought a new generation Colt SAA with 4 3/4" barrel in .45 colt! That has been my primary carry gun ever since. These guns are what I feel the most competent and proficient with. For me they they have a "pointability" I have never been able to duplicate with any other handgun. At any distance under 20 feet I don't have to use the sights. Came in handy in near darkness that Jan night.
I think you made a great choice. If I had to pick one I would most likely choose the 1887 1st generation colt. I like the ivory grips and in the video it looked like it was a 7.5in barrel which I really like. I feel the 7.5in barrel is way better in many ways for me.
I want to thank you for all your work and inspiration over the years. The first handgun I ever bought was a single action revolver, on my 30th bday. In Canada, here we are three years later, where the government is actually coming to take them away. (When I die, I believe) Soon, no one here will be able to buy or sell these anymore. I am appreciating mine on my table right now, too.
That was a good choice. I would've gone for the one with the shorter barrel and the fat grips except for that nickel finish. I had a Colt Trooper back in the 80s that probably still sports my big fat PERMANENT thumbprint just under the cylinder release. The Hickok45 shooting range and game preserve. Two things I never would have thought to combine, and yet it worked!
Good choice. You're a fan of the Colt SAA. I myself, had I been in such a position to choose, would have chosen the Schofield because it's faster to eject cases and reload. Plus, it's just a darn good looking gun.
Absolutely amazing collection! Thanks for sharing I could never choose! Too tough to decide. Colt single action revolvers are my all time favorite guns.
I have 5 long guns 8 hand guns 1 being a colt detective special 38 w/2 inch barrel nickel finish. But i cant shoot any of them very good getting too old too learn now at 84
You’ve got enough single actions there to arm an entire Calvary. Looks like you’re ready to arm a John Wayne/ John Ford Movie. BTW, probably take the Schofield, only because I’ve always wanted one.
Beautiful collection, I wish the Schofield would've made it a little farther than being one of the first to get tossed! I just got one with a 5 inch barrel, very excited to give her a spin next time I go home.

Going back in time and seeing who in my family was living in the times of the frontier was amazing found out my great great great grandfather was a sheriff in those days not quite sure where but it’s nice to know my family stood for law and order in those times
Mine would be my old model Super Blackhawk. Accurate as all heck and what more needs to be said about the power and versatility of the .44 Magnum / .44 Special?
A great gun for sure. For me if I had to go through mine I'm afraid mine would have to be my Super Blackhawk 5 1/2" barrel with Dragoon grip frame and fluted cylinder.
OMG.... I gotta say this is probably one of my favorite videos of yours and just at the right time, since I just purchased my first single action colt! I've always looked at you as a cowboy, especially since you have "that look," so I was personally glad that you chose the Colt with the stag handle (my own favorite)! I had that very gun picked from the introductions. Love the stag grips, love case hardened frames, I too am not a nickel man, and the barrel length is perfect! Just a beautiful piece!!
That's one impressive collection of cowboy guns!! I wouldn't want to get rid of even one!! Bet it took decades to collect all these fine shootin irons!! I think that deer has been here before.
Another outstanding video Hickok45! It is amazing that your "pet deer" seemed uninterested in the noise of your shooting . You should put that in a disclaimer at the end No Animals Were Harmed in the making of this video. Keep the videos coming.
He makes a valid point about the slightly longer barrel making a big difference. I sold my 4.5" Ruger Blackhawk because I couldn't get the accuracy i wanted.
I wonder if there are any records left that would show who that cavalry Colt was issued to? It might be interesting to know more about the history of that gun and how it got from being an army issue in 1883 to Hickok45's collection in 2022.
Those records are called a “hand receipt”. The armorer maintains the “hand receipt”when the weapon is issued. Once the weapon is turned back into the armorer the “hand receipt” is given to the soldier filled out and dated as turned in. The armorer has the weapon, the soldier has the hand receipt proof he turned in the weapon. So unless the soldier kept that hand receipt as a keep sake is where it could be. Even today the U S Army doesn’t maintain a by name record of who was issued what and when. Since that weapon was in very good condition it may of not been issued much…
Just got back from shooting my Colt SAAs. Nice timing! I'm going to sit right down and clean those fine pistols up watching this awesome video. Close to 100 degrees here in White House TN. Fine looking table Sir!
Mine would be a Great Western that was only made for a couple of years in the fifties in California. There was a shortage of Colt single actions due to all the TV Westerns and Great Western built guns until other manufacturers caught up. It is a clone of the Colt but it is important to me because it was left to me by my uncle who was like a father to me. We shot it a bit when I was a teenager and it was the first big bore pistol I ever shot.
Did a Google search on Colt long colt 45 single action and those prices are astronomical for me at this present time now I do have a Ruger Visceral and I love it. That 45, I’ve used it for a quick draw and I really do enjoy it. It’s a nice firing Revolver. thank you and enjoyed the supper table.
Arms laws here in India are so strict that 99% of us never in our lives get the opportunity to hold a firearm. First we need to acquire a gun license from the government, which is almost impossible to get unless we have contacts with politicians or high-level government officials.....
I definitely agree with the "mid-range" barrel length. I think the 5 1/2" has just the right balance/range ratio. I love a good 7 1/2", but they do take a bit longer on the draw. ;)
Great video! Liked the the deers in the video!! It just shows that animals are "happy" about shooting, and don`t care, realy , as long it dosn`t harm them, and they know🙂Greetings from Norway!
That's a nice collection you have there. I'm jealous because I don't have even one. Mel Torme was also a lover and collector of Colt single actions, at one time he had over 100 in his collection.
The one you picked was in my top three as you were going through them, along with the Masterson, and the first year second gen, that was the second one in the middle row (probably my choice, with the one you picked second). Great video! I’m looking to pick up a single action, and probably getting a Vaquero. I just picked up a Henry 30-30 h009b. What a beauty.
This man is a Craftsman, I have a double action, nickel plated Lightning, in pieces in a box, pearl handles and everything. Tore it apart to replace a spring and I will be Darned if I can figure out how it goes back together, love the gun, though.
I leaned in toward the screen to get a better look at all those SAA pistols, and then realized I was drooling onto my laptop's keyboard. Had to stop the video for an extensive clean up, and then watched the rest . Thanks for posting.
I really like your videos. This one is an especially tough call. The one you chose is pretty sweet! I'd take an original Colt over a Ruger (I have several Ruger single actions and a Colt double action...but no New Frontiers... All good stuff!)
That is an absolutely beautiful collection. But you had 4 on the table that I would give a kidney for Lol. Your #1 pick was one of the four that I was salivating over. Great video friend!!!
I figured you'd be picking one with a stag/pearl grip and a barrel over 4 3/4 inch. Had to immerse myself though and bring out my few single actions too, they're such beautiful revolvers to look at.
I only have (1), a Ruger 4 5/8" New Model Blackhawk convertible .45-Colt/.45ACP. But it continues to be my favorite handgun of several, not only to shoot and reload for, but for its amazing range of applications and capabilities from low recoil cowboy action to .44-mag levels (and everything in between). The reliability, safety, simplicity, and nostalgic appeal no doubt adds to the SA popularity and longevity.
That is a great choice gun, as Blackhawks will shoot +p's. So you're not short changing yourself if you decided to go to .. say.... Alaska where bears are relevant.

love love love revolvers. definitely need to buy one in the future.
Great choice. I only have one, so it's easy for me! SAA in .38-40, built in 1897.
I remember finding your channel as a kid about 10 years ago, every coupls years i come back to your channel. Its cool to see youre still consistently posting
I aspire to set a table with revolvers like hickok45 some day
I couldn’t choose just one,they’re all beautiful guns.😃👍
I had that very gun picked from the introductions. Love the stag grips, love case hardened frames, I too am not a nickel man, and the barrel length is perfect! Just a beautiful piece!!
That's one impressive collection of cowboy guns!! I wouldn't want to get rid of even one!! Bet it took decades to collect all these fine shootin irons!! I think that deer has been here before.
Beautiful layout there. Single-action revolvers are my favorite handguns.
A dream table right there!
Another outstanding video Hickok45! It is amazing that your "pet deer" seemed uninterested in the noise of your shooting . You should put that in a disclaimer at the end No Animals Were Harmed in the making of this video. Keep the videos coming.
Beautiful revolvers! I hope to own a Colt single action someday. Thanks for showing us your magnificent collection of these fine firearms.
Since that weapon was in very good condition it may of not been issued much…
These revolvers are so beautiful that I almost cry. Thank You so much, "Hickok45" for this video.
Wow, what a great collection would be proud to own any of them!
Man what a beautiful collection
SO WHERE IS THE HERITAGE ROUGH RIDER????
I have one of those it’s actually my first gun
@@yeboiglitchtrap1420 great first gun
I’ll never get to own a colt (probably never get to shoot one) so I am a big fan of the Rough Rider. I have 2 so far.
Such a masterpiece. Thanks for the content pal, you really made my day a little better.
I absolutely agree with your choice. A 5.5 inch, blued 2nd generation in .45 Colt would be my choice, also.
Arms laws here in India are so strict that 99% of us never in our lives get the opportunity to hold a firearm. First we need to acquire a gun license from the government, which is almost impossible to get unless we have contacts with politicians or high-level government officials.....
That was my choice too...That 45 Colt. Loved the whole look but especially the grips. Love your videos by the way!
I definitely agree with the "mid-range" barrel length. I think the 5 1/2" has just the right balance/range ratio. I love a good 7 1/2", but they do take a bit longer on the draw. ;)
Enjoyed this one a lot.life is Good.
Great video! Liked the the deers in the video!! It just shows that animals are "happy" about shooting, and don`t care, realy , as long it dosn`t harm them, and they know🙂Greetings from Norway!
Great job! Loved the end with the deer! Hysterical
The patina on that 1902 colt is gorgeous
That's a nice collection you have there. I'm jealous because I don't have even one. Mel Torme was also a lover and collector of Colt single actions, at one time he had over 100 in his collection.
If I were you, I’d keep your dads. It’s beautiful and the sentimental value is priceless
It's things like this that really gets me goin
My first and only Colt SAA, purchased earlier this year, is a … 2nd Gen, 1969, 5 1/2” barrel, .45. It does not have stag grips - yet.
Sir, you deserve to live for ever to keep showing guns to new generation humans.
Great choice Hickok! I Really enjoyed this episode. I’d pick the long branch.
Ruger Blackhawk is probably my favorite
Eliminate: Not tell anyone coming for your guns you have that.
That’s a very nice looking Long branch, would love to have one.
