Hello from Russia Sommers family! When I saw Bert splitting wood I remembered the story my grandma told me. During WWII her father was deployed and she was in her teens and the oldest of 3 girls. The was no other source of heat besides woodstove in the house. So she had to split wood with an axe and one time she almost chopped off her big toe luckily her cousin was a nurse and was able to provide first aid, they didn't any medication so they used film that's between eggshell and an egg, they wrapped the toe with it and it healed with time leaving only a scar. My grandma passed away a few years at the age of 90. One of the many lessons she tought me is that even in the darkest times there is a place for ambition and desire to excel. During war time very poorly clothed and always hungry she wanted to be first in her class at school. Her mom won't let her do homework in the evening because kerosene for the lamps was very scarce ( they didn't get electricity until 1950's-1960's). So she would wake up extra early do her homework before school and be the first to stand in front of the blackboard to answer teacher's questions. How I wish my grandma was still here with us 😢

Hi happy peoples, I'm from Canterbury New Zealand. We do not have any real nasty animals here thank goodness. I loved seeing that Moose licking your windows last week, how amazing was that! Although i guess that isn't something you are delighted with, lol. It is spring time here, of lambs being born every day. We have a small flock of ewes of which many have lambed multiples, lots of twins, 2x triplets and 1 set of quads! We are feeding 3 of them by bottle, i am sure your kiddos would love to do this, lambs are super cute. Take care and keep warm up there. X

Hey, I'm 73 years old watching your family from Birmingham Alabama. We have some of everything you talked about. Lower Alabama is on the Gulf Coast and we get hurricanes. We are in Tornado Alley and we get tornadoes. We get hot temperatures in the summer and sometimes we get snow in the winter! We have roaches and snakes so we are a smorgasborg of Mother Nature. I love watching your family and I love your commitment to the Lord. You all make my day every time I see a video. Sending love!

Live in Illinois and my struggle would be the severe cold and heavy snow. I'm used to seeing temps of -10 degrees with the wind chill but would not be out in it unless it was necessary. Heavy snowfall for me would be about a foot of snow. I'm use to dealing with severe thunderstorms, high winds and hail and tornadoes. Great video as always. Bert, I have to take your side on the t-shirt color. Definitely salmon and not pink. Take care.

I live in Northern Minnesota, 120 miles from International Falls and the Canadian border. I wouldn't live anywhere else, LOVE IT HERE!!! It's not unusual to have -40 or -50 temps in January and February, but at the same time it's beautiful watching the snow fall from my living room windows while having hot chocolate and snuggling with my dogs! There's nothing better than that this side of heaven. I did live in Vegas for 13 years and both the heat and the traffic were unbearable!!

I love the fort that your kids made out of that cardboard box. It reminded me of when I was a kid and my parents bought a new refrigerator. We got to keep the box and play with it for about three days, until it was trash day and time to get rid of it. My sister, brother and I turned that box into a spaceship in our garage. It was awesome! I'm glad you let your kids use their imaginations and create things out of boxes.

The lowest here in our area of NC it seems the low in the winter is 25° while in the area of IL would be around 15° with some days being -10--25. The summers are very humid here for longer periods at a time. What I miss about IL for weather is the nice breeze that is constantly available. Here it is so still at times!! Hello from Woodstock Ontario, Canada. Living between some of the Great Lakes. We get about 193 cm of snow in average (76 inches). We don't get blizzards much, but we get ice storms and snow squalls often. Also our winter temperatures are not as extreme cold but the humidity makes the cold go right through you and that isn't talking about the wind. We are also in Canada's tornado Alley and yucky snakes. But no hurricanes or earthquakes.
Love the salmon t shirt. 😘.
Thanks for sharing your lives. God bless

Hi there. My eye just caught your message. My mother is 82 and also lives alone for 16 years now. I am so amazed what she all still does. I watch Helen Wyatt. She is 80 and such a blessed soul to watch. She talks and talks and I cannot wait to watch her you tube. You will love her. You must see what she makes and she is so adorable. Has so many followers because she is so genuine. I turned 60 in June this year and I had tea and cake listening to her on my birthday. We were in stage 4 lockdown but you know what it was still a lovely day. I have twin daughters. My father in law was an identical twin and died at 95 two years ago and my mother in law is 92 also a twin. I am amazed how she is staying so jolly with all her friends at the home. We have not seen her for very long but she always has a story to tell. She loves the royal family. I find it so amazing how she keeps up with the latest news about them. I do know her friend shares the Hello Magazine with her. 🤭Bless you dear. I will think of you and say a little prayer for you each night. God Bless from South Africa. ❣🌷🦋🙏 Sorry if I rambled on but I just felt like a nice chat with you. 💙🌈

HI Kerry, Am studying the map of England, and know where Gloucestershire is on the map., Have found my closest cousins there, as I knew I had English ancestry, as my Grandmother was from Bath, England. Don't know what county my cousins are in. Am currently living in Eastern Tennessee, wish I was some place in England. .. Though I daily watch "The Bald Explorer", The Quest for England, (then name of video). Richard Vobes videos his walks throughout Sussex, and maybe close by counties. Am doing my homework, as I hope and Pray I can move over there in the coming years. Wish I was there Now, but you are in lock-down now, Right?

Kerry, Thanks sooo much for your reply. Well, when I can actually visit, but would prefer to move there, don't know. In the mean time, must find ways to see the country side. Like I've mentioned, I've seen many videos of the "Bald Explorer ", UA-cam, where I can get an idea of what Sussex county looks like. One of my fascinations is viewing your English castles. There seems too many castles to count. When I can, I Google for English castles. It amazes me how people 800, 900 years ago, with crude tools could build such fascinating, large castles.

During the big snow-dumpers I usually had to negotiate the ice band between the coast with warmer temps and inland colder temps to get home from work, before remote connecting during bad 'weathah' was an option and I could stay home if the forecast was nasty. This pass summer we had numerous weeks of almost 100 degrees and a few bad bad tropical storms with high winds taking down big trees and no power , and we never get used to it. Winters you never no, its been mild but we do get bads where we've had so much snow we were shovel off the roofs of our homes. Love watching you guys.

I live in Northern Alberta, Canada...we live near the foot hills, lots of Bush and lots of prairies so wind can be crazy here...we’ve had a few tornado warnings but our province doesn’t get a ton of them. Our Winters are similar to yours by the sound of it...not looking forward to it being dark at 4:30 pm...we get lots of -30 ish winter days and usually a few in the -40’s (Celsius)...we sometimes get a wind with the cold temps which makes it bitterly cold, but thankfully we have a dry cold here...and snow that stays for the entire winter. Our first snow comes in Sept or Oct and the snow leaves in April...it usually snows once in May. We have all the large animals here too (moose, Elk, caribou, buffalo, deer, bears cougars etc. I hope winter holds off until the end of November, but that’s wishful thinking😂.

On the coastal side of the San Francisco Bay Area, with the exception of a few weeks, we usually have mild weather, in the 50s - 60s, every year. We also have fog, fog, fog, and more fog! However, this year the fog was a blessing when it blew in off the coast and lowered temperatures from the 80s and 90s to the 60s and blew all the fire smoke off the coast out to the east.

I’ve lived in Wisconsin all my life except for the years my husband was stationed elsewhere during his Army carrier. We definitely get some wicked whether year round with tornados and heatwaves of a 100 plus temps in the summer and blizzards and sub-zero temps in the winter. That being said - no matter. Where one loves it’s all about perspective and the outlook you take on your surroundings. We can either grumble and tolerate yucky weather until changes OR we can embrace the seasons. And enjoy them for what they are. My 1 big weather thing is I don’t think I could live in an area that didn’t have snow at Christmastime! That’s the kid coming back out in me FYI 😁. We were stationed for 3 years in Leaveanworth Kansas and on Christmas Day the first year it was 67 degrees( I snapped a time dated photo of the outdoor thermometer!) and we grilled out. To us native Midwesterners that was like being on another planet. Thanks so much for the upbeat vlog and blessings to you all💕🇺🇸

It's just what we know, grew up with, and thankfully have time to prepare for. Tornados scare me so much more. I would DEFINITELY struggle with snow if it was more than a day or two. Snow is BEAUTIFUL in pictures/videos, but I couldn't deal with it after 2 days, lol. And as far as hot temps...that's why we have a/c, baby! 68 degrees year round inside :)

All are far weaker than some of the US States, but we do get something from everywhere, I even joke that we have monsoons, apparently we do in some areas. I dislike the heat most of all, it starts getting to 75+ F and I'm looking at the AC. We were one of the first houses in our area that actually got AC since they were rare here also, but it's been getting hotter over the years. Where to start living here in Australia
Everyone knows about the snakes and spiders but there is so much more to fear over here.
Our summer temps can exceed 130f while our snowfields actually get a greater annual snowfall than the swiss alps.
Aus sits just 1600 miles north of Antarctica so we get all the crazy sealife, 20 foot sharks, whales, penguins and dolphins.
Aus has one million wild camels who are actually very destructive animals who decimate entire natural habitats.
One camel can drink 30 gallons in 15 minutes and then wander the desert for 6 months before drinking again.
Aus has around 400,000 wild horses called brumbys throughout the eastern half and hundreds of thousands of wild dogs.
Australia land mass is equal to 97% of the USA's lower 48 but with only 25 million population.
Thw state of Western Australia holds 2.7 million people and is more than triple the size of texas
Aus has the worlds longest national highway at 9000 miles long and worlds longest links golf course at 850 miles long
Australia has 6 species of stinging trees, the most well known is called the gympie gympie or by its common nickname the suicide tree.
Its a medium sized bush with big flat leaves that grow thousands of fuzzy hair like needles on each leaf, each needle carriers a venom similar to our vonomous spiders and a simple brush of one leaf can embed thousands of the toxic needle under the skin causing extreme agony lasting for months if not treated quickly.
Anyone stung would often choose to end it themselves if medical assistance was not available giving it the suicide plant nickname.

So I was the main caretaker. I’ve never had to split the wood but storage and stacking. As well as maintaining the fire. A year ago we decided to go to an electric heat. Huge mistake because the heat from it is not as toasty! But the trade off of flipping a switch kind of makes up for it.

Really enjoy your videos, learnt a lot. I've watched a lot of shows on Alaska but really like watching how a real family lives. Re the weather, I've always preferred winter im miserable if its too hot.
