Dear Murray Gold, the song you composed "This is Gallifrey, Our Childhood, Our Home" is the most breath taking piece I have ever heard. Bravo...even though you may never see this comment, bravo!
Why is this man not making film music??!! He's SO overqualified for television! I love his music for Doctor Who, it makes for all these uber emotional moments you would never expect in a show like that.
I agree he's immensely talented but imo his mastery of leitmotifs is much better suited for television. As he said at the beginning, movies and theater are one musical package, the end. Television allows him to take a theme from Season 1 and reinvigorate it 8 seasons later in a way that gives me chills. (Ex: the 9th Doctor's theme being turned into a sort of military march in Hell Bent).
The Shepherd's Boy (Breaking The Wall) is undeniably one of his greatest masterpieces, however the rest of the incidental music for 'Heaven Sent' I think is very generic. Take a listen to Beethoven's 7th Symphony and tell me you don't hear the the similarities. It works very effectively in the episode but it's not original which marks it down in my books. Especially when I know he's better than that as he has proven time and time again thathe can write original music.
Just reinforces my belief that Murray writes straight from the heart. I've always known this. The results speak for themselves. I think it was around Ep2 of DW that I started to realise that we had something really special going on here music-wise. I suspect it was Rose's Theme first.
since Rise of Skywalker is the last Star Wars movie John Williams is going to compose for. I can't imagine anyone better to continue his legacy than Murray Gold. His music is simply sublime.
YES!! Murray Gold is one of those really rare composers that really knows how to use every single part of an orchestra to create some stunningly beautiful medleys. I always thought Michael Giacchino’s score for Rogue One was a little toothless aside from ‘Your father would be proud’ and ‘Hope’, but MG’s work for Doctor Who has been consistently astounding. Give him the LSO and choir, a blank canvas, at let him have at it for Star Wars.
its a huge shame. The music of series 11 was just awful. So forgettable and just generic as hell. Doesn't help that Chibnalls writing is terrible too. Man i hope he just gets fired and Jodie Whitaker gets to perform to a writer who actually has some inspiration. She could be brilliant. The writing has let her down so far.
Tom Gallagher Could not agree with you more, people have been giving her so much flak when the problem is simply inconsistent, unfocused and unexciting writing. The dull music definitely doesn’t help either. She could be so brilliant.
I don’t think Chibnall is the problem. It’s well established that he can write really well. Think Broadchurch, Torchwood, even a Doctor Who before he was lead writer. The BBC is almost certainly restraining Chibnall from doing anything creative with it. I get the impression the same is with the new composer. I’ve heard a little bit of his other stuff, which is a lot better. I suspect he’s being limited by the BBC’s ‘vision’.
It was Segun Akinola and until now will leave at the Centenary Special Finale consider to replace by Tsuburaya Production’s veteran composer Toru Fuyuki who composed Ultraman music.
10:26 I have not related so hard to a music request! lol 10:36 So many times we get these requests with 0 context and 0 insight into what that person actually wants!
He's a great composer, but I miss some of the sparseness of the Classic Who music, but that may be far more due to the Producer's wishes than the Composer himself.

Haha, yeah, I always say that. He's too good for television, sometimes his scores are so good that they distract from the visuals.

you are undermining television as a medium by saying that
Film music is generic shit
The score to Heaven Sent is surely Murray's masterpiece
No, it's The Lone Dalek... lol. I know what you mean though... there are many masterpieces.
@@MrMarco33333 I think lone dalek is good, although there were so many good tracks from him though
The majestic tale IMO. Cause that music was in the scene when I fell in love with Doctor Who. Just makes me feel unstoppable like the Doctor

He makes so many different types of music. All of which I love!!
Murray Gold is Gold!!!!!
Murray Gold is amazing!! Wish I could compose music like him!!
When he started playing Rose's Theme, I felt that.
12:45 - I love that piece and it's almost guaranteed to make me cry EVERY TIME.
It was an awesome evening and a real pleasure to listen to Murray talk :)
So glad this has finally been made available online!

Thank you Murry Gold for everything.
I know! This guy could score an entire film on the toilet!
He’s back!!! So excited for Doctor who 2023!!
‘Doomsday’ makes me cry every time.
I think he's not doing film music cause the television companies that employ him don't want to let go of him...
Murray's compositions were very controversial in 2005. Bow every Doctor Who tan sings his praise!
What a grand video. I like this guy even more than I already did.
LUCKY! Would love to meet he and of course John Williams.
Day of the Moon, Final Days, Emperor's Wife, Up the Shard. Some brilliant work.
I’d love to hear some of those midi tracks

Future me, this is me from the past posting a timestamp for you as you go back through and proofread your Senior Thesis.
Agreed!
I came here because doctor who
And now his soul is gone from Doctor Who.
Everything ends.

@@TomGallagherSuperboyBeyond I thought there were some brilliant tracks and cues in series 11, and series 12 had a brilliant soundtrack.
not so...
Also, John Lunn has scored beautiful music for Downton Abbey. Have you seen the show? It's brilliant! I'm beginning to LOVE British TV :)
Tsuburaya’s Toru Fuyuki for Doctor Who next music this 2023 if Murray got commitments to different series.
I just want him to stick with Doctor Who ;)
Bad news :(
@@PraxusUK new composer is shit
@@orangetack1099, he's not shit but he's not Murray Gold
@@orangetack1099 nah he's awesome imo, his s12 soundtrack was top tier imo

Murray!
3:23 Hold On.... Is that the dude that replaced him on Doctor Who??

You need to write a lot more for a television series than for film.
Doomsday was his best song
Casanova love theme...

Is he on coke?
