One of the best how-to videos I've ever seen by the manufacturer of anything. One usually has to go to a third party tutorial to figure out how things work.
I have these on my gravel bike. Left hand shifter never gripped the handlebars right but I think it's cause the bars are used. They're alot of fun on a road bike especially since I'm used to mountainbike shifters. Just something really satisfying about pulling a lever to go faster xD
A great video, thank you! A question about the indexed right shifter: what is the purpose of loosening the lever so it returns to the original position? I inferred from that that each time you shift, the lever returns to the starting point but I don’t understand how that would work mechanically or how one would up shift…thanks again
Great thought. You are not loosening the lever so it moves all the way back to the small cog position. You loosen it just enough to make sure it rests in the next position's detent. Our bar end/thumb shifters have a little "over shift." When you shift to a larger cog, you are pulling the shifter paddle and derailleur slightly past its detent/resting position. This ensures that you go into the next larger cog. The spring tension of the derailleur then pulls the shifter slightly back to the detent position, aligned with the proper cog and held by the detent/click on the shifter. If torques is too tight on the lever, you can hold the shifter in the over shift position, and in-between gears.
I am looking for a deep drop narrow (38 -40) road bar that has ends wide enough for bar end shifters. I am running into handlebars with skinny 17 mm inside diameter ends that will not take barcons. As an old school retro loving guy, my preference is for silver unpainted aluminum bars but what is most important is to find a manufacturer and model handlebar still made that bar ends will fit into. Any recommendations on bars that will work with Microshift bar end shifters?
maybe it could sound a stupid question, but it is possible to run a pair if microshift bs-m10 on friction mode to shift a 2x9 speed groupset? now, I know that there are alredy 2x9 dedicated bar end shifters, but for "aesthetic" issues I would like to choose the " black ones"
Unfortunately, bar end shifters don't work on some down tube mounted frames. The cable groove might not be long enough. You can try it to see if it works on your frame.
Tough to diagnose on UA-cam, but I would first make sure you have a model that is friction transferable. We do make some bar end shifters that are not transferable. For more sophisticated service, I would submit a service claim on our website.
@@microSHIFTTECH thanks for the quick response! i managed to fix it by disconnecting the shifter cable from the rear derailleur and turning the dial really hard. it seems like it was stuck for some reason. i had been using it for a few months on indexed mode prior, but wanted to go into friction since i'm using a 7-speed cassette with an 8-speed shifter and it was giving me some issues with my top two gears.
The BS- A10 right hand 10 speed shifter is only index shifting so the last bit of the video about changing from index to friction shifting does not apply to that model of shifter. I believe.
Hi Thanks for the great video. question. My vintage bike has 3 x 7. hard to find 7 speed bar end shifter. So If I buy 8 speed one then would it be working with my 7 speed cassette? Thanks
Depends on what derailleur you have. The 8-speed model should work with most 7-speed rear derailleurs. You can always make sure you purchase the BS-T08, which can switch the shifting into the friction mode. With the friction mode, you can shift 7,8, and 9 speed derailleurs. In the video @8:20, it talks about how to switch from index to friction mode. Thanks!
I’ve got 8spd Campag bar end shifters and matching Mirage long arm rear mech with mirage triple front 28 tooth sprocket for long distance journeys fully loaded front rear panniers
You can put it on after. You can wrap the tape flush to the shifter. Let us know if you have more questions! You can contact us at service@microshift.com
hello, I have a problem with a 3-speed microshift control for front derailleur. Acting on the command changes only two ratios and not three. because? Thanks for help
@@microSHIFTTECH I had this problem today and figured out that it was because I had the black ring (printed with "Adjustment ---> +" etc.) turned to the extreme in the wrong direction before mounting the lever on the bar pod. It's possible the manual addresses this from the inside view (p. 6), but in any case my mistake is evidence that it isn't completely foolproof! Set this way, if you have the black ring turned to the extreme in the wrong direction before assembly, you will be able to mount the lever onto the bar pod, but you won't be able to pull the lever far enough. Hope this helps anyone else that watches this video and has the same problem initially.
There are probably going to be a lot of questions from 3x7 shifter clients as 7-speed parts disappear. I was trying to envision a bar end shifter on a flat bar and those with touring ambitions like to mount a lot of stuff on the bar. I was not aware bar-end shifters were not flat bar shifters. It makes sense but these are desperate times.
Yes. Get the 11 speed MTB index/friction or running 12 speed MTB on friction mode. Currently I’m running M5100 SGS 51T with 12 speed bar end shifter on friction, it works perfectly
Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. Is it possible to use the left shifter to change gears on the rear derailleur in a 1x drivetrain? How many gears I would be able to have since its a friction shifter?
If your shifter comes with friction mode, you can operate Campagnolo 12 speed with it. Unfortunately, we don't have any Campy 12 speed index models at the moment.

I'm unsure if I'll actually use bar end shifters yet, but this was a very clear and concise guide. Nice work!

Can I drill a carbonfiber handlebar to route the bar-end shifter-cable from inside the dropbars?

Nitto!
Will it work with shimano nexus 3 speed or 7 and 8 speed internal hub?
Same question!

It will work, but the shifter will not move very much per shift, so it's a little more finicky to get into the correct gear.
Great vid, but what about frame mounting? Can I remove the "bar end" portion, and replace my old downtube mounted shifters? Thanks!!
Unfortunately, bar end shifters don't work on some down tube mounted frames. The cable groove might not be long enough. You can try it to see if it works on your frame.
2x 11 speed bar end shifter is suitable with shimano 105/ultegra derauliers?
Wow is this compatible with a 3x10 deore? Im planing to put drops on my mtb 😊
Yes, we make one compatible with Deore 10 spd.
My torque wrenches all have warnings on them to NEVER use them in reverse ⚠️!
Got any ideas?

Hi! Will a 170cm hausing be enough from the bar end to the rear? I dont have cable stops on my frame its one hausing fron to rear.
Hi! 170cm is a little risky. We recommend a little longer, 210cm should be enough.
@@microSHIFTTECH thanks I will buy a longer housing when I pick up my wheel at the shop :)

You can put it on after. You can wrap the tape flush to the shifter. Let us know if you have more questions! You can contact us at service@microshift.com
After doing after described, my gear automatically shifts down again. It doesn't seem to hold the tension of the derailleur. 12 spd. Any idea?:)
If it's still slipping, it needs to be tightened more.

That’s not a good idea, as the shifter will protrude and be extremely vulnerable to being damaged. Flat bars use thumb shifters. 👍
