@@FernandoLopez-ph8is Funny enough I put some Cinelli Cork tape on, and the finishing tape they provided started coming undone shortly after, so, black electrical tape saved the day. 👋

This Calvin is a master craftsman par excellence. This isn't a 'walk-through', it's a masterclass. Park Tools, be proud of this guy, I hope you pay him well, he must sell so many tools for you !!
I have to admit that Park Tools is now my go-to source for anything bicycle related. If people like this will help me, there’s no point in shopping anywhere else.
Every time I wrap bars and it's not often I watch this video as a refresh. Best one on UA-cam. And the reason I don't have to wrap my bars often is because I watch this video so my wrap job turns out pretty nice. I really don't understand the dislikes.
Lucky you, UA-cam dropped dislikes. On the other hand, 51K have liked this video. Calvin is not your average UA-cam "maker", but it should be obvious you can't please all the people all the time. I have barplug and my wrap came undone at the end following this process, but I'm not going to rage dislike.
@@AdamOmidpanahOne of the saddest truths of life, even if you have a great teacher, and you follow the instructions perfectly, sometimes it just doesn't work. Props to you for not lashing out and blaming the video. The good news is, on this case (as I'm sure you already have) you can unspool the bar tape, rewind the video to 0:00, and try again. Even if you did it correctly the first time, can't hurt to give it another shot. This time, who knows. Maybe it lasts years.
You know, I've been wrapping bar tape since Lemond and Fignon were hammering each other up Alpine cols so I thought I pretty well knew "everything there is to know" about this fairly mundane maintenance procedure. I must say this was the masterclass of bar - wrapping and the insider's tip of "tack welding" the finishing tape just about bowled me over. Superb.
Without exaggeration, this is the best instructional video I've seen on YT. The explanations are very precise and the video is framed perfectly. I've wrapped handlebars maybe a dozen times, but this time I know I'll do it right! Many thanks, and congratulations on a terrific video!
These park tool maintenance videos are the best on UA-cam, I used the videos to set up my cables for the first time and the amount of detail this guy goes into is insane compared to any of the other videos on here. He also explains it well to someone who has very little knowledge of bike maintenance. Thanks
This video is pure gold. I've never done this before, and it turned out great. Just setup the repair stand in my living room, started this up, and paused it at each step as I did it. No other video here on this topic helped me as much as this one.

In the past few years I wrapped about ten different bicycles and every single time I'm watching this video so it's about time I said thank you! Thanks for the calm and clear instructions, saved me a lot of stress!
Well done, sir. I've seen bars wrapped with the reverse direction technique, but I never knew there was a reason. Another reason not to use the figure 8 technique is that tape manufacturers aren't always particularly generous and you can get to the end and find your tape is too short.
This is the best professional instructor training that explains in detail how to wrap handlebars the correct way. The pinstripe finishing technique is a bonus feature. Thank You!
Thank so much Calvin! I typically don't try to do stuff like this on my own and ask the local cycle shop to do it. When I bought the tape the owner of the shop encouraged me to give it a try. I found this video on UA-cam and it was a snap. Calvin walks through the process well. His delivery cadence is excellent, very easy to follow along. Great work Calvin! God bless and peace.
I was pretty much affraid of non-adhesive tapes before buying it. With this video I'm now confident enough of handling it well. Also, the direction of wrapping the tape is something I have come across quite new to me & realized it is the real key in this technique. Thanks for making this video. I conclude that the direction of wrapping is the real key which you taught in this video. Thanks much.
I had to change my handlebars and had to learn how to tape them. I bought a rather thick tape for extra comfort on my gravel bike and the detailed instructions were absolutely perfect. Thank you!
Wow. I can't believe this video is 16 mins long and it had me glued to it as if I was watching the opening scene of Top Gun on repeat as a kid! Fantastic video. Thank you so much! I now have the confidence to try this on my own and know that I'm doing a good job! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
1st time at it, with Cinelli tape. I used Method 3 and got a clean wrap. It did take me a couple tries not to run out of tape. Tension was key. It did seem easier to go with the adhesive protect strip removed from the start. Time will tell. Thanks Calvin.
Great video. Wrapped like a pro on my first try. The derailure adjustment videos (front and rear) are excellent as well. No nonsense, expert teaching by Calvin. Way to go Park Tools.
Far and away the best handlebar wrap tutorial on youtube. I refer to it every time before I wrap my bars and have had perfect results from my very first attempt on.

Some great tips and method 3 is a revelation. I've just replaced my tape following this video and the bars have never looked so good. Thanks to Calvin and Park Tools.
Trying to wrap my bars perfectly symmetrically around the levers felt like solving a Rubik’s cube before this video! The way the explains every step perfectly, including all of the details at the end is so so helpful. I’m finally happy with my wrap skills.

My go to for refresh on bike maintenance tasks so I do it the smart way and save time. You're a legend Calvin! Thanks for taking the time to make this 😊
A couple of clever tricks - coloring the end of a white tape, and pin-striping. Nice job. For years I've put up with crappy wrap jobs - my own AND others. The key takeaway on this is to wrap the upper bar in the opposite direction from the lower. Since I ride on the top, or hoods, almost all the time, my wraps just don't last. Thanks!

Thanks for this great tutorial. I just figured out why my bar tape is coming of so quickly. Good tip on the direction depending on which way your hand torques the tape. Love it! Thanks. Keep up the great content! I tell people to check out your channel all the time for how to videos!
Excellent video. The only trick I would add is to use some of that strapping tape where the finishing tape goes as the first layer. Just two times around. It's very thin, but it holds tension much better and does not slowly unravel like black tape (or mfg provided finishing tape) does when it is put under tension. Then just cover the tight strapping tape with black tape but use zero tension. That way it does not slowly creep and expose the adhesive that all of us hate. Makes the tack welding spoke trick unnecessary, cool as it is.
Excellent instructions! The new tape I put on both my drop and aero bars looks pretty good! I'll add one thing. I used a bit of this stuff called Tommy Tape for finishing. It's a self fusing adhesive strip that doesn't get gummy over time.

Great video! When I am giving tips to people on wrapping their bars I try to tell them to wrap "away from the bike" . I've found that distinguishing clockwise and counter clockwise can make people overthink the direction.
That doesn't mean anything though. When you wrap clockwise for the right side, you wrap away from the bike on top but in the direction of the bike half a turn later.
That ignores the recommended direction difference between the drop ends and the top. Also, to me, 'away from the bike' is vague, while the wording used in this video is not prone to misunderstanding.
