John wrote some great songs during his life most of which have magical chord shapes. His voice was powerful, although he strained on the extreme highs….
Saw one of the last performances of the reunited original group in Pittsburgh on their 30th anniversary tour. John Wetton died a couple of years later.
Saw Asia on their debut tour. Waited out to meet them all at an album signing the day of the show. Still have the lp, signed by all 4, never played. Was a fabulous show

Wasn't there an alternative MTV video to this? A bunch of like... jungle explorers all getting killed in some temple? Or do I have the wrong band/song? Used to scare the crap out of me...
We can thank the David Geffen Company for that. In the labels wisdom, it was decided that the album version of the song was too long for radio, so they took out their editing knife and got to work. Also, the singles mix is slightly different than the lp version, with guitars lines reduced, (don't wanna scare radio listeners, back in 1981 with loud heavy guitars!) keyboard line enhanced and nearly 2 mins hacked off, all for trying to fit it In with time-obsessed radio programmers of the day. even worse, they did this reduction job without informing the band. ASIA was out on tour at the time and found out by hearing this "version" on a radio station. They had known it was to be released as a single as they filmed footage for an upcoming video and naturally assumed it would be the original version they had recorded.
One of the finest songs, not just of the 80's, but of all time. It was an outrage that this gem did not chart! :-( R.I.P., John.
Who cares if the track didn’t “chart”. The album sold millions. I never cared about any of the singles when listening to the entire album.
@@Fakename70 True.
SOLE SURVIVOR was their best by far....and Harry called that spot-on!
Lack of air play by BBC probably
stellar performance
The entire album is pure gold.
Yes!, Best Album 1982 according Billboard
John Wetton's voice might could be emulated. But never duplicated. Great Band and Love Steve Howe!!
Running this with 2 Sansui’s at rated power. Absolutely amazing
This is the best Asia song in my humble opinion. Nothing else comes close.
Fantastic vocals by John Wetton, …..way, way above the over touted Mercury and others. You’re are the one that is truly missed.
You’re rating Wetton over Fred as a vocalist, are you?
Arguably!
LMAO

ジョンウェットンの声を生で聴きたかった。
Even with the edits it's still a good song. Now I have to listen to the real version.
Giants of the FM airwaves! Great Band 👍
SOLE SURVIVOR. What a great song. They looked too young. Fortunately I Saw ASIA in concert Bogotá 2010. ☺🙌

The chorus has been stuck in my head intermittently since the album came out....Good😁...Bad🤪....I STILL Don't Know🤷♂️🥴
When this album came out, it was on my record player almost a year. Also liked the second and third album but not as much as the first.
Ásia ❤🤘
Man, Steve just blows me away on this as Wetton's also great! Wonder what the back story is on this?

And who was the genius that butchered the song?

I’m genuinely perplexed why anyone who had/has the entire album would even care about the single version.
Horrible! Cuts out important parts of the song. Thanks for nothing.
This song is over-bloated hot air, but it's OK......just ok.
British Band of course!!! Go, go, go, British, GO!!! Greetings from PERU and the Falklands are BRITISH!! British!! British!!!!
