    I am a doctor in real life. If I do something neglectful that kills one of my patients, I would be in major trouble, my license would be stripped, and there goes my career and I will face hefty monetary/criminal penalties. The same should be applied to a judge. She had all the facts, she knew the case well. Her actions in turn caused the death of that poor officer. RIP.

    Just so you folks don't feel like this is rare, we just had the very same thing happen here in Ontario, with a provincial police officer. He was shot and killed by a person that was out on bail for assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon. This coddling of the criminal has got to stop.

      My guess is that she had the latitude to hold them or to let him go and like you said she should have held him.
      The problem is that there's just too much leniency in our country far too much.
      All of those Muslim countries seem to have it right when it comes to Crime and Punishment.
      I still can't understand how somebody can murder someone and be sent to time out, and while in timeout he gets all of his meals he gets free dental he gets free health care he gets to talk to family and a whole bunch of other freedoms that have absolutely nothing to do with punishment

      @@tawaize The story I read was, that it was a simple traffic stop and the officer was shot as he approached the car. Civilians stopped to help the officer and the chase and the shoot out came much later.

    This hit home fir me ,why I reside in an assisted living facility,a wonderful young man was the first person I git to know here 6 years ago ,he is now at The Ben Clark training Center ,and is going to be doing the very same job this officer was doing the day his life was so cruelly taken ,his mother works here ,I was taking to her today ,she lives mere miles from my facility,yesterday she had a hard time getting home because the streets were cordoned off,her son this incredible young man worked at The Robert Presley dentition center where this deputy also worked before becoming sworn,he texted me this morning to say how sad he was.
    The hospital where this officers body was taken then transported is also a hospital i worked at as an R N many years ago, I have two friends that work the E R there niw.
    The hospital is half a block from where i live ,as is the no morgue .
    No ,this man should NEVER been out on the streets ,and and an officer is dead ,a family and his brothers in arms are mourning for him ,I have several friends on the Riverside P D ,we are all saddened because once agent ,this could have been prevented l

    The legal system needs a complete overhaul after this situation. Why the hell was a career criminal let off multiple times? California is notorious but this is probably the worst, along with that one who killed 2 officers a few months back and the aforementioned 2016 murder. Victims get nothing, criminals treated like royalty.

      It's common sense that if everyone with three felonies in California was sentenced to life in prison that California would have no free population and no ability to jail everyone. It takes the average family 3 felonies per month just to cover the cost of living

    This is an atrocity when judges don’t do their jobs, yet expect law enforcement to do theirs, even at the risk of their very lives! This judge not only released this three time violent criminal on bond, but even lessened his sentencing! This is poor judgement, imbalanced justice, and a grave endangering to the community when judges go soft on violent repeat offenders! This was preventable had the justice system not failed in its responsibility!
