Many players feel the ranked matchmaking was secretly changed in order to prioritze Tekken Prowess when matching up players against one another. In today's video we talk a bit about it and I express my own thoughts on the system and what it's doing to the game right now.

Yup, this all makes sense now. Matchmaking is longer and I also legit played the same person 4-5 times a couple of nights ago, and I keep running into the same players more often now.
To be honest I feel like alot of players that don't finish their road to tekken emperor and play like 5 characters in ranked ruined the game and this is the developers way of trying to fix it but broke it.
@@horde616 I play allot of characters because I get bored of playing one people that like playing allot of characters should take no blame for this bs if you want to play one or two characters all day good for you but I play a different character everyday that’s fun for me.
@@chantethompson2997Yeah agreed. I have over 170+ hours with ONLY Steve buts that’s just because I’m trying to Master him and get to Tekken God before I move onto someone else. I take 2-3 day breaks to prevent boredom but you shouldn’t be punished in matchmaking because you want to try someone new.
@chantethompson2997 you're not the problem the problem is they need to make the rank stick to you not individual characters by all means if you are a tekken god the no matter what character you play on ranked shouldn't affect what your rank is you should still be fighting tekken god level players like you said it's a choice to play another character. If I'm gaining one character like Kazuya I shouldn't have to deal with pros and smurfs in orange and red ranks. Or in any rank for that matter I should be playing people at my actual level. I'm a garyu in my first tekken getting paired with bushin players tf you mean. And what's worse is if they're bushin but decide to pick up raven they start at a lower level??? For what to beat up on people is what I'm guessing nah Namco need to keep making adjustments to ranked cause this is not it.
Something else that I noticed is that now nobody wants to rematch unless they win the first game and more often than not if they lose the second game they still quit, as soon as they lose they dont want to play you anymore, and I play Leroy too its not like im playing a top tier and being annoying.
Yea the matchmaking has gotten much longer for me, im in the reds and its never been this bad
Same on both ends. Biggest group of players and its taking me 5 minutes to find a match. Something aint right

Que times are not that much longer for me (shinryu), i still can’t even practice a combo more than 2 times before i get a match, but right now i get matched up with people who neg diff destroy my ass way too often
Pc players not dumb down their settings create these unnecessary reds while their internet is fine 😅

same for me; picked up hwoarang for the first time this morning (I have a prowess of 170k), and I was on a low-ass rank with him; fought blue ranks the whole way through the day; it kinda sucks cuz I was trying to learn the character (missing combos, etc.), but the matches were mostly with people who were playing their mains

Yea i try to play with friends, play ghosts, or just go to quick match (but I think they messed up that too). Hope that they fix it. Im around 140k with Jun and I want to try other characters.
I feel you bro can’t even lab new characters Im blue rank and tried doing the same with hwo but running into the same 3 blue/gold ranks🤦🏽♂️

it sucks so much man. i was excited to learn a bunch of characters after i get to blue with one. now i’m facing killers on my characters that i barely know how to play. i hope they revert it back, then find a better matchmaking system. the previous one wasn’t perfect, but it was more serviceable than the current
I played the same guy twice for a full set, back to back. Sometimes i run into players i played 4 sets ago, or sometimes i get matched with people who 1 and done me the next match
I no joke matched up with the same guy 3 times in a row yesterday.
Yesterday I matched up with a Victor, then a shaheen the next fight, then the same Victor again, and then the same Shaheen again
I was wondering why my queue time has been so long lately. Turns out a lot people are experiencing the same thing as well. 5-10 minute queue time for the same 3-5 people. I'm 186k prowess with a fujin Bryan.
I have definitely noticed it, it’s true. It makes matchmaking imbalanced in the higher ranks. I specifically remember when I was going from purple to blue it got hard to get into blue because I was playing a lot of people that had over 200,000 prowess, basically I would beat anybody I played in purple if it wasn’t their secondary character and they were much higher prowess. I would even crush Fujian people with no problem but then I would run into somebody that’s main was way higher and would push me out of down

@@jackmate512 it’s been about a month since I went from purple to blue. I think I was around 150,000 at the time. But I definitely remember being annoyed seeing people with way higher prowess being matched with me.
What has Fujian people done to you...
@@ZenStrive52 lol nothing in all truthfulness I have a Lotta respect for anybody that makes it Fujian, that’s a major accomplishment being in roughly the top 1% of players.
I think this is an another case of making a wide change to address a small issue. Remember when eddy initially came out and he was at beginner regardless of every other character rank? I think this is the solution they came up with so higher ranked players stopped stomping on lower ranks when grinding Eddy. Which once again has unforeseen problems.

Hell, it's a problem that solves itself by those players...ranking up. It makes the ranks even more meaningless than they already were.
This is alarming if true, since it creates different subgroups within the same rank. This obviously makes it harder to rank up for some. I'm even against prowess only having a minor effect. It should be 0, because this is a rank based system. It doesn't matter if this gives more even matchups. If all Garyu's are not treated as equals by the matchmaker, the ranking system is by definition biased and unfair, because the point system do treat them as equals.
Yes rank is not ranked anymore if everybody is in a different ladder
im sorry i dont quite understand your point, how would it make it harder to rank up against ppl who are the same tekken prowess (mmr) as you instead of frequently matching against ppl with way higher power on an alt char? (which is often my case, im playing more blues on alt chars than ppl on my rank, red, which sucks bec i just lose and get the same punishment as playing against someone of my skill level) tho i get the problem if u lvl up many different chars and u inflate ur prowess but tbf it shouldnt increase at all for playing other chars to the same highest rank as your main since well u didnt reach a new peak so no need to increase prowess
@@h4b3e1n9b0RnEasier for mains. Harder for subs. What is so hard to understand? You get separate divisions within the same rank. Rank is meaningless if some players get easier opponents at the exact same rank.
@@pite9 but thats how it was before the change, ppl on alt char got easier opp bec their true elo is higher, now they'll get matched up on alt chars with their true elo and ppl on their mains wont get matched up against ppl who are Tekken king but playing on their 5th char
@@h4b3e1n9b0Rnit wasn’t. People who are on an alt character 9/10 are not as good with said character then they are with their main character. It’s unfair for someone to have to fight a person multiple ranks above them and still get treated as if the match was even when they lose. Rank should be treated equal per character because that’s what ranked is for. With this mm, ranks are broken up and suddenly I’m playing people at tekken king when I’m a Fujin with 4 characters at purple ranks.
EDIT, either they revert the change or they make all my characters the same high rank.
I noticed yesterday, I started to learn reina 3 days ago (i am tekken king) and every match I have got is with a tekken king or god, I tough "there's no way the only people playing in purple ranks are tekken kings players" 😂
Came back from a week long vacation and suddenly, queue times are longer and I keep matching with people 3+ ranks on my main. Looks like playing different characters to learn how to play against them worked against me in the end.
Tekken prowess i thought was calculated the same way your ghost is trained the more the game realises you correctly punish or your combo damage is at consistently high average.. same goes for hitting clean hits and even successful rage arts.. tekken prowess I though was your game knowledge in a nutshell so I never thought it was a problem 🤔🤷🏽♂️
Tekken Prowess itself isn't an issue, but it is not a reliable calculation of how good someone actually is at the game. Think of it as your power level, but as any Dragon Ball fan will tell you: Power levels are bullshit lol.
this is also for quickmatch which is weird. after getting 2 other characters to mid to high end purple I've landed on Zafina, and considering she is very bad I decided to only play casually in quickmatches with her mostly for my mental. im glad i did now because i only fight people 2-4 ranks higher than me and their prowess is usually equal or higher. its now super frustrating fighting tekken kings every other match losing 9 times out of 10
I've noticed this too, but it was also like this in Tekken 7 for me too. I'm from Alaska which means the most stable connections are all on the west coast, this drastically limits the pool of players I could be matched with vs. someone living stateside. I'm currently raijin, boardering Kishin. I'm being matched with much lower ranks considering I do not use no-restriction when trying to find a match. I get next to nothing from these players, and it's become increasingly difficult to find matches that are my rank or higher. I've gravitated towards the lounge for finding matches now.
Its crazy I just want to quickly rank my alt to where it belongs becuase bamco decided my alt should be 7 ranks below. Now i have to struggle to find games. I am not against fighting people of my skill level if it did not affect how often i get matches. The fighting community is too small for this kind of change. I just want to play the game.
These changes that they’re doing is the reason Tekken player count will decrease significantly and will continue to do so.

no, it's there, i noticed it too and been keeping it in my head but i am glad there is a video talking about this let alone i am not the only one.
happened with me & my friend for sure. he was grinding for his 2nd blue rank & he was pretty much only fighting blue rank players. while i was grinding for my 1st blue rank & primarily only fought purple rank and maybe some tenryu ranks.
I just made it to Bushin rank and I just noticed the rank que times being longer than it used to be. My Tekken Prowess is 203k but I only play my main in ranked. Before I was getting matches so frequently like every 10-20 seconds I would get a match notification but now regardless of the day I be waiting 30 seconds or longer and many times it be the same players.
I just got out of red ranks (thank you bro your tips are goated fr) and yeah I noticed insanely long matchmake times
I noticed personally that when I tried a side character I'd fight characters of similar rank as me or the same rank but also with similar prowess. So I wasn't fighting ppls mains
I'm glad for this change actually. multiple times this week when i've been playing ranked I've been fighting my way out of orange ranks (this is my first tekken) i've been facing others in orange ranks with around 150k+ tekken prowess. So after i get stomped, sure enough i check their profile and their main character is in purple ranks mainly being flame or battle ruler. This would happen every single game for at least an hour or two with very few games being against someone of my actual tekken prowess which is around 70-80k. Also, just a few days ago in the span of an hour i matched up with 2 different people in orange ranks who were on 15+ win streaks. One of them i matched up with again to see they're almost at 20 wins. I dm'ed one of them and they sent me screen shots of them having 4 different characters in purple ranks. I can definitely say it's not fun fighting fake orange ranks gatekeeping real orange ranks. Since the matchmaking change I've made it out of orange ranks and I'm now Garyu with just over 100k tekken prowess.
I'm happy for the change too. I'm actually matching up with people clearly at the same Tekken-level as me. Their prowess shows that. Like or not, if someone is able to rank several characters up tp blue ranks and getting a high Prowess, they have no business fighting other yellow and orange ranks and ruining their experience. Blue rankers clearly know more Tekken and have more knowledge. I finally became Mighty Ruler and I think I can make it to Flame Ruler as well if it stays like this. This is a great change!
I'm working on getting every character to Mighty Ruler at least. So right now I have a Raijin, 6 Fujins and like 8 Mighty Rulers. The things is, if you choose to be a generalist you sacrifice depth of knowledge for breadth of knowledge. Yes, I will eventually have a good idea of what all the characters can do, how to counter strings, frame data and so on. But a character specialist on any of the characters I've played around with will have so much better situational knowledge, be able to apply their gameplan better, all kinds of stuff. Not to mention, my fundamentals aren't nearly up to the standard of higher ranked players. Movement especially.
Right now I'm at 220k and it's only going to get higher until I'm hopelessly outclassed. This is not the way to matchmake. I am already noticing a dropoff in the number of opponents I face. Still, this is how I want to play the game so guess I'm just going to live with it. After all the end goal is to get as good as possible so I'll just keep grinding.
It has definitely felt harder this week since the patch.
Have been maining Leo (at Eliminator) but did pick up Lili last week. Was at 100k prowess initially and got Lili to Eliminator too.
Sometimes prepatch, you'd run into 200k prowess players with similar rank but that seems to be less common now since the patch but i had been playing so many 120k players usually in the red ranks.
Plus side, have gotten Leo and Lili to Garyu in the last couple of nights.
Definitely was trying to learn a new character the other day and I was getting matches with all people at or near the tekken prowess

I was in a constant match with 3 people fighting fighting them over and over again due to this prowess mess. I hope they go back to the original cuz even the wait time is very long compared to a couple of weeks ago
No i have definitely noticed it, i have been playing ranked pretty sparingly so i know I'm not at the rank I'll be stuck at but i play 3 chars right now and when i work on my side characters it's like actually challenging. The one thing i notice the most is when i coach my friend who is new to tekken, he plays around raijin and kishin but the people he's fighting are much easier or lower prowess matches than mine. Same with one of my rivals who is fighting mighty rulers with 250 prowess
I noticed this today. I've ranked several characters, and my prowess is pretty inflated. Starting on my 5th character, I am facing red ranks that have over 200k prowess almost exclusively, and that could be a Tekken God on their first alt or someone that's played different characters like me instead of someone that's measured by the rank they're at. I'm not gonna stand a chance against TGs on my 5th character lol
I will say though that I haven't had any trouble with queue times
Also, on my main now, I only ever fight players that are higher rank than me. 1-3 ranks higher... rarely the same rank and almost never lower ranks.
Quick match is also having issues too. Quick match queue is taking a lot longer than usual, and when I do find a match, I find myself going up against Fujins, and I'm just a Vanquisher. Haven't ran into anything higher than that, though.
Also, rematches are becoming much more prevalent.
Worst of all is that the Ranked restriction level toggle option went out the window !
Plus, the way points are awarded now don’t make sense in this new system in which you lose more points when losing to a lower ranked player, which now happens a lot more
From New Zealand. I was able to play rank anytime during the day before. Now I can go through full episodes of anime before I pair up with anyone in rank. Also I end up playing the same people x4 in row, even if we change characters. I just thought less people were playing now.
Ok I noticed that change yesterday after i reached Tekkenking with a prowess of 235.000.
Then i decided to pick my 3rd main to chill out a bit in ranked which is at mightyruler.
I only faced red-purpel with prowess of
220.000 - 260.000 it wasnt relaxing at all.
I think this change also protect ppl who are the first time in purpel,blue etc.
otherwise they get smoked pretty bad.
Its like new game plus getting only high level player when you start witj a new character. its much harder right now but i like the change. the only thing prowess lacks is that it rises when you play multipe characters.😮
Prior to this change when I was still in Orange ranks with my main I'd quite a few times per session face players on alt characters that are in Purple or Blue ranks with their mains so they'd stomp me. I personally feel I shouldn't be fighting players like that when I was that rank however it does sound like they've overtuned this new matchmaking. Causing longer queue times is not a good way of going about preventing smurfing on lower skilled players.
I didn't notice this but after playing one game on another character and watching a friend play off characters too their tekken prowess has always been near identical
Thought it was just me! Been taking hella long to find matches, I’m also still trying to find a main. My prowess is like 97k I fought a damn Fujin player today! I did manage to get a perfect in that match, however it was with victor lol 😂
It makes a bit more sense to do it this way, because I was fighting genuine new players rather than alt characters when getting Shaheen up to Vanquisher after getting Lars up to garyu.
The problem now though is that not only can the matchmaking take *way* longer, there’s an even bigger chance of matching with even more skilled people due to Tekken Prowess literally being a wack calculation (When in orange on Lars, I actively had matches that I’d win and my prowess would go down, and lose matches and it go up.).
Also, literally no communication about this change. Just do better Bamco.
i do agree that there is wierd things going on with the matchmaking sometimes. i dont know how people are playing this game mainly because i think i might be not the best example for this. i main devil jin (hes in fujin) but i barley play ranked because of the toxicity there and rather play quick matches or lobby games with my friends (most of them are tekken kings and higher level players) and i can hang with most of them but like i said i dont really ever play ranked anymore because i dont care about my rank and rather play in non toxic envoirments to learn and have fun (isnt it about that in the end?)
i have a tekiken prowess of around 190k because i only played dj , jin and a bit of reina and people sometimes just hatemail you and or just one and done (even if i loose they just dont rematch) so i dont see the point of even playing ranked tbf. but this seems like a big problem for people like you mentioned whos looking for their main and play a bunch of ranked and end up in a situation like this where youre stuck and you feel like you cant improve or learn because people are just facerolling you and it doesnt help that ranked is 2 out of 3 in those situations.
also all the plugging and disconnecting just drained all the fun out of me in ranked tbh
I just started playing a new character so I thought that's why my wait times were longer. It definitely feels worse than it once did with the wait times and the rematches

This exact thing happened to me, My current highest rank is Fujin, but when I was battle ruler on my main Kazuya and got Jin and Devil JIn to Flame Ruler, my prowess got up to 200K which is more inline of a Kishin than a Fujin or Battle Ruler. A Fujin should be about 175K prowess and Battle ruler is like 150K. I'm getting matched with people consistently over 200K prowess even when I have the + or - 2 only.

I think your right on was flame ruler on Jun and I kept getting matched against fujins
Yeah, I just picked up my tekken 7 secondary Leo, and I got paired against the same Kishin ranked Reina player three or four times yesterday, she quit because I happen to know the Reina matchup really well I have a lot of legacy skill with Leo but her prowess was higher than mine
My highest rank is Battle Ruler, but i have 12 other characters on flame and mighty ruler. It takes sooooooooo long before i get a match. This explained a lot. I don’t understand why they change something that wasn’t broken…
I've been bringing a bunch of characters up to Garyu/Shinryu since launch and noticed a huge jump in the skill of my opponents recently. Great to learn but feels gross to get demoted by much higher-ranked players, thinking about sticking to quick match since the experience is basically the same
It’s not the best switch, but as a current mighty ruler, its tough playing a higher rank on their second character because they’re just straight up better than me at Tekken lol

Makes sense why i was fighting a god of desturction and and tekken god supreme while i was at kishin that shit was wild to me and it only happened once for each of the ranks i listed im like how is that possible lol
I thought somn was off when my queue times went up then i started seeing ranks outside of my preference (instead of +/-3 it was more like 4-5) only number similar were tekken prowess. plus ive seen players way below my rank clearly still learning their characters but have my tekken prowess

I main Jun kazama as a Vanquisher rank but I like to always play another characters like Steve, Paul and nina. And thats True! My queue times with side chars have gone crazy and with matched with people the same rank of that char or the same rank and above of my main.
Felt that, too. I AM mostly playing quick matches and waiting until the big patch to hop back in ranked, and while the longer queues do suck... I have been waiting for that smoke for so long. I've grinded rank so I could face better players, so I could get better. I'd plateaud hard at Raijin with my secondary Bryan before the matchmaking changed. Then I hopped back in and got stomped some ten times in a row against the gold ranks and then something just clicked and I'm now a lot more comfortable with the character.
TL;DR: This change is kinda good for me cause I really just wanna fight better players and it doesn't matter if I get stomped as long as I learn. That said, waiting time sucks and if the queues and repeated matches are bad for everyone, then yeah, this is bad bad. Maybe that could be a setting that you could manually change in the next patch? Who knows?
Just started to learn nina after getting 150k with my reina just in purple and a couple others in red and I have been so tilted now playing a side character against other players who are just better it's cool to get more experience and possibly better faster just tough learning a new character deffinetly have noticed the past few days only playing other 150k players

I’m facing some of the hardest Jin, Hwo, Reina, Alisa and Feng players that I’ve ever faced. Good to know it’s a quiet change, but man ranked is absolutely rough!

I've noticed this when I thought a purple rank Paul player. I'm Tekken Emperor with Lars... that's a ridiculous rank difference.
I’m Garyu and main Jun. Ranking up rn is difficult bc I get someone with a prowess about 50,000 more points ahead every match. It’s usually spammy hworangs, drag or azucenas that keep me from advancing
im tekken emperor on main and have like 5 chars at bushin/tekken king giving me like 280k prowess and its rough to find games if I wanna play any character below bushin at this point. I was already mostly playing 200k+ players already when climbing in blue and all this does is make matchmaking take forever and if I do find a match its the same guy ive already played 5 times. i also have more points than some tekken god players somehow and im completely trash at the game so thanks harada. this happened in t7 aswell with prowess but prowess was mostly a cosmetic thing I never got past kishin in that game but had 300k points from getting random characters to fujin and would fight people at TGP that had less points than me

@@Dead-Eyed-Man its mostly perspective while i might be able to free up 99% of all tekken players the 1% of the top 1% are just different at the game and I cant really explain it if you ever play someone in the 350k+ prowess range they are pretty much untouchable in neutral (what little neutral there is)
Bro this is my first tekken and the ranked is horrible the times is OD long sometime I don’t even get a match and I keep getting people that just plugs when they finna lose
IMO the Eddy situation highlighted something that Namco decided to address. One thing I personally didn't like was getting smoked by players playing their alts vs my main, to the point where I was asking myself why am I getting matched with people that have significantly higher Tekken Prowess. The problem with matching on Prowess is the lack of players with really high prowess but IMO prowess does indicate an overall experience level with the game.
IMO the change hurts the players in the higher levels (Blue and above) but helps the players of lower level get higher adding to the pool of players with higher prowess.
TLDR the change sucks right now but in time as more players move up it should improve in theory
i am in red ranks and this change absolutely sucks for me too - you are basically forced to just play 1 character if you want somewhat of consistency

Ong yes! All my other default side characters are garyu and ever since the update, they only match up with fujin’s or higher because my main is a raijin. It’s stupid. I kept losing because of course my side characters aren’t as good as my main.
I do keep getting paired up with opponents with prowess close to mines....matchmaking taking forever to find an opponent. What if I'm playing a secondary character which I'm not good at...with a lower rank ? 😅

Weird. I have the opposite. In both ranked and quick match I can't finish a combo without finding another match. Maybe because I have it set to +-3 and I'm willing to accept a 4 bar.
I seriously think this is a way better match making system. I've been playing opponents with way similar skill-level lately because they have the same 'prowess.' Tekken Prowess shows how much 'Tekken' you know. People ranking up multiple characters to blue ranks or whatever means they are really good at Tekken. They should indeed meet people with the same prowess. Because they know several characters and way more match-ups and string knowledge and movement and defense etc.
I know people who have been playing Tekken for 5 years who barely are Ganryus. They only know one character. It's way easier for a Tekken God to learn how to play their secondary character because of their understanding of Tekken, than it's a newbie to play their socalled 'main'. This is good for everybody. I strongly disagree with that statement and I think that's why we're going to have extremely different opinions on this subject lol. But that's okay. We can disagree. In my experience I don't think I'm suddenly getting players who are much closer to my skill level. I think it's harder in general to find opponents at all let alone ones at the same level.

Matter of fact is that out of all the 2 000 000 + people who' bought and are playing Tekken 8, only 7-10% are blue rank or above, which makes them a tiny minority and in the upper level, no matter what you think about it.
Blue rank literally means you're amazing at Tekken. Tekken God and above are only 0,5% or something. For Namco it's better to please 90%, than 10%.
not having a problem at all still facing people near my tekken prowess but also people with 200+ vs my 120 and then sometimes 20 or 40k which i feel bad about. Although, one(28k in TP) of them did give me some comp which was a good surprise.

That happens when there's not a lot of players in the queue. If it's anything like other online games, then there's a certain period of time where you'll be matched with anyone who's available.
It got really weird. I'm raijin but played an orange rank then a tgs all the way in Europe
Literally noticed this yesterday - all of my opponents have been equal or higher in prowess. Same in quick matches too. I thought it was just me lol

Shouldn't be learning a new character in ranked you should come to ranked prepared with that character play quick match or go to tekken lounge makes sense
I noticed yesterday, I started to learn reina 3 days ago (i am tekken king) and every match I have got is with a tekken king or god, I tough there's no way the only people playing in purple ranks are tekken kings player xD.

I'm on Reds too and i ihave like 10 characters on Red because i labbed most characters on Online Space because i main Lei Wulong. Well now i just fight only Fujin subs in my Red rank.
I think this sucks. Nothing wrong with Fujin players but i feel like i get no one else but Fujin players and maybe sometimes some random dude. And ys the que times are now very long and i get a lot of the ''connection disqualified message''
So basically I'm sticking to my main until I hit at least 175k+. I kinda get it because they don't want people on their fourth character fighting legit Eliminators or Garyus.

@@Riuzakif2000 It's bizarre that people who's highest rank is Red can't get matches because they like using different characters. This whole thing makes me not want to rank up at all honestly. I'd be bored to tears fighting the same people over and over. Right now I get a match in ten seconds or less.
Yeah I think they should just raise the auto rank your other characters get when you rank up your main. That way your inflated rank will balance out if you lose with your new character and you're not putting lower rank players through a blender.
As far as the jump cuts go. They are fine imo. Nothing wrong wyt them, but since you brought it up I will say it flows better and feels more natural when you talk through changing screens lyke you did in thys video... Again imo. Fuc wyt you Lotus, keep up the great content!
Hmm here I was thinking it's just cause of the player drop off. If this is true it sucks and they need to change it back or rethink the matchmaking definitely was better before. My queue times are still really fast but kinda sick of fighting the same people all of a sudden.

I’ve been struggling with other characters now tbh I have two characters in blue so my prowess is higher but I don’t feel like I’m good enough to push forward for tekken king tbh , just because I can use one or two characters doesn’t mean I can use everyone on the roster .
I feel like this massively disincentivizes people from exploring the game. A large part of the fun of playing any video game is exploring the possibilities and in a fighting game I imagine that exploration mainly means experimenting with characters. As somebody whose first foray into fighting games has been through T8, I gotta say its a bit disappointing that the fun process of learning characters and finding a main has essentially been discouraged through this sleeper change. T8 has so much potential and I'm hoping that this is essentially the arcade version and will be ironed out and "perfected" (there's always gonna be something broken I feel) as the game develops.
I'm not obsessed with rank. In three days i went from raijin down to flame ruler. For me the main issue IS that I can't learn anything if i'm matched against Monsters. And that's my feeling right now, i'm not learning anything except how to mop the floor with my face.
I know you said this is for multi character players but just throwing my experience in there. I just main Jin and I haven’t noticed any substantial changes. I gotta double check what my prowess is but I’m Kishin and I think it’s around 200,000.
I personally don’t mind playing people better ranks tho honestly. It’s annoying for some time but after a few days of it, you’ll get better. Or quit the game I guess 😅. I feel like this is more of a lower rank issue. Because those people are less likely to continue if they’re getting annihilated constantly. But if you make it to purple and up. You’re likely gonna be hardened enough to hang the competition.
At the end of the day tho, it’s just a game. Unless you’re planning to make it your living… then it’s your LIFE. No pressure…
Well I didn't notice this change anyways. Still get alt players. But then again my matchmaking time was 3-4mins anyways.
It's been happening alot for me I got matched with the same kazuya player 7 times consecutively back to back, and each time the queue times for me were around 10 minutes to 20 minutes, the longest wait I had was 45 minutes I ended up just turning the game off and not bothering... This updates been the worst yet.
Also my prowess is only 120k and I'm getting matched with players 300k and over lol it's frustrating AF
I played today and everyone's prowess was really close and one person was way higher. Saw nobody with even slightly lower prowess. I only play one character.
I am a Fujin player, but I also have have 7 other characters on Fujin... My prowess is 210k...
Most of the Bushin's I've played against have lower prowess with me and the queue is just horrid because of that.
I got up to red rank and wanted to learn a new character, and every person I matched against were 130k+ tekken prowess at minimum they were mighty ruler ranked.
I haven't played in like 2 weeks and just started playing against in Wednesday and I thought it was pretty weird and maybe I was tripping. Most matches id be matched with someone with higher prowess and rarely with anyone much lower. I've been using side characters (my main being flame ruler) and I'm only being matched with people who have multiple characters.
Odd how I was hoping this was going to be the subject when I clicked the video because that's the only thing I noticed being super off besides my combos randomly dropping
The things ive noticed the most are playing the same person multiple times. Ive played someone n then like played em HOURS or days after but recently its been right after or a couple games later. Also noticed ive been playing more consistently sweaty opponents its not as up and down now.
I'm not even at Red yet, and trying new characters always matches me with Purples, and it takes so long. Weirdly enough, my mains at Orange get very normal matchmaking (although I'm getting a ton of repeats, but that's fine).
Your baseline rank for other characters already increases alongside your main, why would they need to use Tekken Prowess for that?
My main is Tekken king and I'm learning xiaoyu and got her to fujin yesterday with the new patch. Every fight was really hard to win and it was actually a lot more fun for me than stomping on noobs. Kinda like the change personally
I'm peak Fujin, I'm doing this challenge for myself where I was trying to get every character to purple. Since the update, that has become much more of a hassle. I'm facing people with 200k+ prowess on their subs and its getting a lot harder to rank up.I know this is an unpopular opinion, but for me I kinda enjoy the change. Playing against better players means I get to level up faster and I'm forced into situations that force my growth as a player. I know not everyone is looking for that, though and for the average player it can get very frustrating to lose over and over. Also matchmaking times are not it right now.

i never realized that the que changed at all honestly. i have been stuck in destroyer elo hello because i keep getting matched with garyu level players and i cant beat that level cap. on top of that i feel the devs need to get rid of the disconnect frequency%. i know it is there to punish players who rage quit, however it also punishes people who have unstable wifi and are trying to play the game. i might be at idk maybe a 10% frequency because i live in a motel and my wifi cuts out now and then booting me from the match. and because of that nobody wants to fucking play me
why is there high cue times? Is it because there aren't many people with matching prowess?
I don't think its just tekken prowess thats being used in the rank calculation. Theres something else its using too that isn't your rank in ranked. I have only ever played leo and im sitting at about 74,000 tekken prowess but i have never left the yellow ranks because I mainly play quick play because i get matched with players of a significantly higher rank and feel like I get more out of the game fighting much higher ranks. I played ranked for the first time in months yesterday and I only matched with someone in my color on the next color up twice. My matches consisted of fighting Reds or Purples. Ontop of the people close to my rank one of them were on a second or third character. I think it might be looking at matches played as well as what rank those players were even if you were in quick match

It's not as much of a problem but still annoying at low ranks too. I have Kazuya at Warrior, and I played the *same* Devil Jin 3 times in a row the other night with 3-5 minutes in queue in between.
iv noticed rank is also determined by what character you play as
