How I got STRANDED on the Ground Without My Wheelchair!

- There are a lot of struggles that come along with being paralyzed and having to use a wheelchair. Some struggles are predictable and some are not lol. This particular day, I definitely did not anticipate this happening. I had gotten out of my wheelchair to do something while repairing the sprinklers and our three and five year-old took off with my wheelchair. This part is normal… every kid is excited about playing with a wheelchair, so every time I get out of my chair they take off with it. However, this time, the little girls locked the wheels and nobody else was home. Once the wheels are locked, it’s pretty difficult to get them unlocked (especially if you have little tiny hands). 
Unfortunately, in the end, I had to scoot across the yard about 60 feet to get back into my chair… 
Moral of the story, you can do hard things. Where there’s a WHEEL there’s a way, and all that jazz!

A friend who is in a similar situation to you always carries a whistle. It alerts passers-by to his predicament and they are generally willing to help him.

@TheWheelchairDad 🥰🤗 I saw your Halloween video also and I had prayed the same thing for you. I had broken my back when kids were little so I didn't get to take trick or treating. That was over 20yrs ago and I don't remember what it's like to not be in pain all the time. To try to do things that bring me any bit of joy tend to bring me days of relentless pain and bedrest. I don't know how you do it. May God Bless you, your wife and beautiful children 🙂🤗

You are such a good dad. You are very good with your daughters. ♥️. You should have a neighbor that you feel safe they can go to in an emergency. We had a neighbor that got but my a black widow and it messed him up. He was never able to work again. Glad you made it to your wheelchair. Sucks no one stopped🥹♥️❤️

You amaze me and your testimony with your family make me stop and thank the Lord that i can still walk. I take things for granted but am growing in that so thank you for reminding me that i can walk and even with complex regional pain syndrome i can still do things.

Been there a few times, brother! My husband made me start wearing something that can alert someone, anyone when I'm in a precarious situation. People sure are interesting these days.
Dan, first thank you for sharing this series of events today. It’s heartbreaking to watch you struggle in a visible capacity (a lot of pain is invisible to the regular eye) in the midst of no one to help and the girls seeing how you handled it really makes you so much more admirable. Oh my, I feel some of your frustration - I’m 81 years old and walk with a walker but become completely helpless when I fall. I tore up my shoulder big time in a fall and all I can do is scoot on my butt to get to the door and call for help. It’s miserable and the ambo guys have to come lift me up because my legs become like jelly. So it’s no fun to get old either. 😢
I had this a couple of times with my electric wheelchair and only ones an 84 years old man on his bike picked me up and carried me to my chair, I was suprised and he told me that he went to fitness 5 times a week. The only bad thing was that my bad side the left side was full wil stuff that they use on a tennisfield and it took my husband and his co-worker 1 hi=our to take the litlle stones out of my skin, 2 weeks in hospital with inflamasions. Still sad I did not ask the old man's adres. I am a champion in falling my love tells me, I am Stuburn I want to do so much my self hahaha, hope you get help the next time, love from the Netherlands

I'm not able to get myself up off the ground into my wheelchair.
Dan!!! This could NOT have been fun or easy! Everyone knows that I am ALWAYS trying to look at the upside of things. You TAUGHT ME TODAY! You thought to grab your camera and CREATE a way to GET THROUGH! You got from ALL OF YOUR SUBSCRIBERS, EXACTLY WHAT THEY GET FROM YOU...STRENGTH, FIGHT, and FAITH! You remained CALM and FOCUSED and knowing this could HELP SOMEONE ELSE...YOU POWERED THROUGH!!!I'm literally in tears....for many reasons...but the video is both heart breaking annndd also BEAUTIFUL! WHAT A DAD YOU ARE...WHAT AN EXAMPLE YOU JUST SET!!I don't know a lot of people who wouldn't have even accidentally raised their voice at their kiddos in the midst or not panicked and got frustrated! YOU CHOSE TO TEACH MILLIONS WHAT TO DO IN A SCENARIO THAT IS LIKELY TO OCCUR WITH OTHERS!!❤ You also taught millions to KEEP YOUR EYES/EARS OPEN...HELP EACHOTHER and these comments here are exactly that! People offering tips/tricks! Doesn't get more real than THIS! I am not strong enough to pull myself like that, we just tried....and I have use of my legs...we HAVE TO be BETTER! This could have been WAY WORSE! Thanks for reminding me and mine that it's moments like these that we as adults CHOOSE to model that SHAPES OUR BABIES! You guys are as REAL AS IT GETS!! Sweetheart I left a honest thank you message in your last community post, I’m sincerely grateful to have found your channel, I have stage 2 almost 3 arachnoiditus with 6 mm facet cyst. We had no name for condition and pain level wasn’t taken seriously. Now life is so much better because of your channel!. For 35 years I’ve never had day of no back pain. We looked up dr Tennent and his advice is really sound and works. I can’t thank you enough brother! God Bless!..
I’m glad you made your way back to your wheelchair despite the pain and the time it took. You are amazing. I’m disabled too but if I’m not using my wheelchair and fall I twist and often get my arm trapped and then can’t call for help. Last time I fell I twisted my arm up my back. Good thing the paramedics came as they had already been called but I was half in kitchen and half in the hall blocking the front door. Clever aren’t I
People see you and keep on going by....ugh. I've been where you where. Not good. I've had both shoulders replaced. So getting stuck out of my chair is disastrous. I love your attitude. ❤
It's so sad to see you struggle and your gigs are upset about it and not one car stops to ask if younare in need of help. I'd have helped you the minute I saw u alone and away from the kids. Some people are not kind on this earth. So glad you did it and not in heavy pain ❤

Dan, I guess you’re going to teach your kids never take your wheelchair away from your body. Explain that your wheelchair is represents your legs. You need your legs to move from a place to place. You are very patient man. You face fear of yucky spiders with grace and fearlessness. ❤

Darn kids u gotta love them though
Bugs can live an insanely long time after you think they are dead. My mother was a bug collector. We had a beetle come back to life after flying into a kiddie pool and had drowned there for 3 days. We also had sprayed a black widow, left it for about the same time, and after it was pinned in the collection, it moved and raised one leg. We were mortified. Be careful!

It ended well, thankfully. A dirty pair of pants and a lesson learned for the girls. It could have end up much worse... it could have started to rain...a car of Google Maps could have driven by...
