    I got this ship because of how beautiful and streamline it looks... Even with the nerfs, I don't regret my decision one bit. Love how the engine roars...

      Seriously though, that size 7 feels so pleasant. I'm still learning now to fly this sucker and find myself having a hard time killing things. Mostly skill issue....partly controller sensitivity.
      If you need a wingman to have fun with HMU though.

      I traded my for an eclipse bomber and traded the bomber back. I know the inferno is significantly worse. But I just love it so much

    I think you’d like the lag pips. I find them much better when going against something the size of a hammerhead.

      Yes, it was the first hammerhead I killed in 3.16.1, and I did not have the lead/lag pip bind set up yet, so I was stuck with the lead reticle for this.

      @@cinnamonrage It's definitely situational, I usually go for lead pip on small ships, but the lag pip is much better for larger ships and to target certain areas. I found out recently that you can target subcomponents using keybinds, but I haven't tried it out on anything big. AvengerOne said that if you target the engines on a Buccaneer, it's much quicker to take it out, I'll try that one if I come across a Buc. I recently bought the Ion in-game when we were going after the Arlington Idris, and I got dry on the Inferno. I have some footage for that, I'll have to edit it, 'cuz it's long, but in that, you will see that the Inferno does a lot more damage until it runs out of ammo. Ballistics penetrating the shields have a larger impact that what I would have guessed. Also, you don't have to worry about the capacitors on the Inferno.

      I got the Inferno at last year's Invictus, I think. But it is available in game now, for about 3 million aUEC

    I got my Aries inferno last week and I love it! it is not as fast and maneuverable as a light fighter, but I am not that good of a piolet yet. lol I am still a noob! and this ship flies amazing compared to the cutlass so its a huge improvement for me. also it can take more hits before I blow up! LOLOL and the hail storm of bullets gives me a higher chance of hitting my target. I got swarmed by NPC's a while back and lost miserably because I was in the cutlass. in the Aries inferno I was able to save my friend from a larger group of ships attacking him. I think there were 2 more ships. I took them all out easy. I am not sure if they were players or NPC's. Ether way eventually a better skilled player will get me. lol but for now I celebrate this ship and my wins in game. LOL!

    Love the video. I feel the Inferno should be much more powerful, it takes alot of shots to take thru HH out but with my little eclipse I fly by and carry on.

      Thanks mate! I feel like the ship will reach its potential when resource management comes into play. Once ships like the Hammerhead have proper armor, which only be penetrated by higher caliber projectiles, and when ballistic guns can kill individual components inside the ships - if they penetrate - I think then, we will see this ship as a much more useful tool against capital ships. Putting 200 holes into the relay network will quickly disable such a large ship.

    How in the world were you keeping so tight on pip? I've tried following all sorts of "guides" to get the zones dialed in and I can not get that on key/mouse.

      @@RicoZaid_ While I don't to space combat as my primary SC content, more of a industrial lass, I do only fight in SCM speeds. The question though is that there are two settings that help keep one's marker on the "aim here" mark. From the first few fights in the vid, they don't seem to employ any corkscrewing, just normal strafing and their tight locked on that "shoot here" pip.

      I was using joysticks in the video. After you get used to them, I think it's easier keep on the pip, but I never really liked the virtual joystick you get with the mouse, it was always too sensitive for my taste.

    I cant tell if its the video editing or you genuinely have over 60 frames somehow. Beautiful footage and I love the motion blur with the cannon spin!
    Also the fact that you pushed a hammerhead nearly into the planet's surface is just 🤚😩👌

      Looking at the last five sessions, I'm averaging 85.8 fps, with a 1% low of 38.6. This is with a 3080 Ti, i7-10700K overclocked to 5.1 GHz all core, and 32 GBs of DDR4 4000 at CL16. I do get below 60 fps in cities though. This is in the latest 3.17.1 build, I don't have any actual data for 3.16.1, but it was probably lower.

      @@Badger17805 With the latest update, I'm constantly getting better frames, even in highly populated areas. The work that has gone into Vulkan integration has really helped the game out, and it's not even complete yet. It's reasonable to expect another 30% performance increase once the game fully switches over to Vulkan at the end of the year.

    Hey Cap, You or any of the other commenters recommend a particular set of sticks to use. I'm new to Star Citizen as of this week and looking at something to make flying and combat better/easier. I have nil experience with any flight sticks so no brand preference. Cheers in advance..

      Welcome, citizen! I'd recommend a dual stick setup, you'd have superior maneuvering capabilities with two sticks, compared to a hotas (stick+throttle) setup. The thrustmaster T16000 is a popular and inexpensive option, you should start with that. If you have more money, the VKB gladiators are a nice choice, you will have plenty of hats and switches, and the joysticks are much higher quality. The baller setup would be the Virpil Constellations, those with the bases go for around 800 Euros for two sticks.

      It was a bug back then. It was only visual as well, it still had to spool up for max fire rate.

      Hi! I'm using VKB Gladiators in a HOSAS setup. It's a good balance between the thrustmaster T16000 and the Virpil Constellation in terms of both price and quality.
      As of why no uploads in a while... I haven't done anything in game worth capturing. I was mainly benchmarking my new Ryzen 7000 system. Once 3.18 goes live, I'll probably upload more videos.

    Death by 1000 needles. Makes me want to pull my Inferno back out. Have been razing HHs with my Eclipse of late. My Inferno pulled me through VHRT to ERT level, loved every kill. (Hurricanes were a pain in the wazoo)

      Hurricanes are so annoying, everything else is fun to kill with the Ares, if they would reverse the pitch and yaw acceleration value changes, it would be perfect

    How do you auto spin the Ares hellgun? Which keys on the keyboard? How does the gun automatically spin when you're not firing? From the game settings key assignment section? +rep video

      It was a bug in 3.16.1. Once you fired, the gun would not stop spinning, but it still had to spin up to achieve the max rate of fire.

      Not a placeholder per se, but I expect it to be revised when they arrive at a final fire rate. This sound was made for half of it's fire rate, as the ship had a much slower firing but higher damaging configuration when it first came to the PTU. Then it was adjusted to what you see in the video.

      The Ares Inferno comes with 3800 ammo for the gun. It's good for a few minutes of firing, and it can finish off an Idris with one reload. Everything else (apart from "unkillable" ships like the Bengal) require less than full ammo reserves to kill. With 3.18 onwards, ballistics penetrate shields by 80% (meaning 80% of the damage is transferred to the hull) so it's even faster to kill ships with the Ares.

      I wouldn't get any of the Ares variants for real money at the moment. They can be bought in-game for 2.8 million aUEC, if you want to use them, but they have been nerfed pretty hard.

      @@Irked_Adjacent The Ares is OK for its intended role, but sucks for everything else :D You don't want to dogfight in it :)
      Are you buying in game or with real money? For real money, I'd go for an Avenger Titan, Nomad or Cutlass of you want to spend more. But you don't have to spend more than an Aurora or a Pisces, as the Pisces is on sale right now for the same price as an Aurora. For 45 USD, the Pisces is awesome, the Titan is the Sweetspot for money vs utility. With a Titan, you can do almost anything, you could save up money in-game and buy a Cutlass for 1.3 mil. Then go ROC mining, or bounty hunting. Save up for a prospector (~2 mil) and from there, you will be able to eventually work your way towards any ship that you want. You can also rent ships in-game, some people like trading in a freelancer.

      @@cpt.tombstone I've got a Pisces, and a cutlass black. The cutlass black being my absolute favorite to HRT hunt with. But honestly any ship I see does not interest me enough and I keep going back to my cutty. And the ares intended role is destroying large ships?

      @@Irked_Adjacent Yes, indeed, the Ares is supposed to be a direct counter against the Hammerhead and the Idris.
      Depending on what you want to do in game, there are plenty of ships that might be interesting. I used to have a Cutlass, but I wanted a ship with better interior, and larger cargo space, and I went for a Mercury Star Runner.

    Do you mentor? I just gotten my Gladitor NXT sticks as birthday gift. Set them up and flew around little bit. Was wondering about pointers and tips. Also want to learn more about the game, and it seems type of game that it be more fun with friends.

      Sure, hit me up in a PM and we can go into the verse together :D I've set up my sticks with an alternate layer, because there are a ton of functions to bind, and almost all my HATs are bound to something. I set up the Pinky button as a shift, to switch to an alternate set of buttons, so each HAT has 2 sets of buttons. I use the throttle control on my left stick for mining, as it's much easier to control the laser with that. In the end, it all comes down to preference, you should experiment on what you like and don't like. It takes some time to be as accurate with the sticks as with the mouse, I first started out with z-rotate as yaw, which was logical to me, but I switched to X-axis as yaw as it was tiring to wrists, and x to yaw made me more accurate as well.

      Well, technically, Daymar has an atmosphere, so sound would be transmitted. However, you can hear explosions in space as well in this game. It's a matter of balancing realism and fun.

    If the community complains enough, the inferno will get a buff in its own way. it doesnt have to be OP in pvp, it can be OP against heavily armored or get more damage if a ship has higher max HP shield, decreasing its damage against heavy ships but increased against large and capital ships. its all about CIG balance and how they prioritize the balancing of ships.

      I think the Inferno is in a really good place right now. Since 3.18, ballistics have been heavily penetrating shields, and some time ago, CIG made the Inferno much more accurate, so it can actually hit its targets. Now it can hold its own against smaller crafts as well, if you can get the gun on the pip.

    Was setting an in-game goal for myself to work up to buying an Ares Inferno with aUEC but am reading the comments about the nerfs. Is it worth buying in 3.17.3 just for like AI Bounty Hunts or not? o7

      For bounty hunting, you're better off with a Vanguard, like the Sentinel. Thing might change in the future, CIG mentioned fixing the rotational acceleration bug not long ago that killed the ship for me, because it made the ship feel way too heavy. IAE is coming up shortly though, you will be able to fly the ship ingame for free, try it out and see for yourself.

      gunpowder carries its own oxygen, so it's possible to fire guns in space. The bigger problem might be heat, since in space, only radiation works. In Star Citizen, ships have built-in coolers that actively provide cooling to components through space magic or something.

      They halved the shield power with the two-face design, and for some reason the whole ship feels like a brick... The MSR seems to turn a lot better, or at least it feels much better to fly, while being like five times the mass and size of the Ares?

      Please note that this is a very old video. Back then, Shields were blocking ballistic projectiles with 95% efficiency. Since 3.18, that has been reduced to maximum 50%, meaning that the Inferno is able to put a lot of DPS through the shields now. I don't have a video showing that, but these days, a hammerhead is an easy target that can be killed in 10-20 seconds by the Ares Inferno.

      CIG improved the server desync a lot, and the AI is now a lot better at shooting at you. I haven't tried going against a Hammerhead in an inferno yet, but the other day, we had a half-crewed Hammerhead go against another Hammerhead and it was a tight fight.

      You've clearly never fought one then. Even when server performance was always terrible Hammerheads were deadly if you didn't fly correctly, and I can't imagine they're any better now.

      @@GuyFromJupiter I fought a Hammerhead in a Superhornet in 3.13. It was quite easy, it just took a long time. It was about the same as it was in this video, with the Hammerhead shooting at the position I was at a few seconds ago, I imagine because of desync. It's very different now, I've uploaded a new video where I took on the Arlington Idris with a few friends. AI were actually hitting me, and getting my shields down, which has not really happened before, unless I was staying still.
