@@calvinwen9320 I agree, the shape is not elongate enough for Lingcod. From what I've seen online, Kelp Greenling is quite variable in coloration. Unfortunately I'll probably never see one freediving in SoCal. You probably already know this, but just in case, the Greenling is in the Greenling family, just like the Painted Greenling. Who'd a thunk it.

Excellent! Might be the first Striped Seaperch I've seen on YT @5:43. Is that a Kelp Greenling or just a very dark Lingcod @8:37?
I don't think it's a Lingcod. The shape of the fish looks like kelp greenling but the color doesn't match the photos I see.
