I wore cheap trainers for a while which had the obligatory arch supports and raised heel and toe spring. After a few years wearing them (and replacements every year or so) I got terrible problems with my feet. Bought myself some completely flat shoes but with plenty of toe room. They're not very thin soled like barefoot shoes but have rubber soles and enable proper toe flexing as i walk. My feet are gradually feeling better. I can now move my big toes independently of the other toes which i couldn't do before. I got myself a £10 ems foot exercisor which has had some beneficial effects. I don't know if it's any better or worse than the one advertised by a famous cricketer but it is much cheaper.
