- Welcome to Episode 5 of my China series! In this episode, I take you to one of the most iconic landmarks in Guangzhou, China-Canton Tower. This architectural marvel is not only the tallest structure in Guangzhou but also a must-visit for any traveler exploring Southern China. Here’s everything you need to know about experiencing Canton Tower, from ticket prices to thrilling activities, and tips for getting there.
Getting to Canton Tower
Canton Tower is easily accessible via Guangzhou’s efficient metro system. Simply hop on Line 3 and get off at Canton Tower Station (Exit A). The tower is just a short walk from the station, and as soon as you step out, you'll be greeted by its towering presence against the Guangzhou skyline. If you’re staying in the city center, a taxi ride should only take about 15-20 minutes, costing roughly ¥25-35depending on traffic.
Ticket Prices and Entry Information
Once you arrive, you can choose from several types of tickets based on the experience you’re looking for:
1. Standard Observatory Decks:
Prices range from ¥150-228 (about $21-32 USD) depending on the height you want to visit. The observation decks span different floors, offering stunning panoramic views of Guangzhou. I recommend visiting the 433m or 450m observation deck** for the best 360-degree views!
2. Thrilling Activities:
If you’re looking for a bit of excitement, Canton Tower has some unique, heart-pumping experiences!
Sky Drop: This is the world’s highest vertical free fall ride, situated at 485 meters. For an additional ¥180 (about $25 USD), you can feel the adrenaline rush as you plummet with a breathtaking view beneath you.
Spider Walk: Feeling adventurous? Walk the spiraling outdoor staircases on the tower’s exterior at a height of 168 to 334 meters. It’s a thrilling experience that costs ¥100-200
Bubble Tram Ride
One of the highlights of my visit was the Bubble Tram, which sits at the very top of Canton Tower at 460 meters. Picture yourself riding in a glass bubble, giving you a 360-degree view of Guangzhou’s stunning skyline, the Pearl River, and the sprawling cityscape. The tram moves at a slow and steady pace, giving you plenty of time to take in the views.
Tickets for the Bubble Tram are priced at ¥180 (about $25 USD) and are worth every penny! It’s perfect for getting incredible footage, and sunset rides are especially breathtaking as the city transitions from day to night.
Best Time to Visit
For the ultimate experience, I recommend visiting during the late afternoon. This way, you can enjoy the daytime views and stick around for nightfall, when the entire tower and the city below light up in vibrant colors. The tower itself becomes a rainbow of lights after dark, offering a magical atmosphere that is unforgettable.
Dining with a View
After exploring the decks and indulging in thrilling activities, you can treat yourself to dinner at The Starry Sky Revolving Restaurant, located at 428 meters. It’s a buffet-style dining experience with floor-to-ceiling windows for incredible views while you enjoy a variety of local and international cuisines. Prices for the buffet start at around ¥298 (around $41 USD), but the combination of great food and breathtaking views is worth it!
Canton Tower is a symbol of modern Guangzhou, and visiting it is an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just want to admire the beauty of the city from above, there’s something for everyone here. From the Bubble Tram to the Sky Drop, and the stunning views at the top, it’s a perfect spot to wrap up your day in Guangzhou.
