    good video and is self-explanatory, one question I have for you, can you rebuild the top end of this engine while the engine is still in the frame, I want to fit a new barrel and piston and was wondering if it can be done without taking the engine out of the frame, its all down to will the top frame under the petrol tank stopping the head from rising up above the studs so it can be removed, or maybe remove the front engine mount bolts so it can fall forward to give extra clearance,

      Hi sick6six,
      I would suggest you remove the entire engine. The tappet cover,head,cylinder very awkward to remove because the top frame tube and front Down tube are in the way. Remove engine because later it is easy to work on without Frustration. You can clean the oil pump easily.It will have dirt around the sides and must be cleaned when doing a rebuild .Don’t forget the very small rubber cover bung on the head beside the camshaft ,very important . Buy yourself a owner’s workshop manual or download one from the internet and follow it word by word .good luck cheers Peter

    I'm a bit confused, where were the parts that caused the rattle ?

    • @ty250z
      @ty250z  2 роки тому

      The metal parts that put pressure on the tension blades had broken ie the u shaped part has a welded rod to iti the spot weld had broken so it was floating and not properly putting pressure on the metal arm. Everything moving about causing rattling sound

    What would you say how much it cost to rebuild the top end

      A quick answer is $650 New Zealand dollars for one motor.As I got two motors machined at the same time and parts purchased.I thought $1300 not to bad. From the invoice I have ,rebore and hone and wash,cap rings and fit to pistons,regrind camshaft,strip ,acid clean decarbonisation cylinder heads x 2, reface and grind valves and seats and lap and supply two new pistons and ring sets.
      I assembled the top end myself including cam chain and tension gear . I had two new top end gasket sets about $35 each.Not a very hard job but take your time and read the work shop manual carefully and torque everything .
