You know what that means? The device is ahead of its time, that’s why the price is so high. Apple pushed the technology to its limit to make this device possible, that’s why it’s so expensive. The price won’t go down until everyone catches up.
I love the end bit with Marques and Andrew talking to each other with their Personas overlaid on their faces. Something about how their Personas look is so funny. Like you can see it matching their facial movements pretty good, but they also simultaneously have a look of mild but perpetual confusion. It's like a weird dry awkward humor sketch and it's so good, I'm laughing so hard 🤣
@1:06 That battery is normal sized, the mAh number feels smaller because it's at a different voltage (13V instead of the typical 3.8V for a smartphone battery). You can only compare two mAh (milli-amp hours) numbers at the same voltage. Wh (watt hours) is the true unit of energy and if you look up that for that battery pack it's normal (it's 36Wh). It's equivalent to a (13/3.8)*3166 mAh smartphone battery pack.
To be such a VR newbie that your first experience is with the AVP and not realizing there used to be something called the screen door effect and Fresnel lens glare. That must be nice.
MKBHD said "I still think it's crazy that it's 3000 mAH". I do want to clarify, mAH is not a good measurement of energy capacity. 3000mAH 5V battery is not the same as 3000mAH 12V battery. A true measurement would be Watt-hour. So in the previous example it's 15Wh vs 36Wh even though they're both 3000 mAH. A typical phone battery is a 3.7V rated battery. If you see the breakdown of the vision pro battery, we see 3 cells in series which would make it rated around 11V (max output of 13V) this makes this 3000 mAH battery 3 times the capacity of a phone's 3000mAH :) Hope this helps @MKBHD!
1:06 So one thing that should be important to point out is that although the battery is 3000mAh, that's actually at 11V. It is made with the equivalent of 3 iphone sized batteries. In the end, because it's not the regular 3.7 V for a battery the mAh doesn't correspond to the figures we are used to seeing. Wh would be a better metric. The Vision Pro battery pack delivers approximately 36 Wh, about double that of a regular iPhone 15 Pro. See ifixit teardown for more info.
I have to say, it is so great to see Miles in these videos! I remember finding his channel years and and years ago (from a OnePlus phone review, I think). So cool to see him on this team all these years later. Keep up the great work!
I'm truly amazed that Apple released this product and didn't have a series of use cases that justified it's existence and price. The technology is incredible, but I still haven't seen anything it does that would make me ditch my Meta Quest 3 for it.
Well that is subjective and valid. However, there are more people who do see a productivity use case for it than Apple can build, since they only supply enough for less than 1 percent of people who can afford it, they don’t need more than that to be won over. I have extremely limited space - I’m hard pressed to even have room for a laptop. The ability to place useable screens in places that can’t support even tablets or phones would be a game changer for me. The ability to lay out and extended multi-display, oversized display work layouts when you only have a tiny amount of physical space and no real world device support is the killer application. I see numerous people using this on flights and other travel scenarios. Look how many people have to carry underpowered laptops just for some opportunity to jam it into certain locations. Now you can use a loaded 16 inch M3 Max everywhere. If you’re in economy class -Stick the large laptop at your feet, just set a Bluetooth keyboard on the tiny cramped tray and now you can have a main 40-inch Mac display along with 5 15-inch iPad support windows and 8 smaller windows live tracking stock prices or other aids to whatever you are doing, as well as any personal distractions (game scores, etc). If the passenger in front leans back, more uncomfortable but it doesn’t disrupt your work area at all. Traveling work professionals will be on waiting lists for this first version. Corporations will pay for a lot of first gen Vision Pros.
Watching movies and working on an airplane with the rest of the world tuned out seems like the BEST use case I've seen. I think devs are going to build some very compelling use cases in the next couple months. I actually think moving this AWAY from games is opening up a lot of unexplored potential. Watching sports might be one of the experiences most improved by the AVP in a year or two. Time will tell. Certainly the Quest wasn't getting this much hype. I hope it continues and grows mixed reality by leaps and bounds.
Is it bad that I actually felt like the conversation at the end of the video wasn't that bad? 🤣 Felt like it really got the facial movement right most of the time when you're speaking.
@MKBHD I haven't used the AVP nor will I'm the near future since it is not available even on Apple stores in Germany. But I was thinking of the possibility of a "Screen"/Vision Share while on FaceTime, would have any number of uses. To clarify, I mean, seeing the passthrough of the person you are FaceTiming.
5:01 is that one of the guys that quit LMG after Madison was treated like garbage by the LMG management staff? I got a lot of respect for all the former LMG employees that left when they saw their coworkers being treated like garbage.
the level of stupid in that ending ...that is next level, and that is going to happen a lot because people do pull their phones out to share with each other their pics and vids when they are in the same room
Love you guys and love the channel! I gotta say, tho, I think you all are getting a little spoiled and desensitized by the tech coming across your desks! 😂 Call me simple, but I was absolutely floored by the new paradigm from a consumption perspective, almost immediately. I know it’s your job to critique and not gush, but I did pull the trigger and can see this form replacing my traditional methods of consumption. I didn’t think I would be an early adopter on gen 1 and all that comes with it, but it was compelling enough for me. YOLO.
I doubt you'll regret it. I think the best parts of the Vision Pro are still to come. It'll be even more awesome in a year or two when devs better understand the potential and design around that.
I don't get the people who call mkbhd team shills for vision pro, they have clearly told everyone to NOT buy it for now and that it's just a cool toy for now. Doesn't change the fact that it's impressive. Quest 3 still makes more sense if you want a mixed reality headset for now. But it is a good look at the future.
2:18 a thousand you said? It costs around $1600 to make. Nice try, tho. Perhaps you might wanna pick the Quest 3. At $500 Meta is losing tons of money, that one should be $999 at least.
This is true. I have the Quest 3 and UA-cam videos look so much better than they do on my phone. But i hardly ever use it for that because I can't be bothered to put it on my head. Same problem with Vision Pro.
@@dtz1000I agree that Vision will not replace PCs. Tech rarely “replaces” other devices unless they are roughly the same form factor. Phones absorbed MP3 players, digital cameras and GPSs as rectangular pocket-sized devices, but even 17 years on we still have desktops (40 years old) and laptops (30 years old) and some kind of TV in the living room (70 years old). Some things are Classic Coke. However, as someone who has owned a Quest and a Vision, I’d just add some color to the “can’t be bothered to put it on your head” angle. I can’t be bothered to put on my Quest, because it’s so gaming *centric* and there’s only so many immersive, isolating games I can play. And the experience of using it for other computing tasks is usually worse than existing platforms. But Vision is a *computer*. It makes mundane things better and more fun. The other day I was doing some boring household management on Vision and enjoyed being able to have a full sized Safari window, Messages thread, monthly Calendar, MS Word, Kaiser Permanente (healthcare), and Music library all open at the same time. When I felt like I needed extra focus I dialed in a peaceful nature environment. It’s unsexy and not something that makes a marketing sizzle reel, but an everyday computing scenario and an advantage of the iOS ecosystem. Then I perused some old photos and home videos in giant format. Then I watched Masters of the Air in a photorealistic cinema. Then I changed to into my workout clothes and did the visionOS version of Beat Saber and had fun getting my heart rate up to 150 (not saying that’s unique among headsets, but unique compared to computers and phones). Yes it’s a hassle to put a headset on your head. But that doesn’t mean headsets won’t ever work. If the hurdles are lowered (eg ditching controllers), the benefits are higher, and the use cases are broader, it can have legs. In my experience so far it’s worth putting it on at least some of the time.

Not that hard 💀 nobody even thought for a second it’s worth the price
It’s not hard it’s just words
Best review ever.
That’s actually a really good way of phrasing it.

The last conversation between Andrew and Marques! 😂
“I hate this so much.”
That ending was like a Rick and Morty sketch between two high AF Diglett versions of yourselves
Everybody's waiting at the door like a kid at a toy store and looking at mom to say go for it 😅
