Ref here. My favourite memory after ejecting a parent was looking over at the bench to see like 12 kids standing there in shock and one kid sat down with his hands over his face. I actually kinda felt bad for that kid.
After working as a scorekeeper for years at an ice rink, I can confirm that hockey parents are some of the worst. Your kid isn't going to make the NHL, Todd. Let the kid have some fun.
Interesting Canadian stat: for every 30,000 Canadian kids that play hockey; only one will play in the NHL. And that one player will probably never play 400 games to collect an NHL pension.

My brother was more of an enforcer but he was acc good at hockey he’d have the parents of the kid he fucked up beefing him wanting to fight when he came out the dressing room 😭 he also has separated a kids shoulder and the mom came at him swinging a hockey stick 😂 he was also like 15/16 at the time

I played a game once, and one of the parents was mad that we were beating them. She tried to get on to our bench (which was easy, because there was a door out to the stands.) One of our coachs tried to keep her out, but she put her foot in the door, and got her foot pinched. Then she called the cops, and they got things sorted out, not sure what happened to her, but my coach made the news. It was an exciting night, to say the least.
as someone who played 4 years of AA high school hockey (just a school club league) the worst that happened for us was -cops called to the arena post-game -while playing a catholic school a drunk parent yelling "God doesn't love you" -opposing father/coach threatening to fight one of our players in the parking lot after a _summer league game_ -arguing over monetary value of the county we live in -an opposing parent revving his truck and slowly rolling towards us while we were warming up in the parking lot -a parent stepping onto the ice and threatening to "beat the ass" of one of my teammates after a handshake line fight in which he didn't start -lots of other general drunk or sober yelling at players or other parents However as a player, it made it more fun. Not embarrassing at all lol
It's not embarrassing because it wasn't one of your parents. I've played with plenty of kids growing up who were visually upset about their parents embarrassing them
I have fond memories of winning games and scoring goals as much as the next kid who went through minor hockey, but now in our 20s me and my old teammates dont look back and share stories of big goals we scored in a tournament, but we have the most fun remembering the absolute madness that would occur sometimes. The epitome of "shitshow hockey". Looking back as an adult you just realize how ludacris those situations were. So funny.
I get it but in bantam we were In playoffs and I was around 6Ft and hit a kid that was a bit more than half my size and got a penalty for head contact which is stupid and isn’t because where else am I supposed to hit him I mean it’s ploffs and it’s kinda the main thing of hockey lol

As an ex hockey coach, I observed that many hockey parents become absolute flaming assholes in the rink. Parents are happy and whooping it up when their kids dish out hits, but blow a gasket when their kid takes a hit. This is a regular occurrence at many rinks

My dad only yelled once, when I was crossed checked in a way where my neck hit the point where the glass and board meets, I couldn’t breathe, no call, so my dad screamed to blow the whistle, he did and he threw my dad out which I thought was BS
One time a kid on my team got punched in the handshake line and when the kid who punched him was getting off the ice the kid that got punched dad decked the kid and got arrested at the rink
Seen this quite often in 20 years of playing various levels of hockey. As players we’d always get so annoyed on the bench at the parents. We’d even joke with opposing players about the parents arguing and getting all hard with each other. Ridiculous when 14 and 15 year olds actually playing (and sometimes rough games ) have more manners.
I've seen about 10 incidents all worse than these lmao, if only someone could have recorded those. (one was a full-on brawl between the parents of both my team and our opponents in which a parent was tossed from a second story riser. Carried out by paramedics with a neck brace. Good times.)
Dunno if anyone on this here internet remembers the news story in New York where a parent on Long Island fought a kid, then the ref, and then ran from the cops in 2003. That was the father of the centerman on my team, and I was the goalie in that game. Weirdest moment of my ‘career’ in hockey.
All I can say from this is thank God I never had experiences like this. This is just humiliating to not only the parents themselves, but also the players and the organization. Parents can stain an organization forever pretty much. Please guys, don't tell, don't threaten, don't call players names, and just be a good role model.

Watching triggered middle aged parents yell at each other and then call for the cops never ceases to entertain me. All that was missing was a single sloppy punch that didn't come close to landing and the instantaneous shrieking of all the Karens in the stands.
Omg my brothers team got in a fight during the game with the other team (Their Rivals) and the parents had a brawl and I was sitting watching in awe one of the parent of the other team cussed me out. I was so pissed cussed him out and smacked his ass and that’s when everyone stopped
That one dad who said his kid could have been killed showed good respect and composure towards that worker who had to ask him to leave. Lotta people woulda taken out the anger on her next but the guy took a moment and nicely did as she asked. Guy was definitely looking out for his kid.
I’m embarrassed to say, I used to be one of the parents. I spent many years as a coach/parent whose behaviour mirrored a lot of people on this video. Hockey is a fast sport full of emotion and as a fan, you get caught up in it. I now officiate soccer and I see how few people are registering to be an on field/on ice official because of the unnecessary abuse referees take. In hindsight I regret my behaviours.

It's playoff season in Massachusetts and I have had full blown arguments with fathers at squirt games I'm starting to coach this year and am starting a summer JV hockey league so I don't have to ref
