Lol... Does this really need to he said? As if a doctor would consider not helping and letting someone die, because his loyalty to his team would be questioned.
Nothing warms my heart like when an opposing member of the team you're playing against frantically waving medical staff on to the ice to ensure that you are okay and being help. I love seeing people get crushed against the glass but I also love seeing people helps those when they need it
Marchand would have tried stomp on his neck with his skate when he was down when nobody was looking. 99% of the NHL are decent guys, some of them not so much.
He passed out due to a chest cold that he had. He was dehydrated by the cold (which lowers your blood pressure and speeds up your heart rate when you are dehydrated) and also the medication he was taking for the cold had antihistamines in it also accelerates heart rate, dehydrates you, and also lowers blood pressure due to the sedating affect. Add that to the fact his physical stress he was under and it caused a drop in his blood pressure that caused him to faint.

Steve Mason was very sick, so that's why he didn't start this game. It was definitely something floating around the locker room because it was reported that Neuvirth wasn't feeling well at all before the game started, but he had no choice but to suit up and get to the net, thinking, hoping and praying that he'd be able to fight through it. Turns out that as soon as he went into the typical goalie stance during the time of the faceoff, everything just went dark, the lights got blurry, and boom. He fell. This was taken from a press conference Neuvirth gave upon being released from the hospital. I think it was just a bad sinus infection, which can feel like death itself (speaking from experience).

5:13 It happens quickly, but when the goalie drops, you can see the closest ref skate towards him. The ref only sees him out of the corner of his eye, and he begins immediately skating towards the goalie, but doesn't look at him. His eyes stay on the face-off. Weird, but something about that split second screams professionalism to me. Like he'd seen goalies pass out many times before. I would have stared in shock for a second, wondering if it was a joke.
