I LOVE 99-2010 Ford Explorers. Addicted. On my 4th and probably last. Can't afford to repair my lady and my health issues get worse. V6 4wd only though. Best. Had a 2004 with 375,000 before it died
These explorers always were always really good at being yard mules. Working hard around trails. Though the 4.6 was 99% of the time reliable(in my use), the 4.0 was either great or junk. No in between
I own three 4.0 they all run an 94 dohc with 370,000 a 09' sohc with 150,000 but was t boned so I'm looking for passenger doors for it. And a 10' with only 120,000 they are all 4x4 and I've had good luck with them. But my 2010 is having the most issues with fuel level sensor caked up with ethanol. Along with a small miss at low rpms in the winter and shit milage at 80mph like 18.5mpg and over 24mpg going 90(i live at high elevation). The 2010 is just a different beast. I love the 4.0 I'm not a fan of the 4.6 because I feel a lag in power response . And the 94 is a Cockroach my dad abused the hell out of it aand then when I got it as a teenager I abused the hell out of it. We have used all three to pull a 16 foot flat bed in town and use them to move camp trailers because they have smaller wheel base then the trucks and they back trailers real nice.
The driver headlight looks like it got burned. I thought it was in a fire at first. Here, it would probably be about $1500 not running. Fixed up, I would say.....$6,000 give or take. Maybe 8 on a good day. Now, a dealer would probably get about $9500 out of it, which is ok I guess...but I would want everything fixed on it before I paid that much.
Had a 2000 Explorer with the 4.0. I loved it while I had it. Only ever had one problem. Some sensor went bad and it would just turnover and not start. That was it.
Just went on Auto Tempest and searched a 100 mile radius from where I am at (near Akron, Ohio). I searched 2010 and older with 4WD (2011 was the first year they switched to the crossover body). Only had 21 listed. So this body style and older is pretty much gone from my area. I did find a 2008 Eddie Bower model with 200k on it. They want $8k, which the car site said was $4k too high.
I had a 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer from 2017-2021. It was a decent car, especially up north when it would snow. The major drawback was the air conditioner in the summer, it just could not cool that big of a box even with the rear vents. I traded it in for a new Jetta and they gave me $4,500 for it with 120,000 miles. They ended up selling it for $9,000.
Had the exact same problem with the harmonic balancer on my 2007 Explorer about a year ago. Started with the power steering going out. Took a couple trips to my mechanic before he noticed the balancer separated.
We had a 04 or 05 4.0 4x4 Explorer growing up. Had all of those engine problems you had with yours, that one got parked. I like the Mountaineer's more, it's like an Olds Bravada; luxury SUV but cheaper. Out in Wyoming it would be worth, well not being 4x4, maybe $1500 as it sits now. Before the work, I'd say $750-1000. All clean it becomes a $3000 or more family hauler.
Great video as always Jay. That Ranger cleaned up nicely and this will as well. Wish it was a 4x4 but it will be fine. Love the Mercury Mariner though and Navigator of this generation as well. Where I'm at non running would be $1700. Running would be $4900 or more. Market is crazy as well.
I have a 05 Sport Trac. Those SOHC 4.0s ain’t too horrible. Mines rear chain have been rattling for close to 40k miles and never got worse or did anything but it goes away once it’s driven, I’ll wait till she blows and go from there lol. I use Lucas it STP in every oil change.
Needs a good cleaning that's for sure. I remember when the explorer first came out. My parents was in the market for a new vehicle. Mom just started working as a home health aide and knew the fox body ltd they had wouldn't work in the snow. They was looking at the explorer but wanted more room for the grandkids. I noticed that the aerostar had AWD and pointed it out to them. They ended up buying the same aerostar I pointed out to them. It was my sister that had kids I was still in middle school at the time. The aerostar also came with the 4.0 witch my parents had in theirs. Was the only engine you could get with AWD in the aerostar. Was a good van my parents never had any issues with it. They also pulled a 18 foot camper with it.
She'll sell. I'll stay the hell away from those, but it will sell. In this day and age, it'll sell for good. Good find man. Get that thing the hell out of there.
Looks like it has a 3rd row seat too - Wouldn't bring much more than $2,500 here in Detroit though, mainly because of the miles and only being RWD, but being rust-free would give it "some" value but would definitely be a slow seller here. Interesting to see how much more money stuff like this is worth in other parts of the country.
Hey Jay nice video man that's a nice looking truck but besides it be a Ford I don't like Ford's but around here in iowa that truck could go for three to four thousand dollars. I'm sure it will be nice once you guys get it cleaned up can't wait to see the end product keep up the good work keep grinding God bless and peace out
2007 Without rust even.Wow.Probably $3500 ask,and about that to the new owner.Heck,I'd throw a blanket on the rear seat, after it's cleaned and drive it until it dies, and find a 302 to bring it back.(btw.Michigan,in case you've forgotten which I don't blame you at all.I usually tell people "I live in the great state of Confusion".)
Isn't advancetrac electronic stability control? If so interesting they'd put that as a badge, must have been to calm the storm over the explorers flipping over
That explorer with high mileage will be worth between 6K to 7K if sold in the rust belt states.Rust free cars/trucks are worth every penny up north.I glady offer 6500$ as long the transmission fluid/filter where change,Sucks ford decide to Sealed those transmissions.I prefer having a dipstick.
Maybe I need to haul it up to the rust belt to sell it ! Ive done it before! Gotta make them extra bones anyway possible ;) Did you get a new profile picture? big doge is looking... Bigger? owo
I have no experience with Exploders but this video sure makes me miss my parent's 86 Bronco XLT. That was a badass truck. I drive Honda Ridgeline, closest thing I could find to that old Bronco. I have no interest in the new Bronco, an Exploder with an even more fracked up engine. No clue how much it's worth right now, stupid prices on everything. Does the algae come for free? There is enough on that to feed a few vegans for a week or 2 if you harvest it without harming any animals.
This leads me to the question that I’m going to ask, I know you’ve probably forgotten that the old man used to have this, does this bring you back to the old memories of that green 97 explore that y’all had? I most certainly remember the old days.
Nice! I just bought my aunt’s ‘04 Eddie Bauer 4.0. Guess what… it needs chains! Bet nobody coulda guessed that one… I have a soft spot for Explorers though. They’re awesome SUVs.
Nice job finding the problems! Are those common to that vintage? I like the interior on my 98 MUCH better, the 07 interior looks so generic. Yours cleaned up very nice for a 200K car.
My father in law got a 2007 explorer 4.0 with 87k for my little brother in law to drive - watch out for the thermostat housing and heater hoses on the back top of the engine - they both will leak its got about 100k on it now not bad other than topping up the coolant because well changed thermostat housing to find out heater hoses are leaking lol
The 4.0 was pretty great in the 80s but them newer ones aren’t as reliable finding a explorer with the 3.0 is the way to go those are really reliable not as fast but reliable
Cooool! love the explorer, except the newer ones look like cringe fake range rovers, this is the last generation where it still has the real explorer look. I have one these and a 1st 2nd and 3rd gens.
Today's market is nuts. Normally any vehicle with higher mileage is less expensive. This one is rust free, 4wd and not beat up. She's a winner 🏆
the advancetrac is a electronic stability system. in case you’re wondering
Good morning jay happy Easter 🐣🐰

Nice find Jay. Glad you could get it running 🙂👍
Great to see you and your dad working together, where you been?
Looking forward to seeing you finish the car. Good Job!
Nice! I have a 06 Explorer Limited V8 AWD with real low miles (just 39k) and Carvana offered me over $8000 for it. This market is crazy!
Oh lord what a Ford, LOL. THANKS JAY
I like those years of explorer
These explorers always were always really good at being yard mules. Working hard around trails. Though the 4.6 was 99% of the time reliable(in my use), the 4.0 was either great or junk. No in between
I have a 4.0 I have no issues with it almost at 200k
I own three 4.0 they all run an 94 dohc with 370,000 a 09' sohc with 150,000 but was t boned so I'm looking for passenger doors for it. @@W0RLDSSMALLESTVI0LIN Double Over Head Cams
That'll clean up really nice. Good to see another car brought back onto the road over being sent to the crusher.
What a strange failure mode! Great bit of forensics! 🤔
That's a lot of mildew for just 3 years. I remember humid summers in SC and GA from childhood. But lawdy that's a heap of growth LOL.
Good looking vehicle. Can't wait to see the final results

I think it will clean up really nice!!! Wish it had the V8 and 4x4 though. The 2 last generations of the body on frame explorers are my favorite.
I actually almost bought this one myself, small world
I live in Chicago. Fixed and clean this would be $3500-5k ish here.
Had a 2000 Explorer with the 4.0. I loved it while I had it. Only ever had one problem. Some sensor went bad and it would just turnover and not start. That was it.

there wasn't many of the 3rd gens made, the least out of any explorer generation.
Sweet dude!!! Heck of a steal jay!!!
In my area this rig would sell for probably around $8,500
Thanks for the new content Jay!

You sure are good at bringing the dead rides back to life brother. 👍 All the work you done is perfect even the engine sounds excellent. Great job.👍✌️👌
Late on seeing this one, not bad if it at least had a 4.6 I would love to own it. Happy Easter Jay.
Had the exact same problem with the harmonic balancer on my 2007 Explorer about a year ago. Started with the power steering going out. Took a couple trips to my mechanic before he noticed the balancer separated.
Not bad. Re: pricing, there's one '07 Exploder XLT in the Seattle area on CL. A red metallic cloth interior 4x4 model with 157K. Advertised for $7K.
That's going to make someone a nice ride... They're going to love the truck-like towing and cargo-hauling capabilities.

Enjoy your videos brother keep up the good work and like see different things thank you
only the very early model 4.0 v6s have the timing chain tentionner problems
Not a bad suv be good for a family

After everything is all set and done it could bring an easy $6,500 up here in Massachusetts
Hey Jay. She sounds good and smooth. She definitely needs a shower. Happy Easter to you and your family.
hell yeah thats my daily she has 276k on her all she needed was routine maintenance itll last forever. makes me happy that you own one now :)
Never seen one with barnacles growing on the side!
That should clean up real good... Looks like you should do ok as long as you don't get too greedy considering the mileage.

Love from Morocco Jay ❤ God bless America 🙌
I have seen a exploerer same year with 175 grand for $13. 500 in Chicago area, prices are crazy!

Jay Smart I just did some calculating on my computer's calculator and you're into the '07 Ford Explorer for $1,144.00
I don’t mind the 4.0 v6 that’s what’s in our 07 mountineer 180k and it’s been beat to hell 😂
best of luck with it. hope you can get more money out of it than you invested.
Nice explorer should get good morning for it!
Do you guys have a website for the dealership
Glad you got this SUV bro I enjoyed the video
My dad had one same gen but a Eddie Bauer he rear ended something it was totaled

Nowadays everyone and their mother Wants an suv or truck, In my area that would fetch over 2g if you are lucky.
Nice buy i think👍
Jay up in New Jersey w/ current market $5900 retail ready
Good job. Not much here.
This would go for around $3300-$5100 private party in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Nice! I just bought my aunt’s ‘04 Eddie Bauer 4.0. Guess what… it needs chains! Bet nobody coulda guessed that one…
I have a soft spot for Explorers though. They’re awesome SUVs.
looks nices
Love the videos Jay
Anywhere from $3000 to $12000, all depends on Rust and kilometers.
It’s and easy $4,000 bill in todays market,,otherwise it would’ve sold for $1,500.

Not a bad looking truck. Do a burnout video with it before the new tires
I’ve always liked the look, and shape of these older Ford Explorers. The newer ones got quite boring looking after 2010.
$3500 or so here in Florida with those miles
4 grand would be a good sale price
nice firebird beside the ford
Thank you! Its a 1979 trans am t-top car!
Just bought an 05 explorer 4wd 4.0 in October 188000 miles paid $1000 for mine running driving needing few little odd and ends but drove homw
The one in the video usually runs 3-5000 easy for sale in the flotown area in decent condition
3995 for said suv
$4-5k all day in MO
Trans Am looks interesting. Chevy wheels are out of place though
👍 👍
Put a new fuel rail pressure sensor gonna need one soon best to replace it now no worries later 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But not at the rate of Ford engines. Plasticy garbage.

how stupid prices are now I'm sure you could get 10 grand for this baby, seems like it will clean up nice

Why not give to your grandparents?
4500-5000.

I think the smallest motor that the older explorers ever had was the 4.0. The 3.0 came in the ranger and the aerostar.
@@ssclassof2000 you are right I am thinking of the Ford Escape/mercury mariner which came with the 3.0
WRONG.
