Worked a junk yard for 24 years. Your comment about how stressful it is to make a kill list for the crusher brought back many memories. My wife used to say that I got emotional about it. As I looked at each piece, I always remembered where I bought it and the stories the owners told me. I saw the bottom of the glass as half full, but each item off out of inventory made the glass worth less. It would take three times as long to get the last value out of something because buyers would want parts from the cleanest, most recent arrivals . You had to cut and bait to keep fishing. We were limited in our foot print - buy 35 cars or trucks- a week, you had to keep the cash flowing. Scrap was a reliable flow when managed well. Paul
I like this one, it shows an important part of running a junkyard----making the decisions to which vehicles stay and which ones go. It's important, because you don't want to get rid of something that still has value in parts, yet you don't want to hang onto something that has either been picked clean, or has parts nobody's going to want.
Thank you! Lots of people want this saved or that to be saved. But its a different story on the other side of the camera. Things may look decent in the background. But when you get up close or better yet in person you start to realize that some of these cars are just done. Rust has either eat them away, or careless owners have destroyed them to a point where even I wouldnt fix them back up. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses, and open up the space for a car that can actually spare its parts and make some money.
Daniel, that's not how it works----that's a car that's taking up valuable space in the yard, a car they can probably get more for in scrap metal value than the value of that one part. Besides, if that one part is super-rare, they can always pull it before they send it to the crusher.
That would explain why you did not spray the "red X of death" on so many obvious wrecks, yet you sprayed other vehicles that were not so beat up by comparison.
Volvo looked just like my husbands. he was a Volvo mechanic. when he passed away I gave it to his son. stays in the garage with a car cover lol. I think his was a 2004 or 2005..I think
I couldn't do your job as my back yard would just look like your yard. I'd want them all. I'd still have the caddie tho. Looks in good condition for its age. Definitely be good to have a video of the old girl
Good way to remove wheel locks is to take a steel pipe, heat it and hammer it on the lock and let cool. Also use a smaller socket and hammer it on the wheel lock.
If you Ever come across a 1986-1991 Chevy S10/Sonoma with a 2 5 Iron Duke i Rrrreeally need the fan hub. Mine came without a Fan Clutch. It was like, cooling fan to hub to water pump pulley. I checked my local yards and they crushed all 5 trucks with the Iron Duke.
Ill see if i can set something up soon. Our bucket loader used for car destruction is still out of commission so we havent been able to crush anything large lately.
What's that maroon ( or whatever you call that color) car at 8:30 that's facing the open doored gray one? The taillights as seen from a distance make me think of Chevy cars from when I was a kid. They look like they're having a staring contest.
Josh McCall nothing at the moment. the most up to date junkyard stuff you will find comes through this youtube channel. we never really got the Facebook page going
Jay Smart oh okay. I love vehicles and I just discovered this channel. I subscribed so I can keep up! I would love to work in a junkyard, looks pretty awesome haha
Yes the black one at 7:41. I need that cover for my S60 R. Ipd sells the cover for 40 bucks just because it says Ipd on it. The DEM is know to burn out on the s60 because volvo did not put a cover over the module and since it sat next to the exhaust, it would burn out. The s80 however got one. So i need to source one
bob79444 maybe in an all compact class i would but our derbies are all cars. i have run newer impalas with the early iron cars but a cav is too small for me. maybe im not as nuts as i used to be

justsomeguytoyou even if something is stripped out in there's only one you should keep it because somebody might need that one part

You all have a lot of GOOD JUNK. I used to love prowling around the local salvage yards.
J-body fan here. I am currently driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire with 263K miles on it. It just keeps going and going.

I couldn't do your job as my back yard would just look like your yard. I'd want them all.
I'd still have the caddie tho.

Ill see if i can set something up soon. Our bucket loader used for car destruction is still out of commission so we havent been able to crush anything large lately.
One of those Caddies with a 305 in it. That must make for really sedate motoring...
One of my coworkers has a Sunfire. Biggest piece of poop ever. Has no hood can barely go into gear and the interior smells like a chimney.
I had a 307ci in my 87 Caddy.
Bet that thing had some decent torque!
I had a 93 Lincoln like the one in your video and it was very hard to find parts for it.
Someone probably transported a dead body in that Corolla.
Or left it in the trunk! It was seriously the worst smell that ive ever encountered with a car.
Jay Smart did you ever film the smelly car
Jay Smart did you ever video that corolla with that smell?
Do you have any Buick Reattas or late 1960's Ford Thunderbirds in there?
I love the phone quality what kind is it, and I wish I worked there at the junk yard :p
I got a Corolla like that one
Oh please tell me you're going to rescue that Corolla and fix it up.
Man I need a converter torque for my corolla
I might take a Sunfire if it's a yellow 1995-1999 coupe.
How come you didn't choose to buy the Cadillac? Go well with your Lincoln
Or the next generation crown vic
The cadillac didnt have proper paperwork with it. and i didnt feel like fighting the DMV to get it straightened out
I'm looking for the drivers side door panel for a 1996 Dodge Dakota it needs to be gray does that yard have anything?
Do you still have that Volvo from six years ago
What was the deal with that grey Bonneville and that red Mercedes?
What's that maroon ( or whatever you call that color) car at 8:30 that's facing the open doored gray one? The taillights as seen from a distance make me think of Chevy cars from when I was a kid. They look like they're having a staring contest.
Toyota Corolla, also marketed as the Chevy Prism
It's a Chevy Prism
I liked that old laser they are rare
I want that maverick so bad!!!! Where are u guys located?

Please do a vidya on that cabover
Is that volvo an s80? I need the cover that is next to the exhaust that covers the differential module. Also, Im really tickled to see that corolla!
Are you talking about the black volvo?
Yes the black one at 7:41. I need that cover for my S60 R. Ipd sells the cover for 40 bucks just because it says Ipd on it. The DEM is know to burn out on the s60 because volvo did not put a cover over the module and since it sat next to the exhaust, it would burn out. The s80 however got one. So i need to source one

We sell alot of the cavaliers and saturns to local dirt track racers!
i just used an 02 cavalier for an auto cross derby. and i was impressed how good it worked.
carminefast77 nope i use them for regular derbies and if you notch and prebend the ass end they do good
bob79444 maybe in an all compact class i would but our derbies are all cars. i have run newer impalas with the early iron cars but a cav is too small for me. maybe im not as nuts as i used to be
bob79444 Cavaliers and sunfires are great for derbys and dirt track racing, Those 2.2L engines can sure take a beating
The black Volvo is a 2000 Volvo S80.

If the Toyota smells THAT bad, then take it to the rally and force everyone to let you win or else... the smell!
You have no idea how bad the smell was. Literally, Ive been through a slaughter house. And Id rather go back to the slaughter house.
So are you gonna just salvage usable parts off that thing like the engine and trans?
Or else,...the smell of hell!
Jay Smart do a video of that stinky bad smell car. The surprise. I wanna see it.
my dads was an 02 or 03 or 01
Looking for a box Chevy truck
jay smart, the new Davids farm...with way less crazy stuff..
Should I be trying to do more crazy stuff? lol
RIP sears
Can you do a video of them crushing these cars?
Anybody know if thats a pick your parts kind of yard or full service?
We are a metal recycling facility. However, parts can be purchased before cars are crushed, but you remove them yourself
maybe a cat or a racoon died in that last car.
Make more car crushing videos
It was 9:21 in the morning not 9:30! Lol
I rounded up
At 1:12 of video you missed the mercedes sel with taped on fender scoops crying out to be euthanized what a pitiful ending for a german panzerwagen!
Siri had a dead body in it
layk
hey theres nothing wrong with cavaliers and sunfires they make damn good dirt track cars along with the 2 door saturns
nooooooo not the black Mitsubishi Montero sport
Sorry man. it just wasnt worth it
9:50 lmao
cavalier suck how do you git rid of the alarm system
Stop
One of those Caddies with a 305 in it. That must make for really sedate motoring...
yea, the 305 wasnt the strongest engine. But once again all it needed to do was get a caddy to 60 and set cruise control lol
+Jay Smart I'd have thought that with a 305 in a car that size 60 might be optimistic...
