    "The world needs to take seriously the first coming of Jesus". That packs a lot more meaning than most people might realize.

    I do think JRE is a barometer for culture. When you spend that much time in dialogue with people from every walk of life you can take the temperature of the human soul in some way. Then you have the millions of people listening and being shaped by these conversation. Really great video thanks!

    Very excellent message Glen. I wish I could send it to all the people I am ministering to. I live on the Camino de Santiago and speak to hundreds of pilgrims, many of whom express the same sentiments as Joe Rogan. My message is practically the same as yours, from before I even found you. Thank you for your content I find it exceedingly useful in my ministry.

      So are you acknowledging the religions that came BEFORE CHRISTIANITY are more legitimate than Christianity because they came first? You know like the Ancient Greek Mithra ? Where a virgin birth took place, performing of miracles, persecution,CRUCIFIXION, AND RESSURCTION all took place hundreds of years before Christianity? How do you reconcile with that?

    Great breakdown. I've always been sceptical of Joey; not because he wasn't a Christian, but an avatar of a kind of Boomer Truth, that's clearly collapsing. I could have been accused of this too. The prodigal son path was my journey. Good on Joe.

    You see the humor in the Rogan/Rogers interview without being arrogant. Difficult to pull off and you do it well. I like how you opinion that Rogan needs to look back at the first coming of Jesus, not looking for a second one. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali muses (I think on this show, and others) that there are no atheists, we just have different gods/God, and we should make our discussions with this view when comparing different worldviews. One question I have is how do we show the main purpose of man is to know and enjoy God is is THE story, not just another story among the 1,000's of stories that is good for us because stories are inherently good, as Yuval Noah Hariri points out. Speak Life is doing a good job of doing this.

    Indeed. And it's more than just fulfilling a need and seeking moral direction.
    One aspect that is often overlooked are truth claims, particularly that of Jesus and his apostles on our condition and the afterlife.

    12:34 An insight I get about the terrible plight of war veterans is that the prevailing narrative they return to in the West is not strong enough to explain/counter/heal what they have witnessed. It’s the same conundrum described by Heart of Darkness (Conrad) and Apocolypse Now (Coppola). It takes a stronger man to bind a strong man, and war experience is a strong man; wokish philosophy is not stronger. So sad.

    7:30 Purpose is KEY. The Greeks had four aspects of a thing: its form or shape, what it's made of, how it's made, and its PURPOSE. Modern conversation around life describes structures (like the cell), what they’re made of (proteins), and posits how they may have come about (soup). It does not talk about WHY. Take a spoon. I can describe its shape, that it's made of metal and that it was made in a factory. I can also say what its purpose is. Its intrinsic purpose is to stir coffee. If I gift wrap it, its extrinsic purpose is to express my love for my wife. I see purpose in all creation, intrinsic and extrinsic. The sun going down at the end of the day brings night so the rhythm of life can benefit from rest (intrinsic), and the sunset makes my heart swell because it is beautiful (extrinsic).

    I’m tired of the ‘there are 1000 gods, I just don’t believe in one more than you’ argument. There are 1000 Elvis impersonators; does that preclude the reality of one true Elvis? In fact, that there ARE 1000 Elvis impersonators would tend to suggest that there IS a true Elvis!

    • @DiegoWebberos
      @DiegoWebberos 4 місяці тому +4

      Very poor analogy. None of the impersonators claim to be the one true Elvis. None dispute that they are anything other than impersonators. It’s cute, but it’s sophistry.

      It's in the simple understanding that Christianity at least makes the effort to be a universal religion rather than be a local folk religion. Greek mythology is theologically very light compared to Christianity. It's less interesting, which is why it died out, rather than being passed on to future generations. Judaism is still tied to a specific people and Islam is still intrinsically tied to Arabia. In my opinion Christianity's only real competitor in Buddhism.

      @@DiegoWebberosWho is a Jesus impersonator that claims to be Jesus?

    • @DiegoWebberos
      @DiegoWebberos 4 місяці тому +1

      @@pbo6562 Not sure what you mean. Perhaps you should be asking the op. I didn't say, or allude to, such a thing. I was talking about Elvis impersonators, and how that analog is poorly suited to making comments about gods or god or the lack thereof. I mean, since you ask, there are plenty of evangelical preachers who claim to heal the sick and even raise the dead, Benny Hinn for one. But that wasn't what the comment was about.

    We all need to prepare for the particular second coming of Jesus when our own mortal lives conclude. There is one Name given to us for our salvation. Any other “gods” are a combination of fantasy and the ongoing spiritual struggle between angels and demons for the souls of humanity.

    believe in Jesus not because it works, but because he's the truth. he's real. God is a real being with feelings like you and me. his ideology isnt enough for people to follow him. they must truly know and believe we'll meet him one day. because we are. GOD IS NOT A METAPHOR!
