Each day I also question why I keep buying when I have too much & space is becoming an issue. Yet I cannot help myself. I guess it's like George eloquently stated, we are living in the material world.
Haters gotta hate . . . You keep doing the things you love ❤😂 I watch your show. Sometimes I agree , sometimes disagree , sometimes you open me up to fresh ideas so it's all good . Good man
Fortunately I still have my vinyl record collection, which I recovered from my rented storage space and brought back home during the COVID year. I haven't added to my collection since the 1990s, so I just feel grateful in owning what I have - the vinyl version with the 12" cover artwork and any additional items like booklets, lyric inserts, posters, etc. that may have come with the original first edition of these LPs.
Man, folks can be pretty rough. Well, for what it's worth I appreciate your point of view on Beatles material. You've brought a lot of forgotten gems out into the light. Just last week I was listening to Rotogravure, an album I never really connected with when it came out, and yet it has first rate contributions from all 4 Beatles, all thanks to you. Thanks for all the thought and work you put into these posts. I always have to hit "pause" and listen to at least one song you've mentioned every time I watch your channel, without fail.
Always nice to hear your opinion! When I was 14 I started collecting Beatles/solo/Apple artists records etc. Then cd's came, collecting all over again, I kept the vinyl! And now again vinyl, too expensive, I don't! Happy with the cd's now and the nice boxsets coming out! But I also like all the Yoko stuff! She's great, Even when I was 14, I liked her music! I've seen her twice in Den Haag and Amsterdam! And next month we're going to London Tate Modern for Yoko! Open up your mind and give it a try! You won't regret!
The great majority of vinyl records sold today are digital not analogue, and for this reason as well as the astronomical price i no longer buy them. I would much rather see proper analogue reissues of original analogue lps than this "remastered " travesty. 5:09
Very true. Always people moaning about reissues sounding awful on discogs and the state of the viny, it being warped or scratched brand new. Most of the time an all anologue is available at the same price or cheaper, just don’t understand why people buy this rubbish.
Hey John, i must say i always look forward to your reviews of albums especially Beatles and Stones material. I have always found your views to be fair and subjective, even in your lists of favourites, whereby you always remind the viewer that these are your personal choices and some may disagree. So, more of the same my friend.. As for stopping buying vinyl, good luck with that one, i said the very same as im running low on space, but just last week i found a second hand vinyl stall at an indoor market and soon found myself immersed, leaving with Fleetwood Macs greatest hits( Peter Green era) and a 12 inch Stones live from 82 Time on my side bw twenty flight rock. I still find browsing old vinyl addictive....
I know exactly what you mean about running out of storage space for my vinyl & cd's. I've taken care of my cd storage issues by putting half of my cd's in slim sleeves. As for my vinyl, I'm going to have to go through them and get rid of the ones I'm never going to listen to. I just moved recently, and it was a nightmare moving all my stuff.
Enyoyed hearing your thoughts. Can't disagree with any of them. And surely the only point in listening to somebody else's "best" list is precisely because it's different to my own?
I think I'm kind of done at almost 70 years old. I have avoided LPs pretty much for awhile just because of the bulk and weight and place to put them. My last hurrah seriously was the last 4 years or so completing my collection of U.S. released Apple 45 rpm singles. I had about half of them until 2020 and now I have them all. Recently I picked up the first U.S. Capitol 4 song EP by the Beatles. I have the second one from 1965 but am missing the cardboard sleeve. I'm still kind of half heartedly looking for that cover plus maybe the one Vee Jay 4 song EP from 1964. Other than that I'm done. Really, at my age I should be starting a big sell off. I could actually make a little money helping others with their collections!
Very well said John. I completely agree with everything you said. I remember the first time that my brother and I saw let It be Back in 1970 I believe at the theater and it was just a little strange to see her in the studio. My brother and I never fell in that category of Yoko broke up the band. This guy that you're talking about on UA-cam sounds like a real clown. One more thing I watched the video of you and Matt and Matt's a really good guy has a great channel, he didn't seem really keen on mind games it seemed. But like you said we all have got our own opinions. Hopefully John you'll do a video that shows where the hidden tracks are on the Lennon box set which I should have in about 2 weeks. Glad you're not taking any crap from the beach boy guy. Great video
Hey John, you’ll be shocked to hear that I actually purchased “One Hand Clapping” and, believe it or not, I quite like it. It’s not a world beater for sure but I find it to be a fun listen overall. Maybe old age is finally getting to me. Could it be it’s time to dig out “London Town” from my attic?!?!?!? Terrific video as always, my friend.
I have never really seen the point of owning multiple copies of the same record. The ones I originally bought on vinyl I later bought on CD, and I have bought all those expensive Beatles boxes, but that's about it.
When you mentioned at the end of people complaining in the comments of videos of your favourite albums that makes me want to write this out. My favourite video of yours is 'My Top 20 Favourite Albums of All Time' and one of the main things I love doing is going through the comments looking at everyone else's attempt at theirs including my own. But the one thing I've seen commonly on that video is people saying stuff like this for example, 'NO QUEEN!? NO BLACK SABBATH!? NO THE WHO!? TUSK BY FLEETWOOD MAC!?'. People should bare in mind that you might not be a fan of those bands, and like you said it would be boring if we all had the same opinion.
Great video,John! I totally agree! We all have our opinions on things. It would be a very strange world if we thought or do the same things. Thank you, sir. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I was corresponding with my brother and telling him what an improvement you thought the new mix of Mind Games is. He said in his view the problem with remixes becomes, "What exactly IS Mind Games?" Is it the original release? Is iit the newer release? What is the actual piece of work called Mind Games?
I agree with everything you said John. Mind games is actually my favorite John Lennon album but I don’t need a box set. I’m either going to get the remix vinyl or Cd. I’m spending my money on the synchronicity box set by the police because I’m more of a police fan and I would listen the box set way more. I never understood the Yoko backlash over the years. I love Yoko.
Regarding vinyl prices i was going to purchase Steely Dan's The Royal Scam on UHQR. The cheapest i can find is £178 and is equivalent to approx $225. However in the US copies will retail at $150. Another example of rip-off Britain.
I also find people questioning my integrity more annoying than most other things. I still enjoy your channel and your opinions wether I agree with them or not. Said that, I do mostly agree. 👍
I always enjoy your reviews solo and with Matt. You don't seem to be the type of person who is going to be compromised by a free box set. Sean does a great job on these releases. He treat his fathers legacy with respect unlike Elvis' estate in my opinion. John told George Martin in 1979 he wanted to rerecord all the Beatle songs, especially Strawberry Fields! So it seems to me John would love these reissues.
I like the original remastered mind games cd I see the Remix has an extra bonus if people want it.I use Spotify now because my film collection needs more room.
I saw that comment. Folks dont understand what promo copies. Print reviewers hardly ever bought the albums they reviewed. Forever. Great chat ✌🏻the original mix was terrible. It finally is a very good record. End of story. 😵💫🤠😎🤓
