  • If you're only interested in seeing the best part of the video and the main reaction, you can just skip to the 7:00 mark of the video. Otherwise.....This video is about A Strange CA Glue and Iodine Phenomenon I stumbled across tonight while experimenting with trying to find alternatives for a super glue activator or accelerator. While I've done a video on how Isopropyl alcohol works with curing CA glue, I never expected the results that came when I mixed Iodine and cyanoacrylate together that's for sure. I hope you find this video interesting and enjoyable. Thank You!

    Did you try to put a protective layer between them? Like nylon, if it stops reacts then it's the vapour, if it continues then it's probably about the polarity, i don't know, that's just an idea.

      Yeah, No I only did pretty much what you see in the video. I'm almost certain its the vapor though for sure. You can see once I dip the little straw in the Iodine and put it next to the CA how strong the reaction is and then as more time goes on and the vapor begins to wear off, the reaction becomes weaker and weaker so I'm pretty sure that's what is causing the reaction. The video doesn't do it justice though. I highly recommend trying the experiment yourself to see the full effect. It's really pretty interesting. Thanks for the comment.

    I've just GOTTA try this and see if I can add some different COLORS to enhance the effect!

    Contains Isoprophynol whish is a base. As you are waving it near the iso is evaporating.

      How come it doesn’t happen when using straight alcohol though? Is that a different compound in some way?

    This was a pretty neat experiment. Your *cleverly worded* replies to a certain few disgruntled comments had me cracking up. Had to subscribe.

      Yeah, That freaked me out as well. the video doesn't do it justice though and think it's worth people checking out for themselves in person. Just get a bottle of iodine and some water-thin and medium viscosity super glue and pour them both onto a surface and sit back and watch things come to life like you are some mad scientist in a basement laboratory. Haha! Well, maybe not that interesting but still fun nonetheless.

    Yup that’s some weird stuff it almost appears to be alive and trying to defend or run away or create a skin of protection weird stuff! 🤪

      Yes, it most certainly was a bit odd to watch the way it was reacting without any further stimulation from me at the end was really a pretty interesting sight to behold that's for sure.

      interestingly, Cyanoacrylate is said to been used in the military to spray on open , and large, wounds to make them not die while they are transported.

    @2:00 is it the alcohol or the idodine it's reacting to.. that bottle has 40% alcohol in it .. not pure iodine

    I thought iodine was meant to be red in color.

      I used decolorized Iodine. I thought I mention that in the clip but maybe I didn't.

    The cheapest and by far the best activator for superglue is good old simple as cheap Baking Soda just sprinkle a bit on top and it cures instantly

    • @PetesShopMakes
      @PetesShopMakes  3 роки тому +2

      You are correct. It works great as a gap filler also and because it cures so hard, it can even be sanded down smooth and painted over if need be and is very good in that aspect if you don't mind the big white globs on whatever you are working on. Since recording this video, I have actually been adding a small amount of baking soda to my alcohol spray bottle and that has hands down been the best and most closely related to a commercial activator in my opinion just with how quickly it causes the CA to cure and all that. Thank you for pointing that out and commenting for those who maybe weren't already aware of that because I failed to mention it here in this video so I appreciate that. Thanks again and Take care.

      @PetesShopMakes  4 роки тому +1

      Quite possibly might’ve been. I dont know for sure and haven’t really been able to find any other scientific hypotheses as to what sort of strange chemical reaction is taking place. Whatever it is, it certainly is bizarre to watch it as it’s transforming and doing all those weird movements and waves right right in front of your eyes like that without any further interaction with it. The camera doesn’t do it justice. It appears as if it’s alive. Really strange to say the least.

      @@skokenos Nah, never. Just wasn't sure what made you say that but I get it. I just get a lot of shit from people sometimes and I guess I can be a little jaded when it comes to certain comments and don't always pick up on sarcasm and can assume a certain tone and that they're just being a dick. So I apologize. No hard feelings. I probably would've thought the same thing myself.
