- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Movie Review - The Ghostbusters are back... kinda. The old dogs grab the proton packs for yet another last ride while the kids take center stage. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is all over the place with characters, storylines and nostalgia overload. At points, the film nails down the tone and at others, it again gets lost in the weeds. I just don't care about these Ghosbusters movies anymore but perhaps you still will. I give my thoughts.

Ghostbusters should've been one and done, the original is classic and not everything needs to become a franchise.

I think the major problem is that these entertainment companies want to boil everything down to the same bland inoffensive formula so that the majority of people will see and then forget them so they can pump out more of the same while many people have no real feelings about it one way or the other. Ya know, like they did to popular music over the years
I feel like 80-90 of new movies suck in this day and age. I believe it's due to quantity over quality, which is more of a newer trend. I would rather have 1 great movie once a month, than 100 bad movies in that period. But I know this trend will continue because everyone in the industry needs to make money, including me.

The problem is we need to preserve the cineplex industry and with that only so many types of movies will justify said existence
This is why most movies are just big budget action films: they gotta seem like an event!
They gotta make imax and them reclining seats feel like a worthy investment
There were way more movies being released in the 90s, and 90% of them were invariably better than the shite they pump out now. It's nothing to do with quantity and everything to do with the lack of talent behind and in front of the camera.
It's due to the culture being very different. They don't mesh well. Different culture breeds different cinema.
"Bustn Makes Ne Feel Nothing" is probably one of the craziest video titles I have seen in a while.
Everything was kinda okay until the chess game. Jar Jar Ghost Girl ruined everything. The library guy/ghost coming back, someone calling Peck "dickless" again, all bad...but Kumail coming down the pole in that suit of armor was baaaaaaaaad. Started okay, absolutely crashed and burned with the ghost girl.

It has its problems, sure, but I liked the way they updated the universe and characters: I like that Winston is basically heading the revival project and that Peck is the mayor and that a potential reluctant alliance is on the horizon
The biggest problem is that there’s too many characters and subplots but hey, I’d rather that than having no story at all(right JJ Abrams?)

Kumail l Nanjiani’s character definitely takes us back to the animated series, especially with the full suit of armor, sliding down the pole
George Lucas even stated tgat he had a storyline that DOD NOT INCLUDE HAN SOLO, LUKE SKYWALKER, LEIA, etc. But Disney wouldn't listen.
The first two Ghostbusters movies are slob comedies, in the tradition of ANIMAL HOUSE, STRIPES and CADDYSHACK....movies they don't make anymore. So of course, this and Afterlife suck, because they lack what made the originals....ORIGINAL.
I just saw it and thought it was OK. Better than I thought it would be. I enjoyed it. At least as good as Afterlife.

The thing is, even though it's a comedy, it should still have some genuinely scary moments and they don't know how to do that.

I feel you on the whole nostalgia craze. It's annoying; I'm tired; I don't care anymore. I will say, for some reason, Afterlife and Frozen Empire really work for me. I like the new cast of characters, and they have the right balance of the old cast. The dull humor works for me, and it's so simple to the point of working for me.
This is coming from someone who can't stand every other recent franchise-revival series (a la Star Wars, Marvel, blah blah blah zzzzzzz)
Hi Adam thanks for your review on Ghostbusters frozen empire..you are a good looking guy ❤..I like your intellectual way of portraying this movie . awesome job..I was disappointed with this movie because it wasn't funny and it was darker than the 1984 Ghostbusters..it was a horror and demoniclly disturbing. Our old Ghostbusters friends didn't put up much of a show or fight against those ghosts and seemed helpless and totally inept against ghosts . What happened to the days when the famous four saved the world and everything was ok again..the younger Ghostbuster stole the show and I feel like that monster was vanquished too easily..still Ghostbusters frozen empire gets 6/10 Jaffas from me.
I completely agree with your thoughts on Afterlife. I'll skip this sequel for now, but something tells me that my morbid curiosity will get the best of me when it hits streaming.

I think this movie would have been significantly improved if it had had a better soundtrack. There were countless scenes where the energy of the story died due to dead time between actors or transitions; it made the movie feel at least a half hour longer.
This review makes me excited to go watch the first one :)

There are too many characters and there’s point where someone becomes a ghost in a ghost trap and they walk out of it as a ghost that causes the villain to do its thing
This was infuriating to watch and made no freaking sense
Glad im not the only one to hate afterlife. I thought it was boring, stupid, member berries, and insulting to the lore. Egon being a deadbeat dad was stupid
And diverse Kids being heroes, messing with dangerous equipment....
@@miragexl007 that too. I dont care bout the diversity stuff, but i hate how any movie with horror elements (ghosts) try to be like stranger things, by having kids who own the adults and are always smarter and better than the adults. Its a lazy and stupid gimmick

Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world were the movies actually lived up to the trailers? I guess it says alot for the people creating the trailers these days... Maybe they should write the stories and produce the movies?

Watching this felt like watching the Real Gjostbusters cartoon back in thevday. I watched that cartoon a lot as a kid. Loved it. ❤ GB Frozen Empire is like watching that in a way. Has humor, and action like the cartoon did. Love the new characters. Just focus on the new characters going forward. The old cast I think is what is holding it back. I hate the new star wars trilogy meaning 7, 8 , and 9. Even George Kucas came out and stated that he hates what Fisney is doing to Star Wars.
I found it entertaining, but I didn’t think it was a very good movie. I think the general audience will enjoy it though.
I was convinced by the trailer we are going to get a serious ghostbusters film with humor mixed in here and there. As the movie went on I was waiting for ghosts and the build up of the villian. It felt like the big bag villian was rushed. In my opinion I believe we're going to get a return of the puft marshmallow man.

I would see this ONLY because Bill Murray is in it. Seeing that you hardly mentioned him (if at all) I assume his presence was forgettable so nope.
It wasn't good and very boring, Murray seems awkward here. He should have been in more of the movie for his humor to work. Should have ended with afterlife or Ghostbusters 2. I only say Afterlife cause it was a tribute to Ramis.
Come on, man. The movie was great and and had a lot of fun seeing it. I had a good time seeing it, damn it!
I'm still optimistic that I'll enjoy this, even if mildly, but I detest the mini pufts and hate that they're back again.
How about Dan and another writer doing the next film, with a director who's got a better track record with comedy and terror, maybe a European director?

The best scene in this movie is easily the first chase scene. Everything after that is either half-baked, stupid, or just bad.
I think what made the new star wars trilogy suck hard so bad was the fact that it leaned too hard on nostalgia. We really didn't need to see Luke, Leia , Han Solo etc. If we just would have gotten a new storyline, fans would have loved it

It brings us back to the galactic civil war era with tie fighters and death stars only to render the whole rebellion worthless as it kills off the main players unceremoniously and after all their work is undone

I didn't like the two they released after the original so I didn't bother with the two they released after those. I'll stick with the original and forget everything else.
I’m not getting roped in with the nostalgia bait anymore. I think the Terminator and Halloween film franchises were pretty much the nail in the coffin for me.
Big fan of the first movie. Disenchanted and frustrated with the whole series now. The last one was boring and not going to even bother with this one.
I went in with the lowest of expectations and was somehow still disappointed. This movie completely fails at everything, going as far as failing to justify its very existence. What utter garbage! Please, Sony... just stop.
If we do get another new GB folm after this, then just focus on thecbew characters and ditch Ray, Peter , and Winston. and Walter Peck.

Ghostbusters we s Frozen Rmpire really isn't all that bad as all these reviewers and critics are making it out to be.
I wanted more and still do this movie was awesome and can't wait to see more from all these characters. Just another reviewer putting down a feel good movie looking for views last time im gonna be here and only comment you'll get from me.
What this movie doesn't get is that Egon is not the main character, it's Venkman. So making a Spengler the main character is what sabotages this.

@@mikeadams7904 Being the best thing in it doesn't change my point. The character traits that made Egon is what she's about, and she's talented and pulls it off. But Ghostbusters worked because Bill Murray was a wisecracking lead who didn't take anything seriously. That is the problem. The film should be framed around a character with that persona.
It is a bad movie. They are responsible for the released ghosts, why would city be cheering.
Librarian says, “This chant released it, So they let it play.
And What was point of possessor at library, so she would get in trouble? He predicted that outcome? Ghost girl asked if it had to be her.
She releases it, parents go out of way to say it’s okay.
He doesn’t kill her, the other girl when first released, even though we see him kill a bodega guy just for the name.
He doesn’t kill any of the ghostbusters or fire master in fire station.
Ghost girl had to release bad guy and stop him in order to “move on”? What kind of f-*ed up grand plan is that?
Only the Lion part of statue moves? The statue includes base.
No back up generator? No chance of outage in NY?
And end it all with Containment unit self welding. It was utter nonsense.
I have zero interest in Frozen Empire. I still haven't seen Afterlife. Hollywood needs to get some new ideas. Ghostbusters is a product of the 1980s. It does not work in current times. Society isn't the same as it was in 1984. Attitudes toward comedy are not the same as they were in 1984. NOTHING is as it was in 1984. Leave the past in the past and focus on the future. However, if they are going to do a modern Ghostbusters, it cannot have anything from the past holding it back. That means no cameos from the original surviving actors. Have faith and let the new cast forge their own legacy instead of being constantly in the shadow of the cast that came before them.
To be honest, when Harold Ramis died, out of respect for him there should have been no further attempts at making Ghostbusters remakes/sequels. Ghostbusters 2 flopped with Ramis as part of the creative team. What made people think that additional films without him would fare better?
The ghostbusters franchise has been boring for years now…I didn’t see the last one and I’m definitely not going to see this new one
I will tell you a movie franchise that I hate is the Jyrassic World Franchise.
Jurassic World Fallen Kungdom is terrible and can't believe they are making and releasing a new one on 2025. WHY???!!!
I didn't see it yet, but I will b/c of AMC movie pass. As a movie critic and as folks in this community I think we get burnt out faster than the ordinary Joe who sees a few movies annually. I get why this nostalgia BS is getting to you and it would get to me as well after a certain point, but I do believe average movie goers may like this okay, but again, I didn't see it yet.

Whoever made this movie deserves a super flop performance at the box office because they've wasted the audience's time and money. This movie makes no sense from start to finish, is extremely boring, the casting is ridiculous, the writing and storytelling is kindergarten. I can give you so many plot holes! Ghostbusters are the reason why the villain is unleashed into the world, they catch it and then the world they live in is so dumb that it ends up celebrating Ghostbusters because people think they saved the world. It's asinine! I am speechless!

@@mitchellmacbeth9368 the entire plot of the ghost girl was that she was using Phoebe by manipulating her emotions and friends don’t gaze into each other’s eyes. This was pure put a chick in it and make her lame and gay
@@mitchellmacbeth9368 also, the ghost character made no sense because one of her plot points was that she had an object. An object that magically disappeared every time she did. But then, at the end, it’s a physical object that creates real fire for the other guy. makes no sense. They could’ve easily written her out of the story and have literally any other ghost pick up the cylinder. Phoebe, turning into a ghost made no sense, because Phoebe herself already brought up that people can be possessed so all the bad guy had to do is tell a ghost to possess a person. It also would’ve given more weight to the fire dude if he was younger around her age, and he was made an orphan by his grandmother’s passing. That would’ve set the stage for the two vulnerable characters to find each other naturally.
