Great doc, Tom is a treasure! I could listen to Tom talk wrestling history all day, he always gives it a certain gravitas and his humor is unmatched. Thank you all for everything you do.
I actually saw the Hart vs Michaels ladder match live, it was at a TV taping (Wrestling Challenge, I think) in my hometown of Portland, ME. I was only 10 at the time and it was my first live wrestling show so I had no idea I was witnessing history (or at least WWE history) until years later. The rest of the card was pretty good too as I recall, Bret actually defended the IC title twice that day (the other match was against longtime Fed jobber Bob Bradley) and there was a tag match that saw Ric Flair & the Berzerker take on Randy Savage & the Undertaker.
I always thought Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels did the first ladder match at an untelevised show. I didn’t know ladder matches started back in the 70’s.
Wwe, try to frame it like they are responsible for the first ladder match. Vince was a massive revisionist when it came to wrestling history, especially when it came to acknowledging stuff that happened outside wwe.
@@jimbo_1312 the issue is that a thousand people were in attendance for those shows. They weren’t televised and the only record are photos and the worst home recordings you’ve ever seen.
Someone eventually did some research on the Disco Ladder match . I watched it way back in 1987 . Btw it's also available on UA-cam as a stand alone video .
The dudley boyz, Edge & Christian and Hardy Boyz defined the ladder matches back in the late 90s & 2000s. They were Some of the best ladder matches. Hands down
They defined what? You know a large part of the reason they came up with a special name for the match type was because it wasn't congruous with the general much type that did not involve tag teams or three sides tour match nevermind a tag team match with three sides to it
Cool info. For the not so caught up fans. you should tell them which Kendo Nagasaski it was (it gets confusing for some). And the Dusty/Tully match was great and just what the NWA audiences wanted and enjoyed instead of the cartoon circus of the wwf.
The video is incomplete. At the start of the first match, we've got this "ladder". Where did the "Ladder" come from? What's the backstory? Was it invented for the match? If not, what was it doing in Canada for the first match? Do all Canadians have ladders? How did the wrestlers learn to use it if they weren't from Canada? Not telling us what a Ladder is is like telling the story of the NWO without saying where Nash and Hash came from. Like we're supposed to believe this "ladder" appeared from nowhere. At least you tell us that Brian Gerwertz invented the "briefcase" for Money in the Bank, although I have no idea why he came up with that name. But drug lords like Gerwertz's "briefcase" idea since they use it to store money and coke.
Aluminum and Aluminium are both correct. The discoverer of the metal named it alumina in 1809 and renamed it aluminum in 1812. However, a year earlier a British scientist reviewed his work and called it aluminium. It was officially called aluminum in 1925, but in 1990 it was determined that it would be called aluminium internationally. So both are correct and both are wrong.
🤣 I watched that match in person when I was 8.. Bob Leonard is my uncle. I'm born raised live in Regina. You got prize above ring wrong date as Stampede was doing get the coal miners glove win match get to beat other guy five minutes amd win a grand.
Tom, Tom, Tom. It's not regeena. It's Regina. The closer you get to making it sound like vagina, the more correct it is. Unless you do say vageena, in that case... Carry on I guess.

Videos like this are why I have nothing but love for Cultaholic. Such detailed, interesting work.
Shout out to Beth Phoenix & Katie Lea for having the first women's ladder match under the wwe banner in OVW 2005
I watch the match on the the wwe ladder match 2 DVD and it was a banger!
I always thought Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels did the first ladder match at an untelevised show. I didn’t know ladder matches started back in the 70’s.
Bret and Shawn had the first Ladder Match in WWf history this is available on UA-cam and VHS tape Smack Em and Whack Em .
Wwe, try to frame it like they are responsible for the first ladder match. Vince was a massive revisionist when it came to wrestling history, especially when it came to acknowledging stuff that happened outside wwe.
The more you know...also keyword being "WWE" history. As the guy above me said, McMahon was ALWAYS a HUGE revisionist.

@@thebigragu9952 As I said the Bret v Shawn ladder match is on Smack Em and Whack Em this was produced by Coliseum Home Video .
Love it Tom Manitoba boy here and I I’ve it when Regina isn’t pronounced re-ji-na. But jokes aside I love this channels content
When I heard Tom's voice ring in, I just started preparing for excellent wordplay.
"Or aluminum, if you're wrong" gods I love Tom

Reg-EYE-na, Saskatchewan. Seems everyone outside Canada gets that one messed up.
Love the "If you're wrong" remark. More of these kinds of videos from Tom please!
I'm surprised you mentioned DDT without mentioning a ladder has been a champion in that company!
Christian was also in the WM21 ladder match
This was really good. I've been a fan for many years, and I never knew half this stuff. Great job, guys!
Love these History's Of!
Regina is pronounced like Vagina. Love you Tom great vid!
No mention of DDT's greatest Ironman champion - the ladder! It fell on Gorgeous Matsuno and became champion.
More than that, the ladder was a multi-time champion, and also successfully defended its championship.
Thanks!
Ugh, hearing you say my City name like that hurt. Regina, said like Vagina, but with an R. We're the city that rhymes with fun.
This guy is a good narrator! The delivery on “penchant” 👌
The stairway to hell match from ECW is basically an object on a poll match
Great video Mr. Campbell!
pls do the history of the nwa
I'm from Manitoba Canada and I think it's funny when people from other countries mispronounce a name of a city such as Regina (Re gi na).
I always tell people that it’s like vagina but with an re on the front
@@bluenosegamer9175 🤣 or as Deadpool says it rhymes with fun !
Col. DeBeers was a great heel
His feud with Big Scott Hall was one of my favorites in the AWA
I knew the ladder match was a thing in the 80s, I never knew it went that far back in time. Thanks for the fascinating history lesson.
Wow! Never knew there was a white Big Daddy V, and he was the first.
Big Daddy Siki vs Jake Roberts wasn't mentioned? Where they used a normal ladder rather than the step ladder.
THANK YOU GUYS!
Yes! The Exploding Nipple ladder match from StrangleMania 2!
Perfect way to start my Sunday Morning
History of barbed wire in wrestling
flair & doink in a deadly ladder match.

Love content like this. More like it.
Another great DDT ladder fact: A ladder has won the Ironman heavymetalweight championship
It’s pronounced reg-I-na, rhyming with China
Love this documentary
Oooh my favourite stipulation!
This is great, thanks Tom & everyone @ Cultaholic
If you think 70s ladder matches are crazy
1950s Barbed wire cage matches
9:37 LMFAO
I knew about stampede wrestling having ladder matches it’s on a WWE dvd
I don't like Sammy Guevara but his cutter to Cody is my second favourite ladder spot ever, only behind Edge spearing Jeff
Regina is the city that rhymes with fun
Surprised the Custody of Dominick Ladder Match wasn’t mentioned
History about southern wrestling would be grand, the amount of stuff that part of America covers with rasslin is just to big to ignore.
Just coming in to say Regina is pronounced like vagina, not like the name Regina, and that i didn't know that the paint roller was Canadian lol
Can you do a casket match and hell in a cell please
Tom Campbell is great at what he does.
Also Cultaholic editors are great at what they do.
08:48: Try telling that to Randy Savage.
Eddy vs Rey for custody of a child ladder match was missed
Shawn Michaels is the Goat!
"Ra-geee- nah" lol.
Where's that Migraine video?! 🤘
Just type in Disco Ladder on UA-cam . I watched it on VHS way back in the 80's .
The cole miners glove match you mean
"regeena" Saskatchewan is certainly a way to pronounce that.

Why the heck was a ceramic duck put up in a ladder match? What did the winner do with it once he won it?

Why can’t anyone say Ontario right
Sky walkers match????
Haha I don’t think you mispronounced EVERY single Canadian city and province. Please try again.
Jesus
Any chance of pronouncing “Ontario” correctly?! 😮
So thats why it was money in the bank cause before there is a money involved
It’s probably already been commented but it’s pronounced “ree-jai-na” the same way you’d “Gina” would be pronounced in Angina or Vagina.
Ooo. Mentioning that basketball was created by a Canadian is a sure way to turn off some of your American viewers.
Christian is not in the WWE Hall of Fame
Lol Regina
You mispronounced Regina. It's kind of like vagina with an R. I'm not joking. It's known as the city that rhymes with fun.
