Featured revisions for the StingRay Special include an enhanced contour that is rounded for more comfort in any playing position, a sculpted neck joint for uninhibited upper fret access to all 22 stainless steel frets, and lightweight aluminum hardware providing a lighter, more balanced instrument. The new and improved StingRay electronics feature powerful neodymium magnets for higher output and a new 18-volt 3-Band preamp for extra clean headroom without clipping. Solid roadworthy construction, elegant oval pickguard, 3+1 tuning key configuration (SR4)/ 4+1 tuning key configuration (SR5), and the ever popular Music Man humbucker, all together produce a look, feel and sound that is remarkably unmistakable.
I find it awesome that the CEO of the company that makes some of the best basses (if not the best basses) is an amazing bassist himself. I enjoy watching these videos with Sterling Ball, I imagine I couldn't say the same about a lot of people who own instrument companies.
Only him and prs I think...
@@0megalul309 you are right on that sir!
Just watched a doc showing Sterling actually designed the Stingray with Leo Fender. He tested the protos on gigs in Southern CA in Mid-Late 70's. Kind of saying what you said but the man is all about the bass and the company. The passion is still there after all these years.
The Stingray is still the most interesting and exciting bass tone I’ve ever heard.
I own two Stingrays. A 4 & 5 string. My 4 I’ve had since 97. I was lucky to have my dream bass at a young age. Travelled to USA from UK. Brought it back with me and I would never sell it!! Ever! Still has the Ernie Ball sticker I put on it at that shop. I will always play Stingrays. Bold statement but true. I’d have been a perfect EB employee. Amazing job guys.
i've been playing them since 1981, i have a 79 a 2000 SR5 and a 2001 sterling fretless
Very good demonstration Stirling! Nice to see the Man behind the product has got good chops. I own two of your instruments and am much more than happy with them!
I couldn't agree more. And its Sterling by the way. His name is in the title and on the basses. Lol
I LOVE that classic tone!
He has a beautiful right-hand technique. Nice sounding bass, of course.
just bought one, totally amazed by its sounds, this special version tops the lot
My all time favorite basses and company. Music man basses can do so much, that's why I own one.
I have two Sterling basses. Both sound impeccable. One's a short scale with a passive pickup which sounds stellar
Its got the rumbly lows of the 70s era and the punchy highs of the 90s era. Beefiest bass I’ve heard. Frikkin awesome man
Sterling could convince me to buy a bag of chips for 5k with how good he is at reviewing basses
great tone, both instrument and player!
I love jazz basses but nothing can face this tone
I prefer these style of pickups just based on the comfort of the thumb on them.
Great work, I think you guys nailed it!
Sounds sick! Great vid. I need to add to my collection. My favorite basses: G&L L-2000, Fender Jazz, and I gotta have a Stingray.
Fantastic sound... calling Rocket Music tomorrow to place my order!
this is an amazing PERFECT guitar! I have it and it worths every dollar.
He got some chops!
This is no hype - these basses are really, really special. It feels like a vintage instrument in your hands and the neck has a solidness like none other. He's not kidding about not being afraid to dime or zero the controls. It all sounds great. Oh, plus my 5 string is 8 lbs 4 oz. That's about two pounds lighter than the previous SR5. I've played it for 4 hours straight with no back / shoulder ache at all. If you're looking for a bass, try one of these before pulling the trigger. You'll be happy you did.
Got one a year or so back and agree - like the Special much better than the first Stingray5 I had.
Sterling Ball = Albert Lee´s old bud and bass player
Can you make it left-handed? I would love one please
Such a cool Guy.
does anyone know what tune he is playing in the beginning?
Yeah. Big Poppa knows how to play 'em. 😎
I want one. I that exact finish.
Sterling Rules
Could you please tell me what model this bass is so I can find it in Europe?
my band claims it but I don't see it
Close your eyes, he sounds like Chris Farley
Man. I wanna buy one of those things and I'm not even a bass player!
Is there a Bernie Ball in the family?
Is the preamp same on the 5 string model?
do they cut through the mix as easy as the 2 band classic rays`??
I love MM Stingrays. I own three of them (4 string, 5 string, 5 string Fretless). But ... this instrumet is good as is. Let the legend be legend and stop all these "2014 special edition" that nobody cares about anyways. Nobody needed the "New Coke".
Quit teasing us with those bass amps!
2 bands 70s sounded better...aka Louis Johnson..
I would sell my mother to afford one of them!!!
Please bring back the 2018 colors. The 2021 colors are terrible.
Gigantic, heavy, super-trebly turds.
The biggest problem with a lot of people viz a viz the Stingray or Sterling is they don't know how to set the EQ properly.
