2009 VW Tiguan. Billed by Volkswagen as the GTI of compact SUVS, the sporty Tiguan offers roughly the same compact dimensions and fuel economy as the industry leading Honda CR-V, but in a package that is decidedly more sporty and upscale. While the Tiguan offers features unavailable on the CR-V, such as a manual transmission and a massive full-cabin glass panel sunroof, it also costs significantly more. In fact for the price of the entry-level frontwheel-drive Tiguan, consumers could pick up a nicely equipped CR-V EX with all-wheel drive. Still, the 200-horsepower turbocharged Volkswagen Tiguan has many desirable features, including a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system capable of real off-road adventures. How can you compare a 5 year resale value to a vehicle that has not been out for 5 years? You can't go wrong with this vehicle. Just added one to the family. I love it almost as much as my GTI.

i like the sunroof and simple but attractive styling, i just wish a tdi was available

I am interested in this SUV, I just wanna know what you guys think, is it too small. I just don't get the feeling that it's an SUV, I mean it looks like a car that was just lifted too much.
Gas is not going to go down. In the end, between driving more fuel efficient vehicles and higher gas prices, we will end up paying the same at the pump.

VW are good with styling and handling . Too bad I can not say about their high pricing and high , reliability, or high car maintanence.
@sexyboi142 Well, the first gen had a very good 4WD system, I have one.....the current generation is more for the city....the 4WD system is a little bit dumb: it doesnt distribute enough power to the non spining wheels. That 4WD system is good for slippery or wet roads, but for off roading, is not good.
I dont if in US is the same, but in other countries, there is a Tiguan Track n' Field, with really good 4WD system for some serious off roading, and the Style, with a Crossover AWD system.
For it's price I think of this as VW's XC70 they have a lot of the same ideas but the Volvo is just a tad more premium.

@tabamoura My apologies to you. I wonder if the confusion comes from differences between the UK and USA. In the UK a GTi is a fast Golf (Rabbit in some countries?) and is never classed with the 4WD Tiguan. I do know the chassis of a Tiguan is also stronger than the standard Golf. The main thing is that the Tiguan is a completely different vehicle in so many respects to a GTi - as it is known in the UK. Sorry if I was rather harsh in my first comment.
The Tiguan seems to be a nice vehicle, but I'd still rather have a Touareg, it's just so much more capable.
Do all Tiguan come with 6 airbags
does it have xenon lights or normal lights??

@wtrdogg20 the CRV is a capable off roader (1st gen) and the current gen if it has a propper lift and tires
The Q7 is beautiful and comes with a V8 supercharged engine.

I don't understand why this guy starts off by stating it's a GTi. I've not seen any literature that advertises it as such. Obviously it's not a GTi - it's a SUV!

Did you hear it? "a traction system for real off road adventures"...that is what this car can do than all others cant. (CRV, Rav4, Tucson, etc). If you pay for this car, you will be well rewarded, because it will be more than a simple grocery getter.
The only SUV that can be a real contender or match to the Tiguan is the Subaru Forester.

@wtrdogg20 Well Honda should give the next gen CRV the SH-AWD system with a few off roading goodies so it will be a proper sucessor to the first gen. They still look capable but looks are decieving. Im not sure if i've heard of the Tiguan Track n' Field
but its platform is from GTi !
VW must be crazy to think that someone will pay $38,000 for a turbo Escape! No wonder the auto market is down!
My VW Tiguan. Love this car but the damn gas cap cover sucks! Seems like I run into an issue with this car every year.
My other car is a Hyundai Genesis. 0 Problems at 100,000 miles. Bought it used back in 2008.

I love my Black Tiguan Sport & Style, my brother has CRV, andI would take my Tiguan over it ANY Day.
Toyota is reliable, but dated, and handles poorly.
German is german.As a romanian with money I'd buy a Tiguan.As a romanian with more money I'd buy a BMW X6 ( not a Bunch of Money Wasted ).As a present romanian, I only could afford a romanian Dacia Logan by Renault, if I work hard enough for 2 years :D

i dont think quality was that good a few yrs back. I have a 2004 Golf and the latest Golf feels much better quality.

How that idiot from KBB can compare this REAL SUV WITH REAL OFF ROAD CAPABILITIES with a crappy CR-V?. Everybody know the CR-V has the worst 4WD system and the Tiguan can go almost everywhere. As you noted it, the video was always in urban conditions, it never showed the power it has off road (specially when it move the car with just one wheel traction). I will never buy an overpriced RAV4 or a SUV wannabe CR-V over the Tiguan. The Forester is the only one that can compete. Diesel Tiguan FTW!
this car's so ugly, its so badly proportioned, the back looks like a giant laundry tub and the hood is far to long in relation to the cabin, its such a geeky looking car in my opinion.
Americans should learn from the Brits on how to film interesting car reviews. This is just a dull stats reading
