you could potentially fully utilize quad slot if AMD allowed unlock of the 7900xtx actually, or if you just use an EVC, or custom bios
The silicon can push 1GHZ of stock frequencies, upwards of 3400-3500mhz, and regularly 3300-3400 in many games if its a good sample.
This leads in some loads that it'll hit 700-800w+, and in enthusiast setups as my own, I've pushed 1kW through the gpu before in 3dmark tse, and furmark.
Ofc pushing this much power is a bad look for AMD, where a 4090 sips like 400w for same load, and takes 7900xtx around 750w to get even in some raster loads.
(I use an EVC, but some people use Custom bios flashed which lets you push almost 600w I believe)
can we see the full zune rant? like a short series called gamers tangents?
actually amd got what they deserve for releasing 0 progress GPUs to boost obsolete consoles' chips sales and choosing not to actually compete against nv. in the perfect world the drop would be 100% as nobody should buy 0 progress hardware. same goes for nv & intel
AMD cut corners whre they shouldnt have as a result they are playing damage control w gdr6 in their GPUS instead of 7 serves them right to see where they are. i dont feel much pity 4 team red right now.

I've been a developer in the games industry for 12 years. From the beginning of my career I've been told and it's been widely understood that you should always be searching for your next gig even if you've just landed a new one. Quarterly layoffs have been normalized for decades. It's only that this most recent bout of them is supremely more aggressive than other points in history. Most game industry jobs nowadays are either contract, or outsourced. They typically last from 6 months to 2 years. If you're lucky enough to be an employee the longest I've seen someone stay at a company is maybe 7 years but those are usually seniors and leads.
There is no longevity. There is no security. There is no stability. It's been this way for quite some time but it's worse than ever before.
Health insurance must be a nightmare (moreso than usual).
And the older you get and the bigger the gaps are on your resume due to these cuts the less likely you are to be hired. Cool world.
@@hanspecans I wonder if this has anything to do with the reason why nearly all American games are complete shit these days and why it's literally mostly just Eastern Europeans that are making great games these days. I knew it had something to do with the fucked up corporate culture. I really hope Poland, Russia, and Ukraine isn't so stupid as to copy us. The States is a failing game industry.
@@drek9k2most definitely. The ones crushing gaming continue to “fail upwards”. Devs that bust their asses on shitty exec ideas get the shaft but these white collar criminals have found their niche. Who would’ve thought we’d need better regulatory laws for the gaming industry.
I’ve been dealing with cyclical layoffs since 1994. My advice: be a contractor, not an employee; learn quickly and negotiate cleverly; reverse the direction of screwing.
Dude I loved my Zune. Being able to share songs with people over Bluetooth or whatever. It was limited but still really cool and this was 2009
Amazing software behind some decent good looking hardware. It was just late to the party.
I fucking miss my Zune. I got a gen 1 in 2006 right out of boot camp. Thing lasted through service in Iraq, Afghanistan, at sea all over the globe, hundreds of hours on a motorcycle, two battery replacements, and a drive swap. Finally kicked the bucket in 2014 with a broken screen.

I had my eyes on that, when it became clear that getting a digital player might be a thing I had to do... Tragically I had just accidentally found myself with good headphones, I got them on a whim, realized I couldn't go back.. and, CD players had some for the standard of quality they hadn't quite been able to buck yet, especially if you had an older one.. so.. yeah let's just say I missed the train.
Previously would have been the creative one, and by the time the zune was being attempted to be attempted to be a thing, I was a huge fan of the way Microsoft did WMA2 and all of the streaming stuff they were doing around the Seattle area..
Still would have probably quite been happy with the purchase but, unfortunately all of that seemed to die overnight.. I really don't know what it was, it could have been something at the University of Washington, could have been Microsoft or whatever but.. I saw a bunch of places just basically dropped their archives, drop streaming, or switched MP3 etc.. Just like overnight, and never talk about the previous again like it had never existed..
Man for the time that was incredible compression for music. Apple would advertise its 64K and 96K compression rate rate as a CD quality thing.. Microsoft's 96K, it wasn't exactly there, but it was close.. and it was close in the ways that mattered most.
Granited this would no longer be a problem by the arrival of 4G, and the smartphone thingy... Apple users were still never going to actually understand what reality was, so quality didn't really matter.. and the rest of the interweb would be able to afford a higher a bit rate, at a loss of quality.. or they would just basically do what they had always done, which was use mP3 prior.
Eventually yeah, the video compression folks would be the ones to make the next steps and those would oddly enough are only just getting implemented just now for a lot of different audio streams..
And this is of course in the wake of things like streaming services that use flac and higher bit rate MP3s, tidal apparently uses the power of origami, which they can't talk about, cuz it's a super secret! And the enshification is complete!
Also apparently Spotify has achieved basic level of everyone else's quality that they had over a decade ago.. I don't know what the format is though.. probably flac, and I'm sure they screw it up somehow.. like they screwed up their mp3s to somehow be worse than everyone else's.
It has occurred to me that a lot of this is a very very niche area of things, that a lot of people probably don't even comprehend existence of, especially involving radio streaming back in the day lol.. and internet radio that was almost killed overnight by the RCaa which set up the foundation for a lot of the BS we deal with nowadays!
And I'm jumping all over the place with it but I'm going to leave it and post it anyways because fuck it who cares lol..
Everything is is one step forward two-step sideways and one step into some dog shit or something so you might be making progress but it's always going to feel a little worse. And usually sound terrible, unless people get used to it which I guess is what they're counting on.. next thing you know the person that didn't get used to it, thanks everything sounds like shit, cuz everybody else is broken now.
Buying stuff and not knowing why .. I feel you MS.
412. Most harmful of all is the message that Microsoft's actions have conveyed to every enterprise with the potential to innovate in the computer industry. Through its conduct toward Netscape, IBM, Compaq, Intel, and others, Microsoft has demonstrated that it will use its prodigious market power and immense profits to harm any firm that insists on pursuing initiatives that could intensify competition against one of Microsoft's core products. Microsoft's past success in hurting such companies and stifling innovation deters investment in technologies and businesses that exhibit the potential to threaten Microsoft. The ultimate result is that some innovations that would truly benefit consumers never occur for the sole reason that they do not coincide with Microsoft's self-interest.

It's no mystery. Microsoft bought the IP, not the people. They bought training material for AI, not game studios. If for some reason they need game devs later, they'll just buy more studios. At the scale of a large tech company, people are fungible.
Non fungible people coming to a block chain near you.

I loved my zune. Had one of the “blackest” headphone outputs of any media player. Even on my super sensitive custom IEMs, it had no static or noise of any kind.
I was so disappointed when my dad got me a zune when I was like 11, I told him I wanted an iPod lol, I didn't realize until later after using my friends iPod that the zune was honestly better quality, my dad passed away and I realized after seeing ur comment I never mentioned that to him and thanked him... Damn...

@@NeonValleyswhy do people always talk about their dead parents in UA-cam comments? Truly a mystery.
Seemingly the original ps1 is legendary for having little signal noise on the audio. It's funny how the best audio stuff is only ever really acknowledged historically.
Lol Zune actually put decent hardware into their media player.
iPods have always been pretty trash quality audio in my experience, but honestly I never knew that until much later in life once I had access to actually good sound quality.
Going back to the old kit for comparison was very eye opening
Acquire-fire is how you remove competition from the market.
Definitely true. The one I was thinking of (I think) is "talent hoarding." Not sure if it has a formal name or if that is the name. Specifically, the concept of hiring people to basically prevent them from being hired by a competitor.
Yep. It takes a lot more capital to restart competition. Easy way to smash potential issues. But giben they bought a lot of these studios as a bundle, they most likely didnt exactly WANT a lot of the studios compared to Bethesda Softworks, Zenimax Online, etc
The Nokia effect.
agree, along with IP hoarding which are worth far more than the studio's were.
we live in a crony capitalist nightmare of backroom monpolies. As long as its a conglomerate and not a single company (and bribe officials through lobbying) its okay!
With the gaming industry dropping such quadruple A turds on us I can't imagine why no one is upgrading or buying consoles.

That hard cut as you were waxing poetic about the Zune was delightful
Truly a man of culture. The Zune really was a underrated. It was way better than the ipod. The ability to play any music format and the Zune player was way more intuitive.
Microsoft never sticks with their products long to see it to fruition. The Zune and Windows Phones would be awesome now.
Windows UWP sucks
Indeed. I had the Zune HD, my brother had the older Zune Halo Edition, that one was built like a tank. IIRC at the time Zune's UI and desktop app were better, faster and prettier than iTunes. Later iTunes sorta copied the desktop apps layout with Album art etc. Also the Nokia/Microsoft phones had amazing cameras. Sad they didn't support any of it for long.

The world we live in where making a Billion dollars is struggling...
Nothing like a 3 trillion dollar company closing small game companies they paid for.
IKR. Literally the biggest company on the planet (by market cap).
The perceived value of a company is basically a lie, but also they're doing this to remove competition nothing more. Some countries are really jacking up AMD prices for whatever reason, like here in Brazil they are selling the 7900 gre for over 800 dollars... A card that is somewhat similar or a little better than a 4070 super which costs 100+ less dollars. The whole 7000 series are being sold overpriced and people are still opting for 6000 series because of that.
ooof! Is it that different there? How about the price of a 7900 XTX vs. a 4080 Super there? Those two theoretically should be pretty close. Curious what it's like in other regions!
Most of the 6000 series make much more sense than 7000 if you can find one.
I have noticed this in Australia as well, the retail is much higher than would expect for the conversion rate compared to NVIDIA cards. GRE is $550 USD so should be $830-$850 to AUD. Cheapest is $900 and this only just came down from $930. Meanwhile NVIDIA cards are all within $5 of pricing. And on the lower tier AMD cards the margin is even worse for consumers.
yeah the 6700 is a third of the price and does everything you need
@@GamersNexus 7900xtx is around 1200 dollars in Brazil and the 4080 super is like 1500-1600
I was not expecting a rant on the Zune that kicked in like the LOTR aviation mechanic but I'm here for it!
I loved my Zune! The only reason it got retired is a lack of stereo integration.
It's still kicking around somewhere... I even upgraded the 1.8" hard drive 😂
I do not understand how AMD doesn't want to release a good $200 GPU... Like RX 580 that is still their most popular card... Seriously, Intel is doing better "AMD-like" GPU strategy than AMD itself.
The A750 when it was $180 for a little bit was pretty insane. That was some serious old-AMD strategy!
6600 is their $200 card and it's really not that big of a jump from a 580. Still 8gb

That's the complaint......
Yea if they sold a 16 GB ~$250 7800 XT or 4070 equivalent then they'd be really selling GPUs
Most likely limted waiver supply. (Nvidia and other giants are taking almost everything)They have to choose early on what they want to focus on. And 200 usd gpu just doesn't make money when taking into account inflation and higher waiver prices. 200 usd gpu are in practice dead.

Rockstar announced an announcement for a teaser (which if we're honest is just a theatrical announcement) for gta6. Thats my worst offender by far
They knew they have to do something before investor meeting and start of mass production that would inevitably lead to leaks (and some additional specs really got leaked shortly after). And this announcement of announcement definitely is.. something.

Another I've heard is "acquihire".
What talent? You seen the past decades games??
I absolutely DO NOT get why people don't buy more AMD GPUs. Here in Sweden I bought an RX6800 for the same price as a RTX3060Ti. I mean, not even the "nvidia is better at RT" holds true in that popular mid-tier segment. But people still seem to prefer nvidia, even if you get 20-30% more performance for the same money going with AMD.
Drivers, mostly.

I appreciate that you didn't announce the announcement of Nintendo's new announcement before announcing said announcement of the announcement's announcement.
Man that Apple ipad pro commercial really made Japan angry, and I can say destroying so many useful items wasn't pleasant and I'm not even a "creative".
Yeah, I think some of that (probably a lot of it) comes from creatives who are feeling a little assaulted by AI and new tech right now. I know anytime I see someone destroying a musical instrument, I get a little bent. We all understand the idea they were tying to get across, but it still felt a little sinister.
It *is* sinister. The "positive" spin is "our goal is that your art form with centuries of tradition and years of training will not interest anyone".
A mask-off moment by a bunch of out-of-touch Silicon Valley trust fund babies? Say it ain't so!
But it's nothing destroyed there.. it was only a CGI.. or can you tell me where can i buy an emoji with that poping eye from the end of the video..? It's not real thing, just an animation...
They could have reverse the idea: opened up an iPad and zones in to see microscopic instruments, paints, sculptures and all those goodies inside the iPad. Portrays the same idea, and they could have been creative about it instead of destructive.
I made do with the Zune HD because it was more affordable than the iPod and it had a better sound chip since Apple at the time moved away from Wolfson DACs and went with the mid range Cirrus chips. The Zune HD had a bit more features that I actually used. I also had a Cowon D2 and iRiver Clix 2.

AMD prices are amazing.
They just need to improve their 3d rendering performance for Blender, and Autodesk Maya.

@@rocstarang5747 one of my co workers had a nextel windows phone. I wanted one so bad but it was extremely expensive. Like one of the first $500+ phones.
@22:53 some smooth references to Nirvana songs and albums. 👍🏼
I loved my Zune, still have it and last I checked it still works.
If AMD limits themselves to $500-700 GPUs at the top, I wouldn't mind too much.
FR. Nvidia started this with their $1500-2000 price tag shenanigans.
I think if AMD limited itself to around $700 in the top end range (which I don't see them doing this) then NVidia will likely sell you less for more money. If AMD has nothing to compete with the 80 series and 90 series then Nvidia would have no reason not to price those cards based on pricing for professional hardware.
The RX8000 series is said to only go up to something like 8800 or 8800 XT though it is said that the 9000 series will have higher end cards.
It would almost be like the good old times all over again!
@@doc7000 Even if Nvidia increase their prices they will still destroy AMD sales
@@doc7000 Yep you write it before me. Monopoly dont work it always drop ball somewhere because they can and gauge the price. You may not like and buy AMD cards but you want them be around and kicking otherwise nvidia will just hold you hostage and like you said sell you less for more. I remember old times when government axed Microsoft and for good reason but lobbying is too strong so nobody want to use antimonopoly laws again and they should there are many corporations that are deforming market and need trimming. Its ironic that people who always preach about free market let it get captured, deformed and manipulated until something broke and then are "surprised" what happen.
Drop the AMD GPU price by 20% and I'm sure sales will increase. Every PC gamer is sick and tired of GPU prices across the board. I finally broke down and bought a 7800XT a few months back and I still have a bad taste in my mouth concerning the price I paid for it.
Same. I'm building a new PC and waiting for (on sale) price of 7900xtx to hit 750 to buy
Why would they lower prices when people like you are still willing to pay them.
Couldn't agree more. AMD isn't in the position to price match nvidia, AMD GPUs as a whole has far less selling points and their GPU drivers are notoriously bad
@@evertchin To be honest, nvidia drivers are worse, and nvidia is based on gimmicks like raytracing - technology from the 90s that back then got dropped because it gives very little advantage for very high cost, useful only in eye-candy games and nothing else.
@@hubertnnn nope you are full of bullshits
I had the same left joy stick issues, had to send it in for warrantee, all good now
Enjoyed the recent announcement regarding the announced announcement, indicating the announcement will be announced after the initial announcement.
10:58 okay, now we need a Zune retrospective.
10:46 It really is crazy how good yet how maligned the Zune was. I had three of them (through upgrading; none of them broke), and I prefer all three of them over any iPod.
Such an underappreciated piece of tech
While I don't prefer them over an ipod, especially Classic, is was a solid product with a unique software offering.
Who edited this?! I wanted to hear more why the Zune was woefully
Great content as always guys!
found out my graphics card power connectors weren't connected all the way in but they are pushed in properly now but need some time to check if out, it is likely to melt coz it's Radeon stuff
absolutely made my day with the nirvana wordplay xD.
I'd take the Zune too. The Zune was dope. I still use my Halo 3 Zune, and the Zune software still works with newer Windows Operating Systems.
Oddly I got a Zune from someone at a Halo 3 launch party. They traded it to me for paying their pre-order. :P
Hi Steve, please make a review video on the Zune. Thanks, Steve.
10:53 The Zune was woefully underappreciated and was superior in pretty much every way to the icrappods.
Authorities need to investigate the SSD industry, we haven't seen significant capacity increases for years while prices remain suspiciously high.
Every time prices fall micron and western digital claim some fire or accident messed up their production.
I just want the storage I paid for
Is that so? Got my first SSD in 2013 (240GB). the price i paid for it back then now can get me two 2TB Nvme gen 3.
Consumer hasn't. Enterprise has.
@@arenzricodexd4409 I still remember the days when 16GB USB drives costed as much as 512GB+ costs now.
I mean the 7900XTX is still 1k, not suprised. Prices would've dropped by now normally.
Here's hoping.
I got the rx7900xtx it is a hell of a beast, I can even play at 8k for some games, I have no idea why people don't buy it, it costs half of the 4090 where I live
Ive been seeing em under 900 like the powercolor hellhound etc
Am good@@eltonmsn
Saw the red devil for that price but only for a day maybe a pricing error on amazon
With you on the Zune brother, I miss the heck outta mine...
XFX's 7900XTX already takes up 4 slots because of the retention bracket it comes with has to be screwed in to the 2 adjacent slots next to the card.
In Norway the difference between a RX 7900XTX and 4080 Super is around 100$ favouring AMD. That also is the same for RTX 4070 Ti Super and RX 7900 XT.
If there is only a 100$ difference between AMD and NVIDIA then most people will go NVIDIA I believe.
thats how it is in the us as well
That $100 Nvidia premium pays for DLSS and RTX performance so it's typically a no brainer for most people. FSR needs to catch up badly or AMD need to price aggressively low with top tier rasterisation powerhouses
@@capablanc Yep that's why I went nvidia.. I always enable RT in games nowadays.
Also for you EU people, the 4080 12GB SUPER 16GB uses like, 100W irl less than the 7900xt. After a year or two with high power prices, the overall price is basically the same. I don’t understand how AMD can sell cards for that close of a price over there.
@@capablanc Not to mention, the 4080 beats the 7900 XTX in efficiency and cooling. It truly is worth at least $200 more than the 7900 XTX (although neither were worth launch MSRP).

I loved my gen 1 30gb zune. I think its still in a box some where, last time i found it a year or two ago it still worked and held a charge even. Now i need to go find it and play that weird tile spinning game on it lol
Steve: "There's a word for that"
Me: "Monopolising? Poaching?"
Oh my god, the Nirvana song title drops into that bit without a blink was slick as hell - very well done 😎👍🔥🔥🔥
Also, I'll be waiting for the Phoenix Nirvana Brawndo edition - the frame mutilator edition 🤣
I need a flowchart to follow the announcement announcements. Can you make one for me Steve?
The announcement squared (or even cubed) is a very common thing in Japan, the government often does it to test the waters so they can go back or repackage the shit in ways that will create less blowback.
I had a Zune HD. Was one of my favorite purpose-focused portable music players. BTW after a long day of work this gave me some much appreciated de-stressing laughs.
Thanks Steve!™
Well crap. I was considering going team red for my next GPU, but if they're giving up on the mid to high end cards then that doesn't bode well for their driver support of current gen cards.
UA-cam needs to implement a feature in which I can like the video multiple times at multiple different timestamps, because wow this was a good one!
The zune was amazing when I had one. It did everything I needed from an mp3 player. RIP zune.
Brown Zune
When the 4070 Ti came out and Jensen wanted me to sell a kidney for it, I decided to go Radeon for the first time since the ATI X300 I had in high-school. I got a 6950XT to replace my 1070 Ti and a 5800X3D to replace my 3600X for less than what he wanted for a 4080. The first year was rough with drivers. Some releases were good, others introduced video playback issues where the video would freeze on fullscreen for Netflix. However everything released so far this year has been pretty good. I use the fluid motion frames for a lot of games. I can push upwards of 120 FPS in most titles at 1440p. I use AFMF to max my display refresh rate of 180. Even in stuff like BF2042 I don't really notice the 10-15 ms of lag it adds. Overall it was pretty good value.
Very similar experience here. I was ready to build a workstation late last year. 4090s were approaching $2.2k near me. 7900XTX was $980. I built the entire PC for less than I was about to pay for a GPU.
Not every driver has been perfect. The update 2 months ago kinda broke Parsec streaming for me, capping it at like 12 fps. That got patched in the next update. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing. I play quite a lot of games on my TV at 4k. AFMF and RSR are surprisingly good for what they're meant to do, and between the 2 of them every game I play is locked at 180hz.
I built that exact build targeting 1440p144Hz right after the crypto crash, coming from a 3600 and GTX 1080.
I didn't need to upgrade, but I wanted to. It was late enough in the game for these parts that drivers had stabilized, and I also run Linux on the thing.
I loved my Zune. I had a 30gb, 80gb and a Zune HD. The software was so good too. There just isn't any good software for local music listening anymore
I was a proud Zune owner as well. I chose that over the ipod simply cause of the FM Tuner built in.
Can you finish the zune part? I'm curious now
lmao I would love to see a full-on Zune retrospective if you ever find the time in between covering major scandals! I still have my 1st gen 80GB and I loved it
My favorite part is when they cut you off when you started talking about Zunes. Zunes were the best at the time imo, I had an 80GB one when Apple was selling their 30GB for $250.
It was a pretty good use of future perfect tense announcing there won't be an announcement announcing the announcement of the new Switch at the same announcement announcing the software announcement.
22:51 Am I old, now? I got every single one of those references. 😂

Please make a whole video on the Zune! Its history is super intriguing and id be cool to have a start to finish timeline and kinda post mortem video
