  • After a recent oil change, I wanted to look inside the OE Motorcraft FL500S Oil Filter that is specified for the twin turbo Raptors. The Filter seems to be well built for a stock unit and up to the needs of most people.

Nice breakdown of the filter. I have been a huge fan of OEM parts. These filters are just fine for 5,000 mile intervals.

This is a better quality filter than the AC Delco ones. I used to run this filter on my Chevy SS with the 6.2L LS3 motor and it fit right on and was longer too. Replaced the PF-48 from AC Delco. On my Ford vehicles I only run Motorcraft or Wix.

I have a 2023 transit that takes 12 quarts of oil and has a 10k change interval. I’m amazed it uses this tiny filter for a 10k interval.

Svt Lightning owner and few other fords- only motorcraft filters on my rides…have 2-300 k miles driven added up from my Fords - OEM is the way to go

I'll stick with Motorcraft. Never failed me yet. Ran in my last 1994 I6 for 17 years. I still see it running hear local. Has to be near 300k miles on it by now. I now run in my 2015 5.0l

So is a Purolator filter 🤔 okay which one cheaper since they're the same?

The Purolator is a very good filter for the price.

What would you think of running a taller filter like the motorcraft FL-820s? Or K&N HP-2010, or Purolator PBL24651?

I just stick with OEM. filters usually outlast the oil.

Do you know of other filters that have a better micron rating, that are also like this one? And I do mean like - especially like the Upper Bypass Valve that you didn't talk about at all, which it probably the most important feature in cold climate startups when the oil on the filter is so thick from being so cold. And the bypass is nearest to the oil coming into the filter. Not to mention doesn't run sediments back into the engine in bypass bode, that have fallen to the bottom on the filter earlier.
And there is a coil spring in the bypass valve, so it wouldn't be advisable having two.

Filters with synthetic media like amsoil

@@EnthusiastsGarage It seem you missed the biggest topic yet again - the upper or front end or base plate bypass valve that is on the FL-500S. What Amsoil or other filter(s) might you have seen or know has an alike bypass valve near the base plate of a spin-on oil filter.
