I grew up watching all of the variety shows. From Carol Burnett, to Sony and Cher, The mandrell sisters, Donnie and Marie, hee-haw, etc. they don't make TV like that anymore. I watch it still on Pluto TV or me TV. My 17-year-old daughter loves watching the Price is Right and old game shows. Glen Campbell had a variety show for a while too I believe.
Jimmy Dean is the sausage guy... but before that he was a hit singer (Big Bad John), and had a pretty popular variety show. And Roy is a beast on any instrument he picks up! Pure entertainment.
Thank you for selecting the genius of Roy Clark to react to. You are fast becoming one of my favorite channels. These classics bring back sweet memories. RIP Roy Clark.
I loved watching him. A lot of times when he's playing he sticks his tongue out and he looked just like my boys when they were really getting into a game.
Rest in Paradise Roy! Yes, it was corny but very entertaining back in the day! There is also another performance of this song where Roy plays the guitar with an empty glass instead of his foot! Pure genius talent! He intentionally reversed one lyric for laughs! You wouldn't catch it if you didn't already know the song! Roy could play anything that had strings but also other instruments also! Thanks for sharing! Love your channel!
Roy starred on the weekly Country Music tv show “HeeHaw” for years & years. He was a total entertainer. He had huge hits that were serious songs, as well as huge comedy hit songs. He was a master guitarist, but would joke about it. He became a ‘celebrity’ by not taking himself seriously. I saw him live when he was selling out 30,000 seat arenas. If people can’t “handle that much entertainment” must be dull.
Variety shows were a staple of tv during the 50’s, 60’s, and the 70’s. The top of the genre was Ed Sullivan. The nation watched by the 10’s of millions every Sunday night. The top singers all had their own shows for a time. Then all the others were guests.
In the comments, you've got, "Orange Blossom Special" which shows Roy on fiddle playing with a 10yo banjo prodigy. "12th Street Rag" showcases more of Roy's guitar ability. For Roy's vocals, you have the touching "Yesterday, When I Was Young", or the comic "Thank God and Greyhound".
Roy Clark was the best. He was phenomenal talent and ectremely well versed on many stringed instruments. Please react to Roy and Jimmy Henley's duet of "Orange Blossom Express". Also listen to Roy singing, " Yesterday When I Was Young". Roy loved to have fun and make people laugh.
Roy was both a serious musician AND a comic. He could play just about anything w/strings, his father taught him how to play guitar and Roy could not read music. If you want a good laugh watch some of his short renditions of (his words) "take popular songs and make them unknown over night". Besides that he did a song called 'Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone'. I dare you not to laugh at that one.
The craziness he does with his legs is a shout out to Johnny Cash. They perform this together on Johnny's tv show. Check out his 12th Street Rag sometime.
There are no variety shows anymore. Big Stars just don't do it these days.. It was a dying art when I was kid in the 70's.. I think they're all scared now to actually be out there ... live.. putting their talent on live TV.. God forbid they say something wrong that will offend someone, or some group, somehow.. Cancel culture is real... But I truly want to know if today's stars could be this fun ... live.. make fun of themselves and each other in a nice way knowing no one will take offense... Not our world now. Our world now, to me, is more full of hate and disrespect than it ever was 50 yrs ago.
Nobody back then could pick a guitar or a banjo like Roy Clark.. He was phenomenal... but i have to check out if you've reacted to Johnny Cash. And if you want to hear a great song by Roy... Yesterday When I Was Young/
I adored Roy Clark. Watched every episode of his show Hee Haw. He was a phenomenal musician and genuinely nice man.
If you like this, you're gonna LOVE "Twelfth Street Rag" . . . . .

Glad you're enjoying Roy Clark & the rest of the real Country Music Legends that we grew up with.
You need to see Roy Clark perform the 12th Street Rag (from the Jimmie Dean Show)
Thank you for selecting the genius of Roy Clark to react to. You are fast becoming one of my favorite channels. These classics bring back sweet memories. RIP Roy Clark.
Roy Clark is the best
Roy was a great entertainer
And you haven't even watched him do The Orange Blossom Special on the fiddle. ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes!
From his live album in the 70s
Yes I want more of this, not just from you but the entertainment industry. Ok I get that I'm 60ish and not your target market, but I miss these days.
check out Steve martin on banjo
I loved watching him. A lot of times when he's playing he sticks his tongue out and he looked just like my boys when they were really getting into a game.
Roy was a phenomenal guitarist: banjo player

Roy is buried about 10 miles away from me. He was phenomenal

This is classic, I can't get enough of it

This was Johnny Cash’s hit song, the whole album was recorded at Folsom Prison in May 6, 1968.
I've always loved Roy Clark and those variety shows of the old days!
How are you Krizz?
Happy Holidays!
Definitely want the full entertainment that can be brought by the artist

Dude this fkin guy is amazing ....Hee Haww !
@Krizz... check out Barbara Mandrell. She was a country singer and played several different instruments.
She is still alive.
hahahhahahahah from a show in the 70's my man ....nailed it
oh frak i thought this was Malaguena see him do that !
And Luther was his guitar ❤
Roy Clark could literally play, and I do mean play anything with strings.
Hendrix said Roy was best all guitarist he knew. And Jimmy was one of the best.
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎😍

Was going to post something similar. Roy was a great entertainer as well as a master musician.
I think that little hip thing he was doing was also a hat tip to Elvis.
Check w Roy doing white lightning
Hee Haw would be welcomed back. 😊
You should try to find a video of his recording of Orange Blossum Special from his live album. His violin ( fiddle) skills will amaze you

Love your channel. But Roy Clark is right handed. He is a beast thou. Peace.
Not sure that we are more simple, or if we suffer from short memories in this “Information Age.”
I think addung a little extra something makes it more enjoyable & will get a person known for it. Never do the same show twice.
I liked it when they could do different things keeps it interesting.
You've gotta look at some Chet Atkins, considered by some of the greats as one of the greats
