My son had hair down to the middle of his back. He had been growing it out for 2 years. Today, he decided he wanted to cut some of his hair off since the temperature has been steadily 107 F. We went to a salon and asked for a cut which really was still on the long side ( surfer hair) the girl gave my son a straight up little girls classic bob , to his chin. When I tried to dispute it she completely did not own up to it. I had even asked her before if she was sure she could do it. I brought a reference photo. Anyway, ended up going home, with a little girl hair cut on my son. Once home, my son sadly just asked me to buzz it. Quite traumatic since he had had his long hair for so long. I watched this tutorial, and I can honestly say that I killed it, thanks to you, and my son loves it! Thanks so much! You saved the day!

This is why I rarely go to the hairdresser and cut my hair on my own. If I mess it up at least I am the one to blame. I think you did a great job helping your son out after him receiving such a terrible haircut. If I ever should have a son in the future I think I will take care of his hair as well.

I just cut my hair for the first time yesterday. I knew that the sides and back we're going to be easy because I've had this hairstyle for a while, but I'm completely lost on what to do on the top. LOL but now that I've seen you just part it down the middle and cut it with scissors on the side like that I think I can manage. This was so helpful! Just tried this cut today on my son’s friend and got great results from your tutorial. Just to say that dealing with long hair to get your parts correct does take perseverance but once done it becomes quite enjoyable. I did have some moments trying to coordinate scissors and comb together once I parted the hair in the middle to cut sides , back and the angle cut at the front. Overall I found this tutorial easy to understand and execute. You are a fantastic and thorough teacher. Many thanks Owen

@TheSalonGuy if he wants an extreme side part (he only ever combs it to one particular side), do I still part the hair in the middle to cut both sides evenly?
I sadly do not have the head for this haircut which would make my hair combing time cut down significantly, which isn't that long but wife takes up the most restroom time so combing my hair to perfection is almost impossible. Fortunately my son was born with a beautiful head and has been rocking the johnny Depp "crybaby" pomp for the last year in a half. Since it's about to be summer I started cutting his hair like this and looks just as good on him as the full pomp. I just couldn't get the trimming of the back right but this video explained that part so good that I actually fixed his hair after watching this, thank you. The slick back undercut will be his new go to haircut during the summer.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have one question, for the sectioning could you please explain in a little bit more detail where to draw the line with comb? because for me it was little bit hard to understand how wide to make the top section. Thanks a lot if you can get back to me! :)
I would do it just *somewhere* then take a picture or a mirror, show the person and ask them if they'd like it lower or higher, and go from there.

I'm always curious - is the hairstyle ruined when you nod your hair? Because it looks really cool and stuff, but it doesn't look like it would stay that way if you inclined it.
opENDfist I can confirm this to be true. Even looking down to check your watch or phone. Try slicking the hair either diagonally back or going sideswepr if your hair is shorter than 5 inches

I've been putting off cutting it, but in Az the temps are blasting already. His hair though, is so gorgeous, this is exactly what I had in mind for his hair!! He'll love this look! I just recently transitioned into this hairstyle, and I have very thick hair with a lot of volume... But my hair isn't very long. It's a medium-ish length...
And it's hard to keep pulled back because it always sticks up on the sides. Is it easier to have longer hair with this hairstyle? Having longer hair add weight to the hair to keep it down more?

I have very thick hair, the top part reaching down to my chin. It's way too heavy to stay in the comb over undercut style, even when blowdrying and using product. I'm about to cut it again to reduce weight

I have this haircut, and what I use for pomade is vegetable shortening. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't stay greasy for long. By the end of the day, it's all evaporated or whatever. It's super easy to wash out with shampoo. And your head doesn't smell at all. You can get a huge can of it for a couple bucks!

I've been growing my hair out since the pandemic started and occasionally buzzing the sides but was really nervous about shaping the top despite how awful it currently looks already. But now I think I'm ready to actually do the full haircut. You also convinced me to buy a blow-dryer lol. Believe it or not, unlike most straight men, I did not get complimentary access to one when I moved in with my girlfriend lmao.
Can you use real people cuz I'm not really a fan of manikins as it doesn't look that realistic and is kinda of hard to see detail on e.g a skin fade is hard to see

I agree its better to see examples on real people. Like he said pull the hair and tighten it to improve the cut. But who is gonna pull the customers head? And dude was all kinds of forceful on that mannequin. Seeing how he would do it on a real customer is much more beneficial. Plus people have different head shapes instead of this perfectly rounded head on a mannequin

A good, strong hold hair product. Gel? Strong hold pomade? Depends on your hair density
Pomade, not the white lotion stuff...use the hard cream that's not milky or watered down. I use axe Pomade, color purple. Blue is nice too

I did this to my 10 year old son yesterday. He loves it an is totally feeling himself. He thinks he's a little badass because I showed him a clip from "Fury", which is the look I was actually going for. Unfortunately I found the tutorial for that haircut after the fact. With his hair it's a huge pain in the ass having undercut it the whole way around. The negatives come from me never cutting hair before and my son's crazy cowlick. This video was a great tutorial that was easy to follow. I didn't need to replay it at all during the haircut.

I really hate this type of undercut. I had it last year and the long hair from the back realllyyyy tickling my head at the buzz part and it was really freaking annoying . Also when it grows out, my hair became ugly. Now I only do faded undercut where the buzz cut faded to the center.

So I have had an undercut for 4 years, and I have always wondered why mine was always so long. Si have been cutting my own hair for years now. So I watched this video (I should have been done this lol but work etc etc) and didn't know how to cut it even using my own brain. So I just went to the bathroom, and put it to the sides and back, trimmed it just how you did the mannequin and showered. Combed my hair and now it's perfect, complete, long overdue but I finally perfected it. Thanks guy.
