    Great job i love how you put plexiglass on the equipment to shot how it works and whats happening inside. I always found water moving a wheel or turbine very fascinating and when it creates power that can power a mac book it updates the wow factor even more!

    isn't the power from the water coming out of the hose the equal and opposite reaction (cost) of the power used to pump the water up into the city water tank?

    • @publicmail2
      @publicmail2 8 років тому

      Of course, the losses from conversion DC to AC to DC, is not efficient, but that is not the purpose of this project I gather. It would have been more efficient to regulate the DC right from generator at 13.8-15 volts. Converting to AC then back to DC and back to AC is very inefficient. But, obviously free water head pressure (dam) is the way to go, then even if 50% efficient it's still free. Also, cities use small pumps to fill towers so they have high demand head pressure when needed, like a giant capacitor or battery but for water.

  • @Jimmy25camaro

    this is great, I have 2 questions, how many amps is it pushing out, and the 2nd question, Would it be possible to generate enough power to run a pump to get the water back up to the top. For example, the gravity lets the water fall, turns the wheel, lands in an enclosed system (such as the one you have) then an internal pump or in-line pump pumps the water to the top. Essentially it would be a mini power plant. But it would have to generate enough energy to run the pump and have extra power. So if the pelton wheel and alternator generate 200 watts and the pump uses 50 watts, then the system would be efficient cuz it would be net gain 150 watts and while its enclosed you wouldnt need more water or lose it to evaporation. Is this possible to do/energy efficient?

    • @Jimmy25camaro
      @Jimmy25camaro 9 років тому

      I had a few other ideas. 1 would be if you can pressurize the tank that has the water in it with air to make the water shoot out faster (although this would require an air compressor using a lot of electricity probably ) and then 2nd was to make some sort of device that uses the properties of static electricity to move the water to your tank at the top. I watched some videos on how static electricity attracts water

    • @Jimmy25camaro
      @Jimmy25camaro 9 років тому

      But what if u could make 2 flat pannels next to a pipe and slide them upward pulling the water up. This could be run with electric motor. The next idea the 3rd is to use something like a bike chain and sprocket moving a bucket on a rail slowly upward (like how a Rollercoaster climbs) and then having it pour the water into the top. Then repeat. So itll catch water at thr bottom then gradually bring it up to the top to be poured again, that could run off an electronic motor or possibly the water wheel

    • @AFXGaming
      @AFXGaming 8 років тому +1

      Your second question is answered with a no. That would be a breakthrough in science and we would move onto the next generation in technology and eventually could develope flying vehicles and things that power themselfs. The problem is there is always a loss in power ive been thinking about how to solve the problem for years and there is nothing. You can power it yes but it wont last within a little while the water wont be able to spin the turbine therefore the turbine would stop spinning and power wouldn't be generated for the pump and the water will stop. If anyone figures out how to create a machine that runs off itself. They can patent it and make trillions of dollars. And would be one of the smartest people in the world.

    Very nice.
    If one were to do the math - To produce 800 watts, (about half of the amount of electricity needed to power a hair blow dryer one done would need 6.6 gallons of water per minute from a height of 10 feet. To produce 800 watts in one day would take almost 500,000 gallons of water or the amount of water stored in 25 backyard in-ground swimming pools.

    • @passedhighschoolphysics6010
      @passedhighschoolphysics6010 9 років тому

      This will never work in California. The fines for excessive water use are far more than the electricity generated.

      Passed High School Physics If the water id given back to the stream, the water is not used as for irrigation, domestic or industrial uses. There not loss of water by evaporation or contamination. It would be ridiculous to throw the water of a stream, or to use tap water for that purpose.
      You are not using the water but only the kinetic energy of the water, or in other words the "gravity energy" transported by the water running down in a stream.
      Pelton turbines are useful only if the have a height big enough to get at least 60 PSI of pressure. Often is simpler to use other types of turbines, old style wheels, or Archimedes screws. The quantities of water look enormous but the stream is not dried by the electricity production. Besides it oxygenates the water, for example with some precautions a water wheel improves the quality of the water of a river, and you get more fauna as fishes or crays.

      +Passed High School Physics ,
      Your math is Flawed. You can not get 800 watts from 6.6 gallons from a head of 10 ft. !!
      You would need 60 gallons per minute from a head( Height) of 100 feet to produce 800 watts.
      THUS to produce 800 watts in one day would only take 60 gallons NOT 500,000!!
      To produce 800 watts per minute for a 24 hour period would only require 86,400, NOT 500,000!!
      Even by your! math:: 6.6 gallons per minute would only equal 9,504 Gallons!! ( 6.6 X 60(min) x 24(hrs) = 9,504!!
      You had better go back to "High School Physics" AGAIN! As you clearly failed!! ... .....

    Why, can't you run a generator off of this? If you pull a load,such as a refrigerator,
    will the water not move the wheel? If you took a gas generator,and removed the motor. And then,hooked it up to your water wheel,would it work? Or would the load, pull down the generator till it would not move the wheel?
    Thank you.

    • @ElaBellll
      @ElaBellll 10 років тому

      yes, you could do this, but not in this setup, and i recommend you use a ultra low rpm generator, like is used in windmills these days, so you can gear the pelton wheel down getting more torque and less speed. for it to be worthwhile investment you should buy a real pelton wheel, not make one unless your good at fabricating and have a source of pressurized water like a stream or lake above your house. then you could easily make 1-10kw depending on the head you can get on your water, thats enough to power 2 average houses at 10kw. I plan to buy a house where i can use this technology combined with some solar to power my house. I am not a hydro electric engineer and thus i ask you to take anything said here with a grain of salt, though im no idiot, please think for your self do your own research and find what is best suited for your application.

    He is making 12 volts at 2 amps or 24 watts. If you look there is a black battery in the " Power generated" box labeled BATTERY . That is what the inverter is working off..He would have made more power by just throwing a 25 watt solar panel out there on the lawn. Probably saved himself some time and money too. Pelton Wheel generators are well known. There is no need to research them again. As purely "something" to do I guess its alright but not something to get excited about..

      From a stupid country a useless Idea. Thats all.
      Cuando alguien hace un proyecto con equipo de miles de dolares para tirar agua y cargar una batería es porque
      1- realmente no tiene necesidades
      2- por el contrario le sobran recursos
      3- no tiene nada mejor en que gastar su tiempo.
      4- No tiene idea de lo que es generar electricidad económicamente en un país donde derrochan todo lo que tocan.
