Notice the planes square windows, this was a design flaw that caused planes to disintegrate mid flight, with disasters occurring in 1953 and 1954. Following these tragedies the windows were redesigned to round.

This movie and Some Like It Hot are really the best of Marilyn: light comedy, and the combination of “innocence” and “bombshell” in just the right balance. Seven Year Itch has a slightly creepy edge and some of her other roles weighed her down a little, especially the more serious ones. In this film, you get to root for all the leads and there’s no villainy or sadness to spoil it. All ends happily.

@@koleyw932maybe. It all depends on who is judging you and who you seek approval from, I think. Grace Kelly was respected as an actress, but her family never cared how many Oscars she won, for them, that career choice was for trash folks and they wanted her to go into politics and philanthropy, as she came from upper class society. It never mattered that she married the Prince of Monaco. Meanwhile Marilyn would've loved those classy roles Grace Kelly had. But Marilyn had no family to "stick it to," the way Grace did. But I find it so interesting that Grace's family had so much pride, they didn't allow themselves to be proud of her.
Not to mention public perception. Consider that Grace Kelly legitimately came from high society, as was the title of one of her greatest films. Try to imagine Marilyn playing in "high society"... consider the image. Grace, stunning and gorgeous as she was, didn't have the figure Marilyn had. I think people found Marilyn's character more relatable on the whole though. Everyone loves Grace Kelly but who do we talk about more as the years roll on? Whose films do we watch more? High Society or Gentleman Prefer Blondes, etc?

My cousin is a film historian and has been on CNN & Turner Classic Movies channel, her books sold in stores around the nation. She wrote on Marilyn. Anyway, Norma Jean (aka Marilyn) hated these films .. she wanted to be taken seriously by the academy and desired the more "Grace Kelly" type films or like Audrey Hepburn. She hated this dumb blonde persona. Her marriages didn't last. I can't imagine seeing her angry for real or anything when I watch these films, but I imagine she had her moments. Her life was tragic in her youth. Tragic in totality in my opinion.

@@shutinalleyActually, only a 'simpleton' in your words, would think you require a specific format for humour. Some humour is subtle, not a standard 'joke' format with 'punch lines.' Also, context matters. This scene is about the irony of thinking women cannot be beautiful if they wear glasses. Having one of the most beautiful women of the era put on glasses and pretend she was worried she was no longer beautiful, underscores the ABSURDITY of this notion and pushes back against it without being rude or aggressive.
Using humour to make an actual point that makes people's lives BETTER, thar has undoubtedly helped the self-esteem of countless young women who wear glasses, is worth a lot more than stock jokes relying on punch lines. And it takes more intelligence to understand the message in subtle humour than one that hits you over the head.
It doesn't have to be a movie you enjoy. People can have different tastes. But you not liking something doesn't make it badly done. You don't make the rules on what is ACTUALLY clever, and you not being able to understand it is actually an argument for the writers being cleverer than you!
