Smoke on the Water may have been their biggest hit song. But, this song in their biggest achievement when it comes to raw talent and emotions. My favorite Deep Purple song by a long shot.
One of the greatest rock songs of all time. A masterpiece Ian Gillan (Vox) Richie Blackmore (Gtr) Roger Glover (Bass) Jon Lord (Organ) Ian Paice (Drums)
I can't honestly think of another band who were better than Deep Purple at their peak. Aside from the quality of the songs, the production, the arrangements, etc...the musicianship is jaw-droppingly good.
This song demands that you let it breathe to the end. Sometimes saying less is more. That would be Richie Blackmore on guitar, one of the GOATS. Deep Purple paved the way for bands like Sabbath, Megadeath. Great watching you have fun on this one. 🔥
The video of the TV studio performance is amazing. The audience back in 1972 was stunned. Ian Gillam’s range was incredible and it pops out even more live. If you’re a Jesus Christ Superstar fan- Gillam was Jesus on the original recording- hand picked by Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote the show. Check him out singing “ Gethsemane “ from the show on YT.
Your reaction just transported me back to the first time I heard this, me and my brother just sat right through without saying a single word, absolutely gobsmacked, and it sounds every bit as good over 50 years later. I knew you were not going to press pause, and you were almost headbanging during the guitar solo !
A sublime song. Appreciate your reflection/instincts on and consideration of the reaction process. Your facial expressions/body language speaks for itself. I definitely prefer to, for the most part, hear thoughts on the track once it’s finished. :)
Love ya reactions, i listened the whole album just some hours ago, while i was cleaning the snow around my house. I think this is one of the first albums that really HARD ROCKING🔥🔥 not just a blues experience.
Check out Rainbow. :) Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore founded Rainbow with future metal god Ronnie James Dio. “Catch the Rainbow” is poignant and beautiful. “Mistreated - Live in Munich 1977” (originally a Deep Purple song) is epic.
My older sister got the Machine Head album when it came out and we borrowed Fireball from my cousin. Deep Purple was one of my main introductions into heavier music and remain one of my favorites. I've never seen anyone react to anything from the Fireball album, I recommend checking that album out. Of course the rest of this album, In Rock, is amazing.
Watching you react to this reminds of how I listen to it; eyes closed, head bobbing! Amazing song from an amazing band! I couldn't click on this reaction fast enough! Keep up the great reactions DS!
I found this channel accidently while searching for Vince Gill and Patty Loveless singing Go Rest High Upon the Mountain tribute to George Jones. A heart wrenching, beautiful song, and I was moved by your sincere, emotional reaction. That led me to explore.....Child In Time, takes me back to my youthful "Hippie Daze" down in the cave with my friends. This is an incredible song that chills me to the bone. I have subscribed to your channel......Peace!!
When I first heard this song coming out of my brothers stereo some 40 years ago I was hooked and sold. It is still my energysong whenever I need motivation or inspiration......it is out of this world, pure musicianship
You may already know but Home Free featuring Don McLean have released Don's iconic song American Pie. This is the fifty year anniversary of the song. Home Free released it on February 3rd in recognition of the 62nd year of the plane crash that killed 22 yr old Buddy Holly, J P Richardson ( The Big Bopper) 27 and 17 yr old Richie Valens. Would love to see your reaction. The song is a little over 8 min. long.. Always enjoy your comments. Thanks
That of course was Ritchie Blackmore on the guitar and if you want to hear him go even more Interstellar on the guitar you should hear him on Stargazer with Rainbow. That guitar solo is nothing short of epic.
Hello my friend North Florida here.Great choice with Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore can be a ass but one hell of a guitar player and Ean Gillian on Vocals make this band a top ten all time in my book. Great reaction and look forward to Smoke on the water. And more great tracts from Deep Purple take care and North Florida has your back as always my friend. Till next time
This was my area when all the bands incorporated electricity to there instruments. We had Quadraphonic sound. It was a commercial failure when first introduced. With your post I now have it Digital and its like a reissue for mat. But the notes are the same and we hear what they were stepping in.
Dont know if anyone has mentioned it so far but according to an interview i saw with Brian Glover the song was inspired by war as we where getting constant news feed about Veitnam
Stone cold CLASSIC!! I agree with another commenter about the live vid, not only is the performance incredible but the sound is as well! I want to ask something delicately...Are you adjusting sound quality, perhaps as part of anti block strategy? Maybe I have just caught a couple of less that stellar sounding clips in a row. Anyway, Keep the vids coming, I really like your reaction style.
Si quieres apreciar la verdadera dimensión de Deep Purple mucho mejor en vivo...., Made in Japan, Made in Europe, In concert..., etc. Saludos y bienvenido a la familia Purple
do yourself a favor and listen to the group "rainbow" when the line up had this guitaris-Richie Blackmore and the vocalist Ronnie James Dio and possibly one more band member from Deep Purple. Lyrically and musically amazing
Do your self a favour and listen Raindow live in Munich 1977 mistreated.or twenty sentury Greensleeves.is the same guitarist the man in black mr rishie Blackmore with Dio.
What? You not think Lil Junk, Lil Punk...er, Pump I mean, Blue Face, or Six-Crime couldn't pull this off without breaking out in a sweat? (Please note my unabashed sarcasm)
You HAVE to watch the live version of this. It's a trip.
Most deff!
Yes watch live!
Absolutely plus 1 on that!
IMHO, the greatest rock song ever recorded!
Smoke on the Water may have been their biggest hit song. But, this song in their biggest achievement when it comes to raw talent and emotions. My favorite Deep Purple song by a long shot.
One of the greatest rock songs of all time. A masterpiece
Ian Gillan (Vox)

When you said "I haven't listened to much Deep Purple", I knew you were in for a trip.
No words can ever describe this song but I've got two: genius, masterpiece.
It's all about that voice and the melodic screams. One of the best voices in rock.
This song demands that you let it breathe to the end. Sometimes saying less is more. That would be Richie Blackmore on guitar, one of the GOATS. Deep Purple paved the way for bands like Sabbath, Megadeath. Great watching you have fun on this one. 🔥
I’m a purple fan more than any other band but they didn’t pave the way for Sabbath, Megadeth yes... sabbath had their own sound.
That's my favorite Deep Purple song. Thanks for the reaction.

Gillan..
One for history.. mind blowing!
Love Ian Gillam’s voice! What a range. Great choice!
So great , never gets old !!
Your reaction . . . absolutely priceless. As always Michael thank you for all you do.
I appreciate that
Something about that ending reminds me of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and "I bring you FIRE"
Your reaction just transported me back to the first time I heard this, me and my brother just sat right through without saying a single word, absolutely gobsmacked, and it sounds every bit as good over 50 years later. Beautifully organic. We effed everything up going digital
What talent.I think you'll like this
That was quite a journey!
A sublime song. Appreciate your reflection/instincts on and consideration of the reaction process. Your facial expressions/body language speaks for itself. I definitely prefer to, for the most part, hear thoughts on the track once it’s finished. :)
Truly excellent song.

Favorite live performance of all time.... such a great live song. "Catch the Rainbow" from the same concert is a close second.
Deep Purple always fantastic! Appreciate all you do! 😃
My favorite of theirs. You need to check out Pictures of Home and Lazy.
One word: Masterpiece
My older sister got the Machine Head album when it came out and we borrowed Fireball from my cousin. Deep Purple was one of my main introductions into heavier music and remain one of my favorites. You have to take a listen to “BURN”. You might need to hold on too. It is my favorite dEEp puRPle song. Amazing Guitar.
My favourite guitar solo of all time!

IAN GILLAN..
Aaaand breathe!! Always feel like you need to lie down in a darkened room after that - thank you for sharing
Please, Please, Deep Purple "Burn" live at the California Jam 1974!!!!!!! And studio track of Lazy"!!!!!!! You'll Love It!
I was there at Ontario Speedway for both CalJams. DP absolutely was on fire (pun intended). In fact both concerts were fabulous! Great suggestion!
Lifetime subscriber here! As long as you’re on, I’m here for it 😉. Great song choice, by the way
You are Hooked My Brother,😂😂😂😂😂 check out the Live version, I know you want to hear it again 😏 👏👊✌️🇺🇸🏁🗽

Yes. Please wait until the end to tell us your interpretation.

Well said
Please do Deep Purple's Lazy, also a truly great song!
Please react the live version of this great Rock song.
Great reaction!
Blocking happens (or not) irrespective of stopping. Some artists block everything - even a 10 second clip - and some let everything go.
Stone cold CLASSIC!! I agree with another commenter about the live vid, not only is the performance incredible but the sound is as well! Good song choice 👍

Your missing live performance.Your going to be blown away, this does not do justice, I'm telling you
This is far more restrained than the live version, I did read once that it was an anti Vietnam war song
You should watch the live video
Love your channel.
do yourself a favor and listen to the group "rainbow" when the line up had this guitaris-Richie Blackmore and the vocalist Ronnie James Dio and possibly one more band member from Deep Purple. Lyrically and musically amazing
I second that request. Rainbow is a fantastic group (or super group). Stargazer being their most epic song, but so many more.
1970 wolf ,,something live
Dude, it's cool to see a black guy headbanging.I know, it can't be helped. Yeah. Great reaction. Peace
I had to live through Deep Purple, Ten Years After, ELP, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Temptations, I had it tuff, not like you modern girlies.
Made in Japan: all of it....
Do your self a favour and listen Raindow live in Munich 1977 mistreated.or twenty sentury Greensleeves.is the same guitarist the man in black mr rishie Blackmore with Dio.
Agree 100%
What? You not think Lil Junk, Lil Punk...er, Pump I mean, Blue Face, or Six-Crime couldn't pull this off without breaking out in a sweat? (Please note my unabashed sarcasm)
For me, Deep Purple without Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord is not Deep Purple.
You aren't alone.
I agree
It's stifled. Sound is not good on here. Please see them perform ,it's indoors
Live version is better
If you want to hear how great the drummer Iain Paice is check out there track the mule either live or studio version.
