      Survival On Purpose Let me ask you one question about the imperial system. How many feet are in a mile? you know that offhand? good. alright. how many inches? do most people even know what is smaller than an inch. meanwhile. me an American who grew up in America, can tell you how many millimeters are in a kilometer. centimeters in a decameter. makes almost as little sense as fatenheight or the 12 hr clock.

      If the US switched to the metric system, trade with Myanmar and Liberia would be thrown into chaos. The US dollar would plummet, and Trump would become president. Oh wait......

    Great video Bryan. To alleviate one of your concerns, it is very unlikely you would pick up germs off of a pen someone used before you. Germs and bacteria require a warm, wet, and porous environment to grow and sustain themselves. Plastic is non-porous, and nine times out of ten too cold for germs to last very long. As far as tactical pens go, I agree with you. It's a great item to have and one step above your bare fists. My father-in-law is an ex-cop and taught me how to use one as a kubaton. I use the UZI TACPEN7 which is very sleek, non-tactical appearance, and has dual glass breakers on each end. Also, I drive long distance for my job, often in bad weather, and having a glass breaker on the end in case I was to come across a flash flood and need to break a window to get out is a no-brainer to me.

    I have a iron wood knuckle duster and a uzi tacpen 2. If you are trained, I'll choose my wooden knucks over tacpen as edc. But I made my own tacpen, it has a sharp nail under the cap. And base on my tests and observation, one jab or stab in the jaw with a tacpen can do damage, can probably damage the bone in jaw. A one punch in the jaw with a iron wood knucks can knock your attacker down or can cause jaw fracture.

    I own the Schrade SCPEN3BK. I don't believe they make it any longer. I lie having a tactical pen. Not because it's what I will pull out in a fight for pressure point or joint manipulation. I carry for 2 reasons, First is they are stronger and more robust and take a lot more damage on my pocket....Second, people try to catch you off guard, say when your heads down and signing something. It's a great first strike tool to give you distance and to stun your attacker. This gives you a chance to run or pull a true weapon to defend yourself.
    Plus you always need a pen, so why not have one with mutiple functions. Writing, glass breaking, blunt force strike. But pretty much everything I carry has multiple purposes. Keep up the good work, Brian.

    Cold Steel makes a felt tip pen with a VERY thick and solid polymer body, the old one was called the Sharkie and it was light grey and black, looked just like a full size Sharpie pen (their new one, the Shark, is solid black, I'm guessing the lawyers threatened.) It depends on your neighborhood. Where I live the crime rate is almost non existent so I carry a tactical pen for safety. In another town or city,visiting,I would carry a baton as an extra caution. Being unarmed ,for me,would be utterly senseless. Car Parks can be lethal so a weapon is mandatory. If I lived in America I would carry a back up gun everywhere,the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard being my favourite. Five rounds of .38cal. No hammer spur so the gun can't snag on the draw. But normally for me the Tactical Pen is adequate for getting me through the day.

      +T Shrum I have reviewed most of the Schrader brand tactical pens on this channel. You can just search the channel for the videos. I will say that, in my opinion, most of the strap cutters small enough to be included in a pen are virtually useless. A handcuff key might come in handy, but really the simpler the design The better as far as I am concerned. I really like the plane smooth End on this one so if you put your thumb on it to jab somebody you won't tear up your thumb.

    A Heavier Duty metal pen does have some purposes, other than writing. I've carried all metal pens for probably the past 30+ years. I usually went with a Pilot pens since they are common and easy to buy at nearly any store stationary supply isle. I recently bought a "Tactical" Pen just before the 4th of July because I knew that I would be out with my family visiting places such at Historic Philadelphia and I would not be able to carry even so much as my 40 year old Uncle Henry 3 blade pocket knife. But, I knew, nobody would even think twice about my black "Tactical" pen.

    I really liked this video. Thanks! I had a particular EX-girlfriend who continually ranked me out for always carrying a pen. You're exactly right in your estimation, though. There are places that you cannot carry any other type of defensive weapon but you CAN carry a pen virtually anywhere else and it is TOTALLY more desirable than an empty hand. I'm not above having SOME sort of advantage. Plus, I write ALL the time. btw- she was extremely fashion conscious and also hated me continually wearing button down shirts with pockets and having the tails out. I don't know about you but I won't wear a shirt without pockets and "tails out" gives you many options you would not otherwise have. Her and I are still good friends and I sent her this link just as a "got'cha"...lol. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and thought it was on point. Thanks again!

    2:00 Exactly why I like tactical pens...not because they are potential weapons, but they won't leak or break when I put them in a pocket.

    We shouldn't have defensive objects because some of us are dishonest, shady and dangerous. So goes the popular logic; which on its face doesn't make much sense. The craziest thing about that is we make sure that some of the most dishonest, shady, and dangerous people among us have 'defensive' things like nuclear weapons and armies.
    I've been looking for one with stellar writing quality or at least can house good quality ink. It's primarily going to write in my intended use case. This train of thought has always stopped me from picking a tac pen up, as I generally carry a knife that would do well in a pinch.
    This vid pushed me just enough to finally order a tac pen. For writing, yes. Also for those goofball scenarios where it makes the most sense to carry something. Where the real bad guys have instructed the cops to cage us for carrying defensive objects.
    Thanks for the upload.

    The first time I saw someone leave a public stall without washing their hands (I could hear them wiping) was enough to convince me I need my own pen.

    In my opinion an open hand can do far more damage and also act as a blocking, grabbing, poking, jabbing, throwing implement, which a closed hand with a tool in it can't do. Great video anyway, thanks!

    How I see it. I personally always carry a knife or possibly 2, a multitool, and a flashlight. if someone is attacking me and I need to reach for a weapon. I am for sure not reaching for a writing utensil.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  7 років тому +4

      Just another option. Especially for places that knife and multitool are not allowed

    • @freedfg6694
      @freedfg6694 7 років тому +1

      Survival On Purpose I guess for places where those aren't allowed. But that is really the only reason I see to carry one. And even at that point. Every airliner allows you to carry a flashlight. Which people who EDC already have.

      Not every situation requires lethal force. You'll get in a lot of trouble for killing someone thats not armed and just being aggressive. Tactical pens are a great option for neutralizing a situation thats not life threatening.

    I really like the design of that particular tactical pen. I have the Smith and Wesson one but the tip looks like a weapon. I use the Zebra 701 because they are all metal and a great pen, but it is a little slim. That Schrade fills the hand nicely for hammer strike but doesn't look overly tactical like the Smith and Wesson.

    Great review! God has definitely made you one of a kind! Keep being yourself with this... it's what people are drawn to. :-)
    Almost forgot to mention... pressure points. I was never a big believer in them, until I tried it on myself one evening. A little demo... take it and place the pointy end behind your head, against the base of your skull, at the top of your neck, centered over your spine. Now push. If you placed it in the right spot, the only thing you could do was try to get away from it. In trained hands, you could put someone on their face in an instant, I would think.

    I have been working as a security guard and I carried a pen and in the hot sun it leaked and got all over my log book. Having the screw on cap is important in my mind. some questions that come to mind since you never covered it in your review but what colour ink does it use, what type of pen tip as well as how is it refillable if it is able to be refilled and if so do they sell refills? These are just some things you could talk about since you mentioned repetition to fill up your review. :)

      So 10 minutes wasn't long enough? ;-) Seriously, This one is black ink, and this one is a ball point. It uses Schmidt refills (or several other readily available brands will work- some people have told me Fisher Space Pen refills will work)

    Hello Bryan !
    - It's a nice video, and I've liked your explanation very much. I agree we all should carry a tactical pen like this one nowadays, you never know ...
    - I'd like to ask you two simple questions, the first one: which country, or countries, produce nowadays this tactical pen, and if its quality is as good as those made in the U.S.
    - The second question: I've seen this tactical pen in the grey colour too. Which colour you prefer, the black or the grey one ? ... And why ?
    Thanks !

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  7 років тому +1

      +Carlos España I am sure these are made in China or Taiwan. As for quality, there is not much to screw up. Mine are fine.
      And color is entirely personal. I don't have a preference.

    I like the idea that it does weigh more than a regular pen. If you can feel it in your pocket, you know you haven't lost it. - Ya know, now we have lots of things that can double duty for protection like this pen or belt buckles with knives, etc. It makes sense to have at least one or two as your edc. They become part of your daily outfit and you always have them. I love things like that. Thanks for the video. Hmm.. I wonder if you could design a super stealthy armor and weapon outfit based on these types of gadgets.. would be cool.

    Okay I think you missed a couple points on the tactical pen. The fact is they do a lot more than stabbing and writing. They are great for pressure points as well.
    Also a point you missed is they're ergonomically better than most pens. As a nurse I do a lot of writing. Most pens make my hand hurt, but my tactical pen doesn't. It is also heavy enough that I don't have to consciously push for carbon copies.

    Thanks for the nice video. Just curious, I am using a parker stainless steel casing pen about the same size of a tactical pen, if i will be using it as a defensive weapon like a tactical pen, what are the pros and cons compare to a tactical pen? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

    If I lived in the USA I would carry some nice EDC, including a tactical pen. Legally speaking, in Australia, if you defend yourself with any pen or torch with a point or teeth that have been designed as a weapon then you may have issues as you have chosen to arm yourself before getting into the self defence situation. As a security guard, we are prohibited from carrying weapons and I have been asked to present my torch for inspection and told to replace it with an item without teeth.

      If you own a dog do you have to pull it's teeth? That is the path some in this country would like to take us down.

    • @buriedtoodeep1508
      @buriedtoodeep1508 8 років тому

      Do your best to not let that happen, it can't be undone. As for dog's teeth, if the dog uses it's teeth it gets put down and the owner goes to prison, unless the dog was defending it's home, in which case the owner gets a huge fine and can be sued by the burglar.
