Just something I want to point out, there is a rule in most nuzlocke where the nuzlocke doesn't officialy start untill you get some pokeballs. So his first try didn't actualy count since hedidn't have pokeball at that point.
Alpharad is someone who I’ve been following for YEARS, so it’s neat seeing you react to this sort of thing. I have a lot of Pokemon knowlege since I like looking at the in depth stuff, so I’ll be available to help break stuff down (meaning LOTS of timestamps here, wall of friggin text incoming). 2:10 I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think the way you’re supposed to do nicknames in a soul link is to give the linked mons the same nickname, since they have the same soul across the two games (lore stuff, woo!) 3:33 The timing on this is kinda funny, because Nerissa just killed a KFP (Kiara fan) named Jeremy to cook as chicken in her 3D debut. 4:15 Pretty sure he didn’t at this point, but nowadays when he does stuff like this he often does name his mons after people in chat. 5:30 Specifics on crits: Crit chance changes between game but from gens 3-6 it’s 1/16, 1/24 onwards and just weird before then. Crits until gen 6 did double damage (1.5x gen 6 onwards), and bypass any stat drops to your attacking stat and any stat increases to the target’s defensive stat. 6:08 Scratch does not have increased crit. It seems like it might, seeming like a slashing move, but it doesn’t. 6:20 Notably this technically shouldn’t actually count as a loss, as officially Nuzlockes don’t start until you get pokeballs. It’s excusable bc this is Jacob’s first Nuzlocke, and it makes for good content. 6:43 Jacob doesn’t do the art himself, he has artists for the videos. 8:18 Mankey is a 45% encounter in the grass on route 22, which is accessable to the west of Viridian City. Otherwise it’s not till after Mt. Moon, so it’s a great early pickup. 8:50 Specifics on this: Essentially what randomizers do is that they, well, randomize every encounter on the encounter table, but keep the base levels on the encounter table the same. Each Pokemon species is coded with a specifc catch rate, that influences the catching formula, that actually gives your catch chance. 9:01 Mewtwo’s base catch rate is 3, which is roughly a base 1.6% catch rate with no modifiers. Starters have a base rate of 45 (roughly 11.9%) 14:33 Fun fact, Lt. Surge is legitimately called the “Lightning American” at some point. 15:04 Hyper Fang is BRUTAL this early, as it’s an 80 base power move, which is powered up by 50% to 120 due to Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). On top of that, due to the way damage calcs work, at lower levels the game gives you a slight boost in damage, since it’s expecting you to be using lower power moves. So yeah, early Hyper Fang is brutal from Ratticate, which is why it’s really good on your side and tough to fight. 15:48 Karate Chop is one of those moves with a heightened crit rate (+1 meaning 1/8). Combine that with base 75 power thanks to STAB, Machop’s (relatively for this level) high base attack of 80, and Diglett being frail with a base 25 defense, you get a very dead tube mole. 18:05 So yeah, general strat for stone evos is to level them up to get the moves first, then evolve. Eevee is an exception to this, as you wanna evolve it early because its evolutions only get an attack of their type early, and then again much later. 21:03 It’s not, it’s just a popular fan theory 22:33 This is an optional rule, mainly on Hardcore rulesets, might be a good idea to not do this for your first one. 23:59 Perish Song is actually really good in most unmodified nuzlockes, as many trainers do NOT switch their Pokémon. You can therefore just set it up, tank as many hits as you can and then switch to something else that can tank their enemy’s hits. 24:11 Mist blocks stat drops from enemy Pokémon for 5 turns. 24:37 Gyarados is normally faster than Rhyhorn, but what happened here is that since Gyarados is paralyzed, it’s speed is reduced to 25%, allowing Rhyhorn to out speed. 35:59 I think you might be thinking about some gen 1 stuff here, since there crits were based on speed. 37:15 Cloyster is Water/Ice (like many ice types in gen 1), so Fire is neutral against it. Cloyster has ALWAYS been Water/Ice, so I think your friend is just mixing it up with how Shelder starts out as pure Water but gains the Ice type when it evolves 41:47 It was blacked out in Gen 1, then later changed to white out in Gen 2, then eventually changed to “scurried away”. Whiting out means to “disappear”, I guess since they didn’t want the trainer actually fainting. 44:04 Gyarados is a Pokémon that’s commonly attributed as a pseudo legendary, but it’s not actually one. While it is just a fan created term, there are 3 conditions all Pokémon considered pseudos have: 1. They must be in the “slow” leveling group (how much exp they gain. 2. They must be a 3 stage evolutionary line. 3. They must have a base stat total of exactly 600 (they’re known as the 600 club in Japan). While Gyarados is in the “slow” leveling group, it is only in a 2 stage line and only has a base stat total of 540 46:12 This “unnamed friend” is Brayden, aka Captain Kidd. This “advice” led to what is probably one of THE MOST infamous moments in modern nuzlocking, and later set Brayden on his own journey of redemption in nuzlocking. 47:12 Stat boosts in Pokémon are amazing, since it effectively increases your damage/survivability more the longer the battle goes on. 47:43 You’re mixing up Swords Dance and Dragon Dance here. Swords Dance buffs Attack twice, Dragon Dance buffs Attack once and Speed once. The physical equivalent to Calm Mind is Bulk Up, which increases both Attack and Defence I think the ideal ways to do these reactions to build up to the soul link is to after this do Jaiden’s Ruby nuzlocke, then do Alpharad’s Randomizer Nuzlocke, then Jaiden’s Platinum one, then go to their soul link.
For a good Soul Link video I would recommend Jaiden Animations video she did with Alpharad. It is a randomizer as well. Love watching pokemon videos so looking forward to your nuzlocke
For clarification Critical Hits I think do two or three times damage something like that depending on which version you use cuz it has changed over the years critical hit percentages if you're playing the original old school red blue and yellow are based off your speed stat if you kill a Pokemon before you have pokeballs in the game it doesn't count Mankey can be encountered very rarely in the grass grass to the left of Viridian City I think as he is a go-to choice for people who choose Charmander in order to defeat Brock.
If ya want more Pokemon challenges/Nuzlocke videos, obviously there's more from Alpharad, but JaidenAnimations also has a series of her first Nuzlockes that she animated as well. Her first was Ruby, her second was Platinum, and her 3rd was a 2 Player Nuzlocke (Soul Link) with Alpharad here! Highly recommend them!
One big tip on Crits is it depends on the generation how bad Crits are. Early generations Crits were x2 damage it was changed Gen 5 or 6 to be x1.5 damage This is crucial information for a Nuzlocke for first timers if you want to keep the team alive
Like others mentioned Jaiden Animations made 3 Nuzlocke vids. They're all Brilliant. If you want To prep yourself for a Nuzlocke Jaiden Animations vids are a perfect training
Jaiden nuzlocke videos is interesting as well and her soul link nuzlocke videos featuring alphard is one of the best nuzlocke videos

A lot of the things I was going to comment on you already said so thanks! A lot of good info
Alpharad and JaidenAnimation did a Soul Link Nuzlocke video. Great videos!

The new gamers don't have Set/Switch mode so if you were ro do a more modern Nuzlocke, you simply have to hit cancel when the prompt appears
For clarification Critical Hits I think do two or three times damage something like that depending on which version you use cuz it has changed over the years
critical hit percentages if you're playing the original old school red blue and yellow are based off your speed stat
