I have had a SOG PP for a while now but never pull it out or put it in a kit. The only mid size device I carry is a Roxon KS2E. It doses not have a pliers, which I need maybe once a week. I keep a 4 inch adjustable wrench or 5 inch Knipex close by. It is heavier but the implements are so much better.
I got to say my friend as I revisit this what I consider the best review on the PowerPint it definitely packs a punch. The gear system for the pliers alone allows for way stronger grip. I've been looking for a replacement today for my Leatherman Micra which is still going strong 15 years later, great steel for the blade which was quickly restored to a razor sharp edge using what I believe is the best fastest knife sharpener and that is the Accu sharp knife sharpener unfortunately I can't sharpen the scissors with it that have become somewhat dull. I keep my Leatherman Micra on my coffee table which gets used daily for this task or the other, I have the SOG in a custom fit pluck foam hard case inside of my survival bag. I might just order a second one even though it's larger but the functions and tools far exceed the Leatherman Micra. Again great video my friend 👍
Picked up the black painted PowerPint and returned for the Stonewash, night and day with regards to fit and feel when opening and closing tools. Compliments my newly replaced Skeletool and Sidekick. Very light and fidgety.
@@sterkriger2572 Yes, it was odd, did not have enough time with the black painted one admittedly (but checked it out as others had mentioned this), but the file on both sides felt more aggressive. Not sure if it was the paint that gave the file that feeling. The stonewash crosscut file side is adequate for most jobs, and the other side just doesn’t have much bite compared to Leathermans. It’s funny for me, the build quality is not worth the $50 they charge for this thing (cheaper on Amazon sales and AliExpress $30-40), but I’m drawn to it and enjoy using it.
I have been using the power pint for a few weeks and it’s not been quite what I enjoy from my power access and without the lock like the liter has it would come open in my pocket all the time so I had to add a small magnet to keep it locked. I do like the knife better than the access
I just want a premium powerpint in titanium with good blade steel, scissors that work better, and replace the can opener, bottle opener and cord cutter with something more useful to me. Maybe just more drivers
The size vs efficiancy / options of the powerpint is as far as now, unbeatable. Mini surge would be the way to go if only leatherman would wake up but i lost hope a long time ago when they did come up with a skeletool with a diffrent colour looool
If Roxon would make a mini frame for the Flex, I think it would shake the foundation of mini tools. Imagine if you had a Flex with a full plier head and you could put the bit driver on one side and whatever else on the other side to make it TSA compliant?
I was lucky my scissors are great on my Powerpint. If I could make a small multi tool it would consist of the Powerpint pliers with replacable wire cutters, 1/4 inch bit driver, higer quality blade steel, the scissors from a swiss army knife, a good file, and a set of compact double headed bits in a little case kinda like Leatherman does for their bits.
The PowerPint is the best “tool kit” in its size class, but the pocket clip is really awkward to use and only the pliers are one-hand accessible. It’s really impressive that the tools are all locking, but their quality is just ok… and the file and scissors are poor (the file could be ground into a prybar/scraper). I’m looking forward to trying the Octane (got one on the way… thanks for the suggestion!). I wonder if the blade could be swapped for 91 mm Victorinox scissors? But we’ll see, maybe I’ll like the blade…
For a pliers based mini multitools yeah SOG beats the compétition. Although will the W2 they are the most universal. You have pliers, and 1/4" bit driver so only for that they are the best. Your custom multitool is nice if manufacturers could take cues from it that would be great 😊
When I got the PP I was also considering the Mini Sailor. The PP is awesome for its size - I have 2 gripes though - one of the lock 'springs' snapped off, and the 1/4" driver unless its less than a moderately tight screw there is now way to hold the PP tight enough to prevent the bit from slipping in the jaws... The only change I'd like to see on it is a fine saw blade instead of the serrated knife blade. Its a regular carry - and gets used.
The only problem I have with thos muti os that it seems im the only person unlucky enough to always get one with a really loose ploer head, making it really dificult to cut multifilament wire. And I bought 3. So I think the should up the build quality of the multitool in general but the wire cutter first. Its a pain to have them fail every time I use them.
I just ordered the song Power pint recently $20 on sale from Amazon. Pretty impressive little tool I must say. All the tools lock, on the inside they have a plastic type lever release. Great video
I think I wil eventually pick up that Roxon to see how it feels. oh btw. Did you happen to buy that Bristol Line vintage multitool on ebay last week? It would be an awesome addition.
I have SOG PowerLitre for about 1 year now. It's compact size is good for EDC. At some time, I want to cut off the cork twister but nvm. But the locking mechanism (small black teeth) helps to lock scree hex bit and keep it locked in pocket. I wish it has bigger knife. Usually I just use the knife, scissors and pliers. I hope SOG can make it smaller by having only plier, bigger scissors, bigger knife, screw hex bit holder, ...arghh looks like better just buy Swiss Army for much smaller size
I have a SOG Powerpint and it is of fantastic build quality so I bought the next size up the Power Access and the build quality was horrible. The Power Access pliers were spongy, the handles misaligned when closing and the screws holding the implements keep falling off. On the other hand my Power Pint is fantastic and probably the best design in its class.
Based on all the reviews I was expecting to love the powerpint. but found that besides the pliers and bit holder, the tool is terrible. All of the in handle tools are brittle, and made terribly. I honestly think the tool could be so much better. In my opinion, they really missed the mark. But so many people love it, so I understand I am the outlier here.
I relly like the size, the toolset and the geared pliers, since the can be used folded to grab some bigger nuts (no pun intended). the design is really excellent in my opinion, with very little competiton in that size category. There are a few minor things I would change, like the access to the knife blade, and ditching the magnet in the bit holder (I don't want any magnets anywhere near my cards, regardless what the manufacturer claims). With mine, some of the tools needed a fair bit of work to cut properly (sharpening, re-peening the scissors...), all in all about an hour total of work. The tools haven't failed me so far (but then again, I use it as a light duty urban tool). I absolutely agree it could be improved, and I would really love to see a premium option from SOG, or alternatively a smaller version of the Spirit by Victorinox etc. I just feel that the mini multitools are neglected a bit by manufacturers in favour of the 4-5" tools.
It's just like that for every SOG multitool. The compound leverage plier is unique and incredibly good. They wouldn't have competition if they could make the tools as good as others, so still they are below average and leatherman and victorinox are on top. 😂
Yes, they have gret ideas tools, BUT decision to making it in china from shit metal, and shit quality is stupid. If it was made like old good quality in usa, I would pay 5 times more for it. Maybe somebody have friends in SOG to say that?😂
power pint has some useless tools, no flat head, small knife, opens too easily for the direction of the clip. If there was a slightly largle PS4 Squirt that would be the greatest option
Not counting my Swiss Army knives I have 4 LM and 2 LM wave clones, 1 LM Surge clone and the one tool I carry most in my pocket is the SOG Powerpint.. it’s so small and light you don’t even know it’s there.
I have had a SOG PP for a while now but never pull it out or put it in a kit. The only mid size device I carry is a Roxon KS2E. It doses not have a pliers, which I need maybe once a week. I've got my KS2E on order. Should be at my door on Monday. Seems like one of the best options for the size.

How’s the file in the stonewashed one? People complained as being non existent while the black had one more aggressive

👍🏼I never had a SOG PP but I like it for a small tool.
I so love locking ledge at PowerLifter and so hate that it eats long implement slot. It would be so good if SOG save file.
I love the PowerPint file. It's one of the best features. I use two 10x5x2mm magnets to keep my PowerPint closed and the bit driver locked in.
One little mod, Is has a habit of opening in my pocket. I have glued a button magnet where it opens and it’s just enough to keep it closed.
@@danniehenderson6980 Very cool!
I have mixed feels about the Power Pint. The pliers and bit driver are useful, but everything else is a bit poor.

I didn’t hear you mention whether the powerlitre scissors are any good. Or, are they the same as what’s in the power pint? Thanks
Same as the Powerpint.

Powerpint is still the king IMHO.

The link for Roxon M1 does not link to the plier in the clip. Would there be any mismatch for the model number?
Fixed it, sorry about that.
Are the scissors on the PowerLite as completely useless as the scissors on the PowerPint?
Yes. Both are designed for left handers. Right handers natural motion pushes the blades apart.
@@ParkerBinion Yeah I know. They suck just as bad using them with the left hand.
What about the gerber strata? It's also available on ali currently. Id love a m1 but they don't seem to be available in Australia so I've got the m2
I didn't include it because it's a bit heavy at 7.4oz and the Power Pint is 4.2oz But it is a nice tool!

No I didn't. Was it a victorinox style tool?
@@hvacbudget8600 No, something like the Voss Cut Co, but bigger.
I'd like to buy a multitool with a 3.5 to 3.75 inch frame size. Just small enough to be pocketable without seeming like a toy.
I carry a powerpint most days- not because it is the best tool or even my best tool BUT because it is small enough for me to have anytime
Same here, very much like using the phone as a camera even though a big dslr can do more.
I wish that SOG Sync came with a flush cutting diagonal cutter instead of pliers.
Please gry out Multitool Bosch 13 w 1
How he cut etc.
great comparison!
Thanks!
Leatherman Mini?
That would definitely be one but I was trying to pick models more easily available.
@hvacbudget8600 the sog belt buckle model might be the closest thing to a knock off of the mini
Why is the NextTool mini sailor not on this list? Equally as functional as a PowerPint
Probably so but it is a fair bit smaller.
@hvacbudget8600 how about Nextool Flagship Pro or Sailor Pro, if extra weight was not a concern?
In AliExpress, there is no Roxon M1.😅
