We all know that zoom's amp modeling was never the best, but usable tones are possible with some tweaking. 1 thing nobody ever mentions is that ALL of zoom's pedals have universal effect slots. What I mean is you can put ANY effect in ANY slot. If I want 3 distortions and 2 delays or 2 of the same distortion and 3 reverbs etc, I can do that with the zoom. There's nothing else in this range that can do that. Plus the fact that you can add or remove effects from the unit itself, and usb midi is possible. Pretty incredible for budget gear
Been playing for 25 years and my daughter recently started learning, I got her one of these yeaterday and I'm really impressed with it for what it is. If I had something like this for that price back in the late 90's it would have been amazing, such good value for money.
I had the ZOOM 505 multi effects processor back in the late 90's . I would spend hours scrolling through patches. Got the GX1 Four as a Christmas gift and down the rabit hole I have gone. I am going to hook it up to a PC to get the most out of it. This is going to be hours of entertainement and fun with all the effects. plus a decent wha, looper and rthym. oh yeah the tuner is very good too, was intonating a guitar with it and it does a fantastic job. ZOOM did it again this is a great tool for any guitarist at any level.
I love my Zoom G1 Four so much for busking, I'm thinking of getting a second one for backup. I like that I can power it with four rechargable AA batteries and I find it's amp models sound just fine to my ears. I think it would be really interesting to do a blind shootout between Zoom and some of the newer hyped pedals like Tonex or Line 6.
I got one last year at a Chicago pawn shop for $50.00 US. Then I forgot about it, and kept using my old Korg axg 1500. I watched this video, and omg! I can’t believe I ignored this. Thanks!
Thanks brother! I was trying to decide whether the zoom GX1 four would provide enough cool sounds / effects, or whether I would have to spend more on a pricer guitar multi-effect pedal (e.g. maybe look for a used line 6 pod go), but your zoom GX1 demo sounds were very impressive. Thank you for running through the sound bank samples! like 47!

@@thepedalpicassos no lie, I'm still using the Zoom PS02 that I bought used 22 years ago. Out of all my gear, I still use it regularly for practice and hashing out ideas. I had an old zoom many years, i forgot the model but that sounded good. Then I had the G1xfour, Its even better.. i had other multifx after the g1xfour, Boss Me80, G3xn, Nux mg300, mg30, they all beat the g1xfour in terms of features but I always lean towards the tone of the Zoom effects. I'm planning to buy a g1xfour again because it gives me all the tones that I need
That's very interesting to me! You may have just saved me £119! I have the G1X Four, but was thinking about gambling on the NuX MG-300, which got my attention due to its 48k sampling, and the fact it allows 9 effects running simultaneously. I need good quality sound, and good sounding effects, on a budget, for recording purposes. I don't care about the looper or drums.
Great review... thanks! I saw a GX1on in use recently by an acoustic performer while I was on a recent holiday in Bali. I sat in with him and sing, which was cool. Came looking for reviews and found this, so I have some decisions to make! lol. Wouldn't it be good if these pedals had a second connectable pedal or panel that you could mount at hand height, say on a mic stand, for easy selections without bending down while performing, in addition to the foot switch?
I bought of these a year ago and I'm still finding cool new stuff it will do. But one of these and you can put most of your other effects boxes in storage.
I just ordered one of these. I am not a musician, just somebody who has taught himself how to play the guitar a bit over the years. I am not great at it, but I have a lot of fun! I just bought something called a Cube Baby for under $40.00 and it actually works very well, but is a bit too small for my tastes. It also does not have the drum loops like this Zoom does. My only concern about this Zoom is that it appears to be all plastic, which is a bit surprising. I would probably never break it, but it seems to me somebody using this all the time with their feet would do some damage to it. Even the Cube Baby is all metal. What experiences have some of you had with it long term?
Hey Rob!! Just got mine today, I ordered it from Amazon and they sent it to my old address and I moved away from there. But my old neighbour got it delivered to his unit by accident and he contacted me to let me know it was there which was super nice of him. So I picked it up today and it’s pretty wicked. This is a long shot, but got any opinion on how it compares to the Donner Arena 2000? Trying decide between the 2- wondering why you're a fan of the Zoom GIX over other (often far more feature-heavy and expensive) models
Bought that pedal some time back, but today my ears were opened to what it can do. I loved your intro. Your guitar playing is dope. Your demo is top shelf. What guitar is that, if I may ask?
Are sounds similar or better than the Zoom MS-50G (which I already have on my pedal board ) ? I'm thinking this could be better in live situations. Thanks, always great videos and playing. 👍
Thanks for the compliments mate! I’m pretty sure the sounds are identical to the MS50G - which I also have on my pedalboard as an additional reverb/vibrato/univibe/eq. Easier switching with the G1-X, but it’s a real estate trade off.
I have one, the looper is a little frustrating and some of the volumes need to be adjusted or they just blow up. Overall it’s fun, it’s like the sampler plate at a restaurant without ordering every entree
I just purchased this exact unit. Question: How would you recommend to set the controls (treble, mids, bass) of the amplifier you're going through to serve as a baseline audio starting point that you'd then further tweak with the G1X Four? If the treble, mids, and bass (1 - 10 scale on each knob) are set to 5 on each, would that be the way to set those so that you'd have equal amounts of cut or boost (- or +) for each range? Or, would you first set those amp controls with the guitar going straight through it (bypassing the pedal) to be a good audio mix to one's ears, first?
This looks good for use in studio or for practice, but for playing a gig where you want to use your feet, it looks like it falls short. I need a replacement for my ME-70, and while I'm not a fan of the stacked types of sounds (meaning you can only use one effect at a time per stack), I do like the ability to start and stop each stack with my foot, as well as add and subtract stacks.
I no longer gig after after 45 yrs I jam with my old band mates and I've downsized and sold most of my Guitars and pedals. I play now through a Crate GT 65 with footswitch that was a amp I used at small venues. It has great built in effects and it allows me to use several at the same timeOur drummer died and I'm considering getting a looper but after seeing you demo of the GX1 Four and with the price drop I'm seeing now of 99.00 online there in most cases less than a most loopers and I have so many patches. So should I buy a dedicated drum machine to use or get a looper with a drum patches?
I use this pedal everyday for over a year now. The (wha wha)used to work really good for me, I’ve tried create my own patches for clean and distortion which are okay. The wha wha pedal is trouble, I cannot create the (wha) sound it had a year ago
I've watched dozens of videos about this unit and 99% of them make no mention about the Zoom Guitar Lab software. You connect via USB and it gives you an infinitely easier to use and a more attractive user interface. The program gives you access to additional effects and patches to the unit including the infamous Boss Metal Zone.
No dumb questions here mate! Digital processing has continued to improve, so the G1Four is sonically better, particularly in relation to amp simulations and high gain settings. Reverb algorithms will be noticeably better too.
Thank you very much for the reply. I haven't played for more than 20 years. Just retired, so now I have time to get back into it. Opinion on the best sounding multi effects under 200? @thepedalpicassos
Great video. I’ve had this for a few years. Just bought the Boss Katana Artist but haven’t tried connecting it yet…I saw your Boss amp on your right. I’m assuming I just keep the Boss set to “Acoustic” as a bypass on the amp effects?
How do you remove an effect from the chain-I just don't want it "off"-I want it removed from the chain. Also, is there a software interface for this device where I could attach it to my PC and make changes to the presets? Thanks in advance!
I don’t think you can “remove” the effect from the chain and being a digital emulation it makes no sonic difference. I’m pretty sure it works with the Zoom MS50G utility software. github.com/g200kg/zoom-ms-utility
Hello I don t know ,sounds horrible to my ears , does it sounds better than the mooer ge150 ? Thanks ,cause I have that one...and think about a little change
Can anyone tell me how you would you attach the Zoom to a Bose PA? I don't see any XLR's on the unit. Really don't have any amps. My gigs will be mostly acoustic, but I want to add some textures to the acoustic. Thanks for your help in advance.
@@thepedalpicassos Yes Sir- that was very helpful. Initially, I was looking at the most up to date pedals-Quad Core, Fractal, etc-Holy crap-those are like $2000 dollars. All I need is a pedal that will add some texture to an acoustic guitar and allow me to use my Les Paul for a few of the electric songs I/we cover. Thank you again-best regards.
MG30 is better. This Zoom is great as a backup in case something takes a shit. The Zoom also takes batteries, so it has 3 modes of power options (battery, 9volt plug or usb power).
Great video! Looking to pick one of these up. Do you know if you can switch effects while using the looper? I want to play a clean rhythm and then solo with some distortion.
Hi Jim. I believe you can switch say, an overdrive module in by selecting one of the 1 - 5 buttons, but the footswitches are assigned to looper functions when in looper mode.
Lots of comments but thought I'd ask again even if redundant. Most gear sounds better on UA-cam than live and in person. So I'll rely more on your or someone else personal experience. For the price it's hard to believe the effects are this good. I was told by a Sweetwater rep when looking into this that a headrush MX5 or another modeling pedal was be 'far' better. Do you believe the quality of tone and the other effect are quality not just 'good for the money'? Thanks either way.
G’day mate. As the owner of tube amps (some I’ve built myself), a HeadRush Gigboard, heaps of pedals, I consider myself no gear snob. Last gig I put together a board to suit acoustic and electric. I had a Zoom MS50G for some eq and reverb for acoustic and had a Joyo American as my electric amp sim. That pedal is $65. We are lucky to live in an age where we are spoiled for choice. The G1X Four is value for money. Spend another $1000 and sure, you might get nicer sounds, but 90% of your audience won’t know. Cheers!
@@Xenox745 i would think with some of the blues tones it comes with and especially taking advantage of the zoom usb and their program for it you could easily add one if the ones on it arent quiet what your looking for. Saw some other videos and it produces some insane blues tones
Fun pedal, but i need to take off my shoe and use my big toe, if i want to use it as a " foot" pedal. Easy to make mistakes playing live with it. Open mic etc.
My bigest gripe is the quality of IR. The 40$ Cuvave sound way better, the valeton too. But I realy like the interface of the zoom, the controls the options, etc. I think that Zoom should keep at it is and add better IR, better sound quality. Maybe make one with 7 effects instead of the anemic 5 where you can use 4 just for cab, amp and noise gate and reverb leaving just one for an effect you might need. Then add an extra pedal with swith for each effect and switching mode and they would have a huge winner. Disrupt yourself or get disrupted by others.

What song is that at the beginning
This may be a dumb question but I have been out of the game for a while. How much better is the g1 4 than the old zoom 505s?
No dumb questions here mate! Digital processing has continued to improve, so the G1Four is sonically better, particularly in relation to amp simulations and high gain settings. Reverb algorithms will be noticeably better too.
Thank you very much for the reply. I haven't played for more than 20 years. Just retired, so now I have time to get back into it.
Opinion on the best sounding multi effects under 200? @thepedalpicassos
How do you record with this thing?
I just went straight from the output into my audio interface.
What amplifier are you playing through, I have to get a new pedal.
No amp at all. Straight into the recording software.
@@thepedalpicassos what recording software are you using?
Great video.
I’ve had this for a few years. Just bought the Boss Katana Artist but haven’t tried connecting it yet…I saw your Boss amp on your right. I’m assuming I just keep the Boss set to “Acoustic” as a bypass on the amp effects?
Hi mate. Line in on the Katana will give you the power amp only. You can then see how the G1X compares to everything available in the Katana.
This or the Flamma FX100? For practice. Could it work in conjunction with other pedals?
so can i just use the volume expression pedal by it self?? cant find a video on this?
How is this for gigging? Is there a way to switch effects on the fly like if you had multiple pedals?
Yes, you can select stomp mode and turn individual effects on and off.
@@thepedalpicassos Thank you for your response.
How much! If I'm ordering it and shipping it to Tanzania east africa
Hi Gadiel. Plenty of online options for you. Try and support your local music store if you can!
@@thepedalpicassos dude litterally said tarzania. 😂. He may needs to go to Sweetwater or musicians friend or guitar center Dot com
Hello I don t know ,sounds horrible to my ears , does it sounds better than the mooer ge150 ? Thanks ,cause I have that one...and think about a little change
Hi Ouzo! The Mooer GE150 is a great little pedal too! I wouldn’t change if I were you. Just keep tweaking the Mooer to get sounds you like.
@@thepedalpicassos ok , thanks for the info 👍👍👍👍
Hey there, mine one is hanging, could you help me out...!!!
Can anyone tell me how you would you attach the Zoom to a Bose PA? I don't see any XLR's on the unit.
Really don't have any amps. My gigs will be mostly acoustic, but I want to add some textures to the acoustic. Thanks for your help in advance.
Yeah! I have a Bose L1 and a Bose S1. The inputs take XLR and guitar cables! They’re multi jacks! Hope that helps!
Which is better for you zoomg1four or nux mg300
Haven’t tried the Nux yet. I’m sure it’s good.
MG30 is better. This Zoom is great as a backup in case something takes a shit. The Zoom also takes batteries, so it has 3 modes of power options (battery, 9volt plug or usb power).
hello may i ask if it possible to record directly on a phone? thank you.
If you have the correct cables - yes!
I have this pedal too, great pedal!
It’s pretty awesome!!!
Cheers!
Do you need a specific amp, I have a fender champion 20 will that work with the pedal?
Any amp will work but youll want to run in clean channel to let this pedal shine and do its work
Yep! Agreed!!
So will it be good for like rocky blues music?
@@Xenox745 i would think with some of the blues tones it comes with and especially taking advantage of the zoom usb and their program for it you could easily add one if the ones on it arent quiet what your looking for. Saw some other videos and it produces some insane blues tones
Almost all these presets have distortion in one way or another. Why not have some cleaner presets with Reverb, Tremolo, chorus, etc.?
Fun pedal, but i need to take off my shoe and use my big toe, if i want to use it as a " foot" pedal. Easy to make mistakes playing live with it. Open mic etc.
Agreed. It’s not perfect. But it sounds good and is budget friendly!
On sale for 90 bucks here.
Great deal!
I don't think you should use an amp sim or cab sim when going directly into an amp
Agreed! The pedal was direct into the recording preamp. There’s no rules though! Sometimes the best sounds come from unorthodox approaches.
Hei, what are soundcard youre recommended using for it?
I’m using a Behringer UMC404hd, which are great value, easy to use and sound great. The 202 is even cheaper.
Work for acoustic guitarr
Sure. Set a very clean amp, eq, reverb and delay!
"Hot Spice" sounds like someone in the bathroom after having Indian food.
hah!
i hate the small delay problem in Zoom G1X four its ennoying, is there any solution
\m/
I think Rod is showing off a little bit in this video! Ha ha ha.
@@thepedalpicassos Ya think? :o/
Sounds like a $50 multieffx pedal. Not impressed. You get what you pay for I guess.
sounds good to me
Good One - cool sound.. - missing mainly the Tap tempo
