This is exactly the use case I see for this pedal. Easily does what the three big Strymons and an H9 would do in a tiny footprint. And also has the ability to do a front of an amp situation if need be.

Andy - love your videos. I am now of the mindset that modeling is 99.9% of what a tube amp gives you. I’ve taken modelers on gigs and done direct into the mix, and the sound guy is like “dude you sound sick.” Especially small gigs in tiny bars and clubs - I can’t wheel my half stack in there. Also, if you are interested, I know some good folks with Lime Kiln Theater just up 81 in Lexington Virginia. Great, intimate venue and would love to get you on the bill for next summer. You and Uncle Ben in tow.
Appreciate the insight into how this piece of gear could be utilized in the real world. Appears it could be an entire pedalboard in a pinch, but rather applies as something that can cover 90% of what's needed. Small as can be, yet powerful as can be. Exp pedal is a must though, IMO. Great video.
I am interested in knowing if it negatively impacts the original signal, especially in a 4CM setup since it does a full AD/DA conversion. I have a FM3 already I use direct into PC and use a board built around the Friedman IR-D tube preamp with external FX.
@@CrookedMonkey-band EVERY piece of gear from EVERY manufacturer will do something. This is as small and not noticeable as any top end unit should be. This is on par with Eventide/strymon etc.
Excellent timing for me! Just got my Bogner 3534 50w head and have a bunch of stuff in the FX loop, but I'd much rather have a single device. I was considering an HX FX but this seems like a much better option. Only downside is four buttons, but if you can control it with extra buttons in a MIDI controller, I.e. patch/scene changes etc then it's a winner!
Andy, you were saying you need another webcam for a second screen. I'm sure you have a good phone. There are free apps that will allow you to use your phone as a webcam via Wifi or USB. I use one called Iriun Webcam. There are others you can experiment with too. I keep all my old phones and use them around the studio as webcams.
Andy, if you brought this to a session or gig and someone says “did you bring a baritone or 12 string?” how would you feel about using the pitch shift on Vp4? Would it do something similar to digitech drop tune or mosaic? Or better? I imagine since fractal quality and latency is so good you might get by. But I am an old school guy, love a real bari of course. Thanks.

That’s what I do with my FM9. Effects only, no amp or cab modeling, connect four cable method to my Bogner head. And the crazy expansive internal parallel routing is so cool. Then again, this new Fractal unit sounds just as immense.

The power of this unit allows for quite a bit of singular use for basic Amp/Cab/Mod/Verb or Dly/Verb. But effects stacking is incredible if you throw it in the loop. If you really need to be blown away, the Axe FX III will allow effects stacking that's almost multi-dimensional. Seemingly with no limit to creative use.

I think it’s def worth an hour of your time. At minimum try it with the cable into computer. Happy hunting brethren!

@@MOAB-UT I enjoy the constant use of “son” seems I’ve hit a nerve. 1- I said what I said because the big 3 strymon pedals is around $1300. That’s still just 3 choices of effects at a time. VP4 gives more simultaneous (4) for cheaper, and the effect quality is on par, all while being smaller than any given 4 pedals on the market. The price point for what it does is in no away even close to an “insult”, that’s a melodramatic comment and one I wanted to address. 2- chill out, don’t be so offended. 3- it’s no secret I’ve worked with fractal for years, dating back to 2014 with the Stapp proof of life tour. This little pedal is something I’ve wanted them to do for a very long time, and was honored they asked me to do some factory presets for it. Obviously you can put 2 and 2 together. I’m not some maniacal ego driven asshole that you so desperately want to paint me into, and clearly I love cliff and matt and the fractal team. I enjoy working with them, I enjoy gear, tone and creating things that help the gigging musician solve issues. Go back and read #2 again.

They did nothing to improve the dated UI and four effects is a tease. Their clear goal is to keep the consumer coming back and buying more. I can't disagree more. Have you sized the Strymon pedals? or the helix stomp? Or the UA pedals? This is ultra high level effects, not a digitech unit ;)
thanks for the video but every one should save there money for 200 more you can have an fm3 which is way better. or really do yourselves a favor and get a quad cortex they are better than anything fractal has ever made.
QC is great and fun but doesn’t top my FM9 Turbo. Love playing with the captures but it’s a backup to my FM9 which has way more configurability and performance options. If you are a metal player and use 3 sounds, maybe QC in that scenario is equal. And yes I’d rather have a QC than an FM3 but the FM9 and AxeFx 3 is way more powerful.

You would run it as a stereo unit in the loop or the front end. It can do either stereo or 4cm mono. Not both.

I have an epic pedalboard which also features Golden Reverb, Trio+, The Dude, The SRV inspired Duelist, Boss DD500 Delay, Neunaber Immerse, Boss Dimension-C/Waza Craft DC-2W, Diamond Compressor/EQ, and much more. I even owned a Fractal FM9. So you are suggesting there is a good value for the average consumer/home player to spend nearly a grand, after tax and shipping on this thing? 4 effects? Surely you are joking. We are not all fancy, affluent musicians like yourself. I speak for the average home player. You speak more like, the elite. A bit of a snob. Let me ask you Andy- did Fractal give you anything to plug this thing? Be honest- we can find out. Your credibility is on the line son.
@@MOAB-UT I enjoy the constant use of “son” seems I’ve hit a nerve.
1- I said what I said because the big 3 strymon pedals is around $1300. That’s still just 3 choices of effects at a time. VP4 gives more simultaneous (4) for cheaper, and the effect quality is on par, all while being smaller than any given 4 pedals on the market. The price point for what it does is in no away even close to an “insult”, that’s a melodramatic comment and one I wanted to address.
2- chill out, don’t be so offended.
3- it’s no secret I’ve worked with fractal for years, dating back to 2014 with the Stapp proof of life tour. This little pedal is something I’ve wanted them to do for a very long time, and was honored they asked me to do some factory presets for it. Obviously you can put 2 and 2 together. I’m not some maniacal ego driven asshole that you so desperately want to paint me into, and clearly I love cliff and matt and the fractal team. I enjoy working with them, I enjoy gear, tone and creating things that help the gigging musician solve issues.

For folks like you, dropping nearly a grand for four (4) effects is no big deal. For the average Joe, they would be far better served grabbing a slightly used FM3 for around the same price. It would provide them with far more capability including amps. Understand this- I like and appreciate Fractal gear. I was really hoping they would up their game with their next hardware release. This was very disappointing to me. They did nothing to improve the dated UI and four effects is a tease. It reminds me of how they watered down (CPU) the FM3 so people would have to upgrade or buy additional pedals- the whole OMG thing. OMG that is annoying. Their clear goal is to keep the consumer coming back and buying more. Yes, you hit a nerve when you replied back insulting me right out of the gate, assuming I don't have or know anything about those common pedals. I have been playing longer than you- son. I am not on anyone's payroll so I can speak the truth. If Line6 was paying your rent, I know people like you would be shouting from the rooftops how great their products are even if in private you hate them. I think that is called selling out but hey, you do you.

I can't disagree more. Have you sized the Strymon pedals? or the helix stomp? Or the UA pedals? This is ultra high level effects, not a digitech unit ;)
If the effects are the same "code-wise" as the other fractal products. The FM3 is still a better deal.

thanks for the video but every one should save there money for 200 more you can have an fm3 which is way better. or really do yourselves a favor and get a quad cortex they are better than anything fractal has ever made.
QC is great and fun but doesn’t top my FM9 Turbo. Love playing with the captures but it’s a backup to my FM9 which has way more configurability and performance options. If you are a metal player and use 3 sounds, maybe QC in that scenario is equal. And yes I’d rather have a QC than an FM3 but the FM9 and AxeFx 3 is way more powerful.
