I didn't know tom macdonald released 10 albums this year, good for him
He released 50 so it was difficult to trim it down for me to just top ten Best of the year
He's like the king gizzard of conservative rap
absolutely incredible run from tom this year
Tom McDonald wouldn’t be able to see this comment or this video bc hivemind is blocked
Good for him, bad for us
Graydon is the* MF from that "I Think You Should Leave" sketch that threw all of the obscure jazz artist references into the charades game
Omg htf did you get that spot on
LMFAOOO HERBIE
Let me explain something to you. If you think you’re going to be eating something ice cold and you bring it up to your lips and it’s room temp, it’s going to feel like your mouth’s on fire. It’s gonna feel like your body’s on fire.
Where be your Nutcracker
Not a single Roy Donk album in this whole video. Meat and potatoes.
Predicting uzi’s cover of chop suey to be both of their best songs of the year
Close
i really struggled to not put that and go with Tom MacDonald’s masterpiece song, “Stronger Version”.
I somehow read this as U2 and I thought I missed a chapter
Graydon’s list is so based so far!! I’m only on number 3, I think number 2 is gonna be amazing!
I legitimately can’t tell if he was joking or not
@@MC_Ticklehe listens LPs each one subsequently, i believe
bro sweet is so good
Take a shot every time Riley says “[genre] revival”
“hyperpop revival” like breh the genre is like barely 5 years old lol
@@solidjames5704hyperpop is like 7yo
My favorite album this year was dignans family photo album from their trip to Disney world. Specifically the Epcot part of the trip was insane
While I agree with you i think it was very controversial for dignan and his mom to jump that 5 year old at the guardians of the galaxy ride
So happy for his mom and Dan Marino the seems to truly be in love
@@InspectahReese Whatever, man. Tripsy deserved better, Dan Marino is a cheater. He totally switched up on the Marino family.
love the stop motion, guys! didn’t know ya’ll had the budget to pull it off but it looks great, riley and graydon almost look real!
Yeah why is the video so choppy
hozier's album 'unreal unearth' blew everything else out of the water for me. so beautiful, so flawlessly written. i urge anyone who hasn't checked it out to listen - once for how gorgeous it sounds, and again for the lyricism. It's based around dante's inferno and the rings of hell, and somehow makes it palatable and relatable to everyone. looking into the lyrics and their references only adds a deeper layer of genius to the work, but it's not necessary to appreciate the beauty of the album. okay back to jokes. haha dignan's album with his collection of rotating characters was so inspiring and deep. so many sounds one couldnt imagine working on an album. and they dont.
I went through the hardest break-up of my life over these past few months and that album broke me. It will always have a special place in my heart for that, and I have always loved Hozier's work, but that album in particular was just, wow.
I know this will get lost in the middle of all the comments, but i really want to thank the boys for helping me through a difficult phase of my life. I started watching hivemind early 23 and its my favourite youtube channel by a wide margin, i love the community, i love the videos and y'all have such a good impact on your viewers (at least on me). i discovered new music from your videos throughout the year, which helped me a lot to pass by that phase. Thank you both (and everyone involved) for being such a great and positive influence on my 2023.
i swear to god i feel exactly the same i might just copy and paste this
I was definitely expecting a plot twist at the end 😭
@@simplycharming123”thanks for being the greatest, y’all’s content made me forget that dj grant kidnapped my little brother and made him sing despacito at a comic-con!”
the album that really stuck with me this year was Space Heavy by King Krule. 2023 was the year I fell in love with his sound and Space Heavy got me into it
I saw him live this year and it was one of my favorite concerts ever.
Same ong, I heard seaforth and was hooked- i now love every single one of his albums and is probably my current favorite artist
Based
@@runaway_hideout Saw it live before listening to it. I cannot stop listening to it now. The live performance was the best concert I ever saw. Orgasmic
phenomenal album, seagirl is probably my favourite song of this year
the fact that I'm a fan of these men and yet I sit here with zero clue of what the hell either of them are talking about...love my music freaks!
Same only listened one of these albums
i think a "what are we listening to" segment could be really cool for this channel
My favorite album of the year was Hozier's Unreal Unearth. It genuinely made me feel more feeling than almost anything else has this years so that's why it's my #1

my favorite jazzrambler on the internet is at it again
My favorite of the year is definitely Javelin by Sufjan Stevens. Such a painful and real depiction of grief and loneliness. The song “Shit Talk” from the album is definitely my song of the year
petition for a dignan top 10 cast of characters list, number 1 pick gets spayed live on patreon
Graydon, you have to see BLUE GIANT. An amazing jazz anime film that premiered this year with a full s-tier soundtrack done by Hiromi. Such a moving film.
2023 was the best year for music for me ever. I found so many new artists i love even tho most of them are from the 90s and dont make music anymore
wallsocket by underscores was everything i wanted from april and more, i got to see her live and fell in love with it even more. Also the leaked b-sides and alt edits are perfection as well, beyond exited to see what she does next

3D Country by Geese is an album I love more and more every time I listen to it. It’s crept its way into my top 2-3 now. I think 2023 has actually been a great year. 10,000 Gecs, Desire…, Rat Saw God, Scaring the Hoes, Quaranta, both Billy Woods albums, Mckinely Dixon, etc.
Agreed on 3D Country, I liked it on release but I've grown to absolutely adore the album. Would highly recommend seeing them live if you are able to.

Victory Music was my number 1 album of the year and I haven't seen anyone mention it. Thanks Riley.
Riley talk about his favorite songs “it’s so genre bending and progressive in the current state of music. It’s hyper pop melded with shoegaze and the artist is my best friend”
Gradon “it’s just so fun”
I didn't realize Riley was such a big Field Medic fan! That was rad to find out. My list for this year was:
10: Field Medic - light is gone 2
9: Subsonic Eye - All Around You
8: Full of Hell & Primitive Man - Suffocating Hallucination
7: Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist - Voir Dire

4: ENTHEOS - Time Will Take Us All
3: KNOWER - KNOWER FOREVER
2: So!YoON! - Episode1 : Love
1: EABS meets Jaubi - In Search of a Better Tomorrow
I definitely think Graydon would like the EABS album! Two jazz powerhouses coming together for such a cool project.
Kinda crazy being released 8 years ago and still making the 10 spots. Kid Cudi is truly a master of his craft.
chris crack is one of my favorite artists and this is the first time I hear someone talk about him on the internet, glad to see him getting recognition

10. GUTS - Olivia Rodrigo
My top album this year was Noah khans, the folk pop and lyrics that sit perfectly on my heart even when I don’t exactly relate to a lot of it
my favorite album of the year has to be Census Designated by Jane Remover. Frailty was such a curveball for hyper pop, it was almost like an “Astroworld” for hyper pop for me, and census designated almost felt like a direct sequel to frailty. it expanded upon the world it built an album prior to an almost better quality
Let’s start here is my number 1 so creative and a leap of faith and it works well with yachts voice
underscores mentioned !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love underscores !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would absolutely smoke a space cigarette with Graydon and listen to him ramble about jazz.
graydon putting Music From Big Pink by The Band at #3 is interesting, considering it was released in 1968

8) The Barbie Album
9) Voir Dire by Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist
10) Pink Tape by Lil Uzi Vert
SOS is from 2022.
AOTY for me is Grog by Frog. Frog are a duo from NYC that make indie rock with lost of elements of pop and country/americana. This album is very unique instrumentally and fun to listen to but the lyrical content shines. They are very funny and quirky at points but also sad, nostalgic and deeply beautiful. For example, a song on this album that has made me cry multiple times starts out with the line "Gonna take the bass line out to lunch, gonna make a bowl of captain crunch". Frog forever
I saw this comment weeks ago on my work computer so couldn't respond but felt so crazy seeing Frog mentioned! Been listening to them on and off since like 2016, they make some very nice stuff. All dogs go to heaven is like top 50 songs OAT for me for sure

2023 had some fuckin heat, there’s amazing music coming out every year
My favorite album of the year was Heavy Heavy by Young Fathers. (Cocoa Sugar is my favorite album of theirs overall.) They’re an amazing mix of soul, hip hop, and punk. Loud bass, amazing production, varied vocals, and great lyrics. I saw them open for Depeche Mode earlier this month and was astonished.
So glad to see Wednesday get an honourable mention. Rat Saw God and Twin Plagues are both front to back bangers, love their sound and really down to earth lyricism. Such a cool band.
Also! Check out their 2022 cover album - Mowing the Leaves Instead of Piling 'em Up. Their rendition of Women Without Whiskey is fucking incredible.

4. Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!
5. Quaranta
6. Utopia
7. And Then You Pray For Me

My fave album of the year by far snuck into December: Soft Rock by Thy Slaughter. A supergroup team-up of PC Music powerhouses AG Cook and EASYFUN, including contributions from Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX, and SOPHIE among others. An awesome blend of hyperpop sounds and soft rock song structures, very beautiful and also full of straight jams. Some incredible guitar work and production choices. The song Immortal with Caroline on vocals is imo the best track of the year hands-down. I feel like you guys (and fans of the channel) would love it!

this Paul Cherry album Pure Grooves Vol. 1 has been on repeat since the recommendation, ty Graydon ❤
Riley I knew you had some interesting tastes. Honestly I didn’t really enjoy any of the singles you talked about except for your top 3, but I appreciated you sharing. I think I’m probably just not conditioned to the genres cause these were wild for me.
Graydon. Your singles were easier on the ears for me. I enjoyed the Paul cherry song quite a bit. Up and Down by medasin is so good holy shit. I don’t like peaches and eggplants or the hillbillies. I feel like you look for more traditional ways to evolve music where as Riley is into the new ways to evolve music. At least that’s the way I think. Both have great picks

so awesome that graydon shouted out so much jazz. every year end list is the same now and graydon shouts out hiromi at number 1. so fucking dope bro never stop jazz rambling i didnt even know hiromi dropped this gonna check it asap
I loved Honey by Samia so much. I think it is an album album and it felt consistent to me. Some songs had to grow on me, but even at the end of this year i’m still returning to the album as a whole, a lot. Just great writing. The beat switch in Sea Lions is fucking insane.
Yes! That album doesn‘t come up in many 2023 lists. Sea Lions is a highlight of the year. Her Tiny Desk concert is so great.
funeral - gorepack
can of bliss - myrtle broadway & the big bang theory
patrick o’neill - i am having so much fun
I really hope sampha is mentioned on theese lists.
shoutout to supercolliders album and ep from this year, small artist that i think deserves some love. other than that aoty for me is unironically queef underground
AD 78 (LXXVIII) was a common year starting on Thursday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar. At the time, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Novius and Commodus (or, less frequently, year 831 Ab urbe condita). The denomination AD 78 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years.

Gonna try to shoutout an underground band by the name of “Liquid Bravery” here, they dropped one of my favorite albums of the year and they only have 11 monthly listeners at the moment. Anyone reading this should try to check them out!!!! They’re awesome
Thanks for all the recommendations, I haven’t listened to most of these
