    With a lot of these amps you'll find an app for your phone that'll let you set it up and configure (uses the network), Have a look on the appstore for a Yamaha remote app

    Hey don't bash Yamaha caps! lol Actually that's suppose to say Yamaha Audio as it's their own brand of caps. Not audiophoolery. This is a high end receiver for it's time, I think one under their highest end receiver due to the lack of inputs at the back, and yes there are higher end ones so loaded with inputes it will make your head spin. They still use single mosfets for sound to cut down on noise and better power delivery. The reason why they still make their own caps along with Marantz and McIntosh is because they are larger then audio caps these days, better storage of power. Which equates to better bass output / power delivery. Their high end component amplifiers still have the monster 2" diameter filter caps. I fix amplifiers new and old, large / custom caps just did it better.

    that device might have been an employee doing a trash hide on a peice of equipment that was supposed to go into storage. the way a trash bag just happened to be sitting on top of it seems suspicious if you hadn't found it before you started rolling video (you probably did though so i don't know how it looked when you walked in). an underhanded thing that some employees will do is take something to the trash instead of to storage then dig it out of the trash before they go home, you might wanna ask around your building and find out where it came from, because it might be technically stolen.

      @@EEVblog depending on the company it would be breaking some rules by discarding perfectly functional equipment instead of selling it off. keep in mind that a publicly traded companies shareholders would shit a brick if even a thousand dollars was needlessly thrown away in its entirety. if your companies over there function like that without getting into trouble, it's only a matter of time until people do start pitching a fit. its pure financial irresponsibility and it ends up with people getting fired over here in the states. if the device had had any problems that would be one thing, but throwing away an almost new and quite valuable piece of equipment is a huge nono here in the states, people get fired for allot less, even company ceos.

    • @kght222
      @kght222 5 років тому +2

      in other words, a device like that would have been given away to an employee, not thrown in the garbage. and as i stated if they device had had any problems, yeah, to the garbage it goes, doesn't matter if it can be fixed because arranging the fix and paying for it would likely cost more than the device. but throwing away crap that works perfectly fine is a HUGE corporate nono. if your the employee or manager, you might as well start filing for unemployment.

      @@kght222 Its possible one or more HDMI ports are faulty as the solder joints can easily fail if you tug on the cables too much.
      My Sony, even though it uses a discrete board for the HDMI ports (unlike this one) so should have been piss easy to repair, was basically junked by the store (under warranty) because Sony no longer manufactured the part.

    • @kght222
      @kght222 5 років тому +1

      @@alexatkin certainly wouldn't rule out an intermittent fault on the device. my problem is with the lack of external damage. i don't know if folk throw away crap the same way elsewhere, but i'm certainly not sitting something down when it goes into a bin, it gets chucked. and hell, even with a slight intermittent fault like that, nobody working there wanted to take it home? yeah, there can be some issues with that some places, but the solution isn't to just throw it away. btw if all these trash treasures are coming from the same building, i would guess that someone needs to do a serious audit of those companies, because everything is wrong.

    Just FYI, I have had 3 similar Yamaha HTAs across my bench in the last year or so and every one had a fault in the standby power circuit. All different models but same basic layout. all 3 faults were temperature dependent and due to altered/low value capacitors (the red polyester ones) in the capacitor dropper circuit that gets the standby function up from power on. I don't usually repair very much but these amps all belonged to friends! A fourth, older one, had a small mains transformer for the standby function that also was intermittent with temperature. It could be that your one was thrown away due to no signs of life but is now in a warmer place so the fault is not evident, maybe?

    That is a very decent current spec AV amp (4K support), I'll take it! And Yamaha audio equipment is some of the best there is, especially in the pro market.

    We are talking about $500 msrp in 2016. Here's the funny thing. This receiver has got a ton of tech packed in and does 80W RMS per channel. Meanwhile same model line A-S801 stereo IA 100w per channel, not 7.2 rubbish, almost zero tech build in, priced $1000 msrp. Go figure.

    nice find...youre a lucky bastard Dave! :P
    the wrapped wire around the cables might have something to do with signal?..they all seem to be grounded..maybe like a noise choke like a ferrite?

      Choke was what I was thinking to because those wires run really close to the transformer.

    A friend of mine owns a company that hauls away old furniture and appliances but has also been paid many times to take away brand new tv sets, microwaves and even a refrigerator still in their boxes. He also gets pretty expensive lawn tractors with just a dead battery or clogged fuel filter or some other minor problem. Like they say one mans trash.

    I am not familiar with current generic universal remotes for Audio Video Receivers, but i have a Logitech 650 (us$40) that ahndles all the oddball accessorties I throw at it including my Yamaha RX-V2600 (their first HDMI model). Good Luck!@ That room would keep me from ever leaving. Happy Holidays to you and family.

    I've seen the solid wire soldered on as a cable retainer in various devices previously, so I guess it's just a choice some manufacturers make.

    3:53 This must be the ugliest pair of loudspeakers/monitors I've ever seen. Found in the Dumpster of a Borg Hive!!!
    Funny about this Yamaha Receiver: You can't really tell how recent it is because seemingly Yamaha's designer Team is pretty old school! I have Guitar Amp THR10 from Yamaha. Now I know why it looks as it looks! Cheers, nice find!

    • @InTheSh8
      @InTheSh8 5 років тому +1

      @Andrew BallardYes, it's a nice concept, portable, recording with Zero-latency due to the direct monitoring feature. And you can record only your DI signal if you wanna use VST-Amps and Cabs later. But unfortunately it's horribly outdated. Yamaha never bothered to put an effect pedal section in front of the chain. So, you can't boost with an OD/TS to get more metal-like sounds. Compared to what is possible with impulse responses the sounds of the THR10 are also a bit behind. Nowadays I'd choose Boss or Vox over the THR in this segment.

    I pulled a similar system out of the Goodwill Outlet bins not long ago. I'll never understand what people toss. (For the non-USAians. Goodwill is a thrift store chain and their Outlet stores are basically the crap they couldn't sell at regular stores but they take donations there as well)
