Of course, a lot of this the noise adding to the drama but if you drove it I believe you would also notice.
@@larssonk22 Ah, great point! I will ask though I suspect they have no benchmarkj for this as no Lotus before this has had that setup and they might not offer exhausts for an AMG car. I will ask anyway. Ade
That might have well been a typo of sorts. With the standard exhaust, it starts with the valve open - as in Sports/Track mode - so it might have been that and I switched to Sports/Track immediately, which is what I ALWAYS do every single trip. No Tour for me unless on a motorway when I might use Cruise.
If you hold down the start button for ten seconds without touching clutch or brake pedals, you will then be able to switch to sport mode and then press start again to start her up in sports mode and its sports exhaust sound!!! Worth the ten sec wait sometimes when you just have to hear it!
@@pec6118 I tried this with a car that I test drove and it didn’t work. It would only let me get to the drive mode screen, but it wouldn’t let me select anything. was bummed lol
It fits both cars and will definitely improve the i4 too. I have no idea in what way it will improve apart from loudness but if you check out the best sounding exhaust to buy for an AMG 45 S then that would be a good guess. Let me know what you find!
Labor cost will be similar. Will amplify the sound if that is all you are after. No idea on the payment plan. Best to contact them. One of their retailers likely offers one.
You either replace the system temporarily (I have the original) down your local exhaust fitter or use an emmission 'friendly' MOT station. This is something I will need to worry about in 2 years time as I have had the car for 15 months now.
Sports. There is not too much in it but, being a sports car, it seemed madness not to go for Sports! It is a little bit more crunchy over potholes and speed bumps but the pay-off on track, around fast bends and general fast street driving it is better.
@@RevMonkey thanks! I remember Misha saying that touring was a bit soft for the track , I just wasn’t sure how that translated to the road. If you’re buying a sports car, it makes sense to go all out I suppose.

Well, technically, yes but there is counter arguments IF the warranty work is reasonably NOT a factor of the exhaust work. You could say the same for any slight modification really but an exhaust is quite a change. Only an engine remap is worse in terms of warranty breaking. Ironically, one could argue the exhaust change is better for the engine as hot gasses pass out quicker.
Yes you do. Lotus will delight in telling you how you invalidated the warranty. The dear old Rev' here is behaving like a teenager - I guess its his age.
Sounds nice but I find the constant all be it softer sound pops still get annoying. I think the snap crackle and pop gangs have overdone it so much over the years it's become kinda annoying now.
I agree on the really loud, sharp cracks. These softer ones just add another dimension. They are not loud. Revving the car through 5k and above is the loud antisocial bit! 😜
Illegal, no. Will it pass it's MOT in 2026 if rules change. No idea. The improvement is definitely a combo of them both as Larini tried everything separately. The race pipe adds volume but the backbox adds more character and the V12 scream. ADE
@@RevMonkey Extract from gov website below. I might be tempted with a catback system though. The law Under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42) it is an offence to use on a road a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. The potential penalties are £1,000 for a car and £2,500 for a van, lorry or bus. Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 75) it is an offence to alter a vehicle in such a way that the use of the vehicle on a road would be unlawful. A person altering the vehicle (if they knew or believed that the vehicle would be used on the road) could be found guilty of an offence under the Act. Potential penalties are unlimited fines.
Yes it’s illegal to remove a Cat in the UK and an automatic MOT failure. The only exemption is if your car had a cat fitted originally but was built before 1994 (eg F40s, NSXs) when they became compulsory.
@@neilturner6749I didn;t actually know this. Wouldn;t stop me or others but interesting. I think illegal seems a strong word. Then your are into the realm of fines, prison sentences and invalid insurance. I think 'not passing the MOT' is the worst it can be and thousands must get through as it is very common. If a CAT is removed BUT the emissions pass, is that not okay?
You are a bit slow Rev' if you did not know cars need to pass emmisions tests and thats near enough zero CO to pass - hence the fitment of a cat. Durrr, all a bit 'council' removing it imho. Put it back the noise will be almost the same with the new back box.@@RevMonkey
@@RevMonkey revving it cold could screw up the engine, you wait when its warm and then you rev it for the true sound. (it sounds better revving warm then revving cold)
It will never be as amazing as a V12 'can' be but is better than some stockers IMHO. Generally speaking, for me, the older the V8/V10/V12 the better it sounds. Things probably peaked with the Enzo.
@@RevMonkey Im very much inclined to agree! Engines only sound as good as their intakes and exhausts allow them to be. The more modern the car, the more potentially sanitised the intake and exhaust due to noise and pollution requirements. I remember many yrs ago two of my old cars an Alfa 3.0 GTV V6 and my Fiat Bravo HGT.... i had two Alfas and the 2nd one was a later model with revised fuel inj and manifolds with cats to meet regs and it just didnt sound as sweet. The Bravo was an NA 5cyl and again the 1st run of models sounded more rorty than the 2nd which had VVT and more stringent exhaust/injection. Ive just remembered too that even the Nissan 350Z i had after the Alfas had the similar issue the cars were developed and made better/more powerful over 3x life cycles, but that the first one still sounded the sweetest!
Do you still hear the same amount of supercharger whine inside the car, or has this new exhaust setup increased the exhaust sound and less whine inside the car? Great video too!
You hear about 20% more of everything and a loit more than that at full chat, especially with the windows down. None of the original character is lost, just improved! In the standard car, I always thought the car sounded best with the windows UP, as you hear those 3 nuances that I talk about (ruined by wind noise with the windows open) but with the Larini exhaust it is such a big difference I can leave the windows open and absolutely love it.

It feels noticeably faster, not substantially, but you can notice a difference. Seems more responsive too. No idea of the power increase. I might get a dyno at some point. I reckon 15HP and lighter of course. It is the easier breathing which seems to make the pick up better.
Of course, a lot of this the noise adding to the drama but if you drove it I believe you would also notice.
8:31 thanks mate.. flipping me off for no reason
Ha, great spot! 😂
That sounds bloody amazing!!
Agreed! I went out in it today - windows down. It actually seems to be getting better and better with use, as the exhaust beds in. Love it.
@@RevMonkey Do larini have an idea how the I4 will sound with their system?
@@larssonk22 Ah, great point! I will ask though I suspect they have no benchmarkj for this as no Lotus before this has had that setup and they might not offer exhausts for an AMG car. I will ask anyway.
Ade
Where can you order? I can’t see for sale on Larini website?
Link is in the description. Send in an enquiry. They are shipping both the race pipe and backboxes out soon.
Thanks!
Wow, never had one of those before!
Are you getting/have got an Emira?
Ade
Jolly farmer, does a great roast!
Ha. Indeed.
How did you start the car in sport mode? Thought it always starts in tour.
Can this exhaust still sound great the 2 litre i4 model? Or only the V6 model?
It fits both cars and will definitely improve the i4 too. I have no idea in what way it will improve apart from loudness but if you check out the best sounding exhaust to buy for an AMG 45 S then that would be a good guess.
Let me know what you find!
Nice Reg Plate.
Yeah, works well on the car - if only to help people know what he car is! 😄
Video starts at 4:08
Cheers.
Looks to me that the race pipe is a no brainer at that price though I guess the labor cost is the same either way. Do they offer a payment plan?
Labor cost will be similar. Will amplify the sound if that is all you are after.
No idea on the payment plan. Best to contact them. One of their retailers likely offers one.
How do you get it through an MOT without the Cats?
You either replace the system temporarily (I have the original) down your local exhaust fitter or use an emmission 'friendly' MOT station. This is something I will need to worry about in 2 years time as I have had the car for 15 months now.
Amazing. Money well spent. 👍
I think so!!
Considering this car. Did you go for the touring or sport? also what would you recommend?
@@txl420 I think one would more likely regret getting Touring than the other way round.
.
If the car is never for the track and just a daily and for long tours then Touring perhaps takes back the lead.
@@RevMonkey Thanks I appreciate the insight, think I'll be going for the sport setup. The car sounds incredible with that system by the way, I'm sure it's even better in person.
@@txl420 Great.
Yeah, car sounds awesome and has gotten better over time even.
Amazing sound. Only if the emira revved a little bit higher to atleast 7500rpm
Sure, it would be amazing. However, this does make it 'seem' like it revs to about that due the noise level. Interesting phenomenon.
Congrats ...
Awsome.
Thank you! Cheers!
How is this compared to the Miltek System?
Well, not heard it but their approach is somewhat different so I doubt the sound gets close to the specialness of Larini.
The Larini backbox is magic.
Boom. What a noise! 😁
Yep. It is so addictive.
I want one of them chargers can’t lie 😂

Lovely pipes! Still got the Fezza or is it gathering dust?
Both! In a storage unit for the winter.
I love my high rev bike!
I am a bike but too. I miss my MV and my Fireblade!
This lotus has a V12 OMG! Wow! Bet 0-60 in like 2 seconds
Ha. Nope, still slow... relatively speaking.
Sounds epic and goes round corners as good any anything else. Still a bargain imo.
Action happens at 9:33. Best sounds start at 14:07

how about the smeel without cat?
Smell?
FIne. no hint of any fumes as it is all behind you!
EV vs ICE is like grilling a steak vs microwaving it.
Both get the job done.
But I know what I'd order off the menu.
Ha, yeah, love that.😍
Do you lose warranty when swapping the exhaust?
Well, technically, yes but there is counter arguments IF the warranty work is reasonably NOT a factor of the exhaust work.
You could say the same for any slight modification really but an exhaust is quite a change. Only an engine remap is worse in terms of warranty breaking.
Ironically, one could argue the exhaust change is better for the engine as hot gasses pass out quicker.
Yes you do. Lotus will delight in telling you how you invalidated the warranty.
The dear old Rev' here is behaving like a teenager - I guess its his age.
Bella 😍 🥰 😘
Grazie.
Great exhaust. But what about your warranty? Was that Ferrari St Albans? I’d take it easy in the 30mph areas! Drive safe 👍💯
Nah, Maranellos in Egham.
No speed limits were harmed in the making of this video. 😎
Car does sound epic. Has doubled the people looking around.
@waltersobchak1719Probably my most favourite place in the world, well, equal with the Maldives 🌤
I had to check nuances in the dictionary. 🤓
Ha. Fair enough. I do mention them enough. I hope it made sense in the context of the video! 😁
Have you dyno'd with this exhaust?
No, I really should as the car definitely feels faster.
Isn’t removing the catalytic converter illegal in the UK? and is the main noise improvement coming from the removal of this?
Illegal, no. Will it pass it's MOT in 2026 if rules change. No idea.
The improvement is definitely a combo of them both as Larini tried everything separately.
The race pipe adds volume but the backbox adds more character and the V12 scream.

Extract from gov website below. I might be tempted with a catback system though.
The law
Under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42) it is an offence to use on a road a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.
How come it is being sold?
Part of my long term plan but seriously thinking i cannot sell this..
ua-cam.com/video/aDzAiNYeeKs/v-deo.html
put a BMW V10 in it like the other lotus owners 😩
Ha. probably too heavy then and affect the handling and balance but would be a laugh.
my dad owns one of these beasts, he removed 2 of the cats and it just sounds beastly, also i suggest you dont rev it while its cold
Ha, it sounds best when cold! :)
The sound these cars make is incredible once they are allowed to breathe properly.
@@RevMonkey revving it cold could screw up the engine, you wait when its warm and then you rev it for the true sound.
(it sounds better revving warm then revving cold)
A V6 can obviously have a similar tonality to a V12 and while this does, its still not as amazing as a V12 can be!
When you modify your car like this, what does it do to the insurance premium?
I will find out tomorrow, IF I remember to call them!
It might not affect it actually. They do treat exhausts nicely on the whole.
Sounds just like my Evora 410...
Cool cars. I wish the Emira had the 410 or even 430 engine in it
wow - is this street legal in Switzerland? how many dB do you measure?
I have not done a Db measurement. I will try and get one, for comparison. No idea on legality for any given country.
@@RevMonkey cheers mate - it is all about the db... in Switzerland, it has to be below 100 :-)
@@murat2209 Ah, 100% below that in Tour. In Sport/Track it might be close. Are you talking about a static test, and from how far away and how many revs, or is it a fly-by?

Are Larini claiming a power increase as well? I had a dealer in the US tell me that a third cat delete would add 30hp….
Not claiming anything but the car feels faster for sure and delivers more agressively.

any check engine light? is this just the GPF?
Never seen a check engine light. It uses the original sensors and valves and causes no issues whatsoever.
Great video Ade! After hearing this, I fully plan to do this backbox on my FE V6 (if the car ever arrives in the US). Any word from Larini on how well this fits without the race pipe? I want the sound but not necessarily the full volume.
You can fit either independently. Makes sense to do both IF you like full beans sounds.
You still not got cars in the US?
I'm selling mine. 😁
Wow.
@@RevMonkey Not a single car delivered in North America yet! Apparently still waiting on some kind of paperwork. It's incredibly embarrassing for Lotus. @@neilturner6749 Well, illegal might be a stretch, in that there are hundreds of thousands of cars with exhausts modified from original. Come MOT time it will be interesting to see what happens based on emissions.

@@RevMonkeyIt’s a fantastic looking car but Lotus are now offering interest free credit (which Lotus must be subsidising so it’s effectively a discount) on a new car and there’s loads of low mileage cars available at £65,000 or less. Very strange for a car where demand supposedly outstrips supply.
@@adrianbennett3761 Yeah, Lotus oversupplied due to a massive issue with the USA and delays meaning attention shifted to UK/Euro cars.
Such a fantastic car and an absolute bargain at the discounted prices. No great shock that Lotus have somehow buggered the market up for themselves.
