Wow she was way ahead of her time. This was only 2000 and she's talking about gay marriage and adoption as if it were today. What a wonderful woman she was.
2000? Sis she was out there fighting for gays since the 60s.
Her and Jane Fonda were out there in the 60s and 70s talking to the media about gay rights. Look up some of their interviews. They were WAY ahead of their time. Queens.
She co-created amFar in 1985. Her activism helped saved millions of lives . Obviously not alone, but it was her star status that got Ronald Reagan to officially talk about aids when no one else could. Of course it was only one time in his whole presidency and what he said was horrible but at least it passed his lips once in a public speech. This woman was/is a Saint in my opinion.
I cry everytime I think about what she did for our Community. She should be honoured and preserved in gay culture at all costs.
She was way ahead of her time.
It is 2021, and her words are as bold and forceful as they were in 2000. A great woman.
Elizabeth was an amazing person. She did not care what people thought of her and she stood up for what she believed in.
yes!!!
Women like her and Joan Crawford selflessly helped so many closeted gay actors-decades before Stonewall. They’re icons for a reason.
Joan Crawford hated gays you idiot
Matthew Dalton You can’t be serious. She maintained a lifelong friendship with William Haines who sacrificed his acting career by refusing to deny his homosexuality. Joan adored Haines and his partner, and helped support him financially in his later years.
@@matthewdalton5344 Where tf did you hear that?😂
Absolutely true about Joan and Haines. She's the primary reason his career as an interior designer was so successful, as she promoted his work within her well-to-do circles.
Crawford also paid for a hospital room (and later on, two), for members of the film community (grips, cameramen, wardrobe) who couldn't afford to pay for health care, and she did it anonymously. It wasn't till after her death that George Cukor revealed this little-known fact.
It is amazing how her intellect and passion kicks in as soon as she starts speaking of her activism and what motivated it..... amazingly beautiful human being .... and love that she slams Ronald Reagan even if not by name, and casually confirms that James Dean was gay.
And Montgomery Clift
I love this woman!! She'd met actors in her lifetime who were struggling with their sexuality and the taboo that came with disclosing it in public, and she wanted to help. she knew what she was talking about and she deserved this award. R.I.P beautiful lady
I concur with your comment, if anyone had an insight she did.
@@mikehudson8884 especially in regards to James Deen. Many can or will speculate but Liz was a credible source.
Incredible person. Class, grace, beauty, humility, compassion, empathy. Elizabeth Taylor had it all, there can never be another like her.
Looking at the comments, I love how people on here keep saying James Dean is not gay etc etc etc. Elizabeth Taylor knows more about James Dean personally than EVERYONE here who comments on this clip. Her name dropping him was not a mistake. Stop trying to defend his sexuality as if he asked you to. Anyway Love you Elizabeth Taylor! I totally wish I got to see you while on your frequent trips to the Abbey 😆
Exactly right! She knew James Dean better than pretty much anyone in Hollywood, even though their time together before he died was brief. They were inseparable. If she says he was gay, then I believe her. ❤️
Her line about marriage should be an example to all!!!
Elizabeth Taylor so wise and she used her celebrity to do good for the world. That was her best contribution and her proudest accomplishment even though she was talented, beautiful, great actress. There was only one like her, never again.
This has literally brought tears to my eyes. She puts a whopping big smile on my face. She was an extraordinary woman.
she was the most beautiful woman in the world, physically and in her heart.
Elizabeth Taylor was simply the best! She gave of herself and risked her stardom at a time when people were running for cover. She was loving, kind, outspoken and very caring and generous. What a wonderful human being! I miss you terribly, Elizabeth. You will always being an inspiration to me on so many levels. God bless you, Elizabeth.
RIP.
She was a hell of a woman, that's for sure. I wish more people could live their lives full speed ahead like she did.
Taylor has to be one of the most gutsy people of her time , bless her !
Yes Miss Taylor you said it! what a wonderful and sweet speech! bless you! RIP
3:15 "I've spent a lot of time with gay men, Montgomery Clift, Jimmy (James) Dean, Rock Hudson..."
His father was gay
She is so straight forward and captivating. She will be missed.
That was one of the best speeches I have ever heard in my life from anybody. Honest, logic, strong. And most of the time she spoke about others, like if the award was for them and that is how she really meant it. She was beautiful, intelligent and with heart on the right place. A unique combination. People like her do not have easy lives. But maybe that is thing that polishes people´s character. The real Dame.
SHE IS SO SELFLESS!!!
Note to self: whenever the world gets sad look up Liz, she will cheer me up and on
It's sad that she is no longer alive I loved her so much She Was so genuine
Thank you Miss Taylor for all your years of work to help our community. You will never be forgotten. Give Jimmy a hug and a kiss. RIP ❤️
I think Elizabeth would be proud of the progress in the 3 years since her passing.
Mike Pence is now the vice president. She is rolling in her grave.
+Reagan Killed the Middle Class right
Look what happened in June 2015. She'd be over the moon. :)
A rare combination of outer and inner beauty 👑💯❤️
She was truly ahead of her time 💯
RIP Elizabeth Taylor ❤️❤️❤️
Dame Elizabeth was a fantastic woman. She will never be forgotten! Rest in Peace.
Don't you just miss Legends like Ms. Taylor, wonderful woman
There will be no replica of this magnificent woman in our lifetime. She was an angel sent from heaven to save lives.
People may have been captivated with Elizabeth Taylor's beauty, but her legacy is the beautiful heart!
Many years ago I was Edith Head main cook. Liz came by and ate all the food. Those were some good days.
Can you imagine Liz and Carrie carrying on a conversation? Liz was always so poised. She wasn't stuck up or anything. Just very classy. Carrie on the other hand, a cut up. She had no filter and that's what made her awesome. It'd be funny to be in a room with those two!
I absolutely adored Elizabeth Taylor❣️❣️ I truly believe that I am so dramatic at times is because I grew up watching all her movies❣️ My Mother and all my aunts loved her as well!!!
“Rest Now--- Beautiful Elizabeth Taylor”
Our beloved Dame Elizabeth Taylor, thank you for all your support 💘
Whenever I think I can't love her even more ... I find a clip like this.
❤️
Liz knew alot of gays in Hollywood back in the 40's but she loved them and Dolly Parton knew alot of gays in country and love them too and Liz and Dolly was the first to be there for gays and aids and so was Lady Diana and the Queen told Diana to wear gloves when with the sick and Diana said no and Diana kissed gays with aids and Dolly Parton she hired a gay guy in the 70's to be her manager and now hes a manager to the top singers like Michael Jackson and Dolly and him still best buddies She also has been very vocal on AIDS issues., Dolly’s production company’s first project was an Academy Award-winning documentary on the AIDS quilt !!..Liz.Dolly and Lady Diana your angels and THANK YOU for caring for us and believing in us when others didnt!!!!
Dolly is gay herself.
She slept with a few too!

One AMAZING lady. It can never be forgotten the part this wonderful lady has played in the fight against AIDS/HIV and the journey of awareness and acceptance and survival.
My god I cry seeing this. I miss you Elizabeth taylor
LONG LIVE LOVE......Thank you Liz Taylor.
I love that Carrie presented.
Love when she says “my stepmom” ❤️
Oh Lizzie, we miss you dearly, you made a difference in your lifetime.
I'm weeping..so much love..
A true legend . She loved so many and men loved her. She was the life of every party and her wealth came and went to a great cause. Saving lives.
Elizabeth Taylor was not just an accomplished actor, stunningly beautiful and an amazing activist but she was also a brilliant businesswoman. Her perfume company broke all records and she delivered the product on every level. The lady had it going on.
I love what Carrie Fisher says in the beginning: "For her bold support of Gay rights before there was a Gay & Lesbian movement" when introducing "My stepmother, Elizabeth Taylor..."
ME, too!
Wow, wonderful lady, decades ahead of her time!
What a beautiful creature inside and out. Such a compassionate soul. We miss you Elizabeth Taylor. 🙏
Truly one of a kind. The likes of which we will never see again. RIP Elizabeth.
There can NEVER be another like her
The most beautiful Queen in Hollywood...Our Friend. We will always remember you and have you dearly in our hearts! Elizabeth Taylor just smashed all the haters and ignorant people brought down by her message of love and acceptance :)
❤Year 2024 i am watching this. This fantastic, Intelligent, smart iconic moviestar beauty was league of her own. The one and only! ❤Fantastic speech! ❤love from Finland
Love & respect to Elizabeth Taylor. She is such an icon & angel. RIP for ever.
Love constitutes a family.
3:20 jimmy dean wow .... crazy
He wasmt gay
He was bisexual and apparently Brando was too
Courtney Williams Brando admitted to his bisexuality unashamedly. I read something where he was quoted as saying “like a large number of men I too have had homosexual experiences’ and I am not ashamed.” RIP Marlon Brando.
Geoff Coates Quincy Jones outed him a couple of years ago but most people dismissed it
James Dean l agree is not gay l think she is just made a mistake she’s just named the people she acts with at that time she never said this about James on anything else she has just had a brain tumor and is confused
She is actually my hero.
One of the best of all times!!!!
Liz Taylor was one of the most beautiful people to ever exist, she was a loyal friend and confidant to so many people including closeted leading men like Montgomery Clift and Rock Hudson, providing them the solace and intimate friendship they deeply needed in the homophobic world of the golden age of Hollywood
RIP Elizabeth. I will always love you and admire you. Thank you for all you gave us.
Everyone once in a while, when I need a pep talk I come here and listen to this.
This is amazing, thank you Elizabeth for this speech we need more people like her. Blessings to her family.
Shes the most beautiful woman in te world.
Inside and out
What an amazing speech from an amazing women. Awesome glaad
The don’t make them like this anymore! Dame Elizabeth was a broad in every sense of the word. Her incredible acting ability is only overshadowed by her activism for the LGBTQ community! She is missed! God bless you Elizabeth!!
What a beautiful person, what an amazing speech from her heart! R.I.P Elizabeth Taylor!
I miss her very much. Thank you, Ms. Taylsor, for all you have done for the world. Thanks for this post.
A name to be always remembered ❤️
She would be so proud toady!
If she were still alive, November the 8th, 2016, would've killed her.
Blessed from God with extreme beauty, her heart was the same. She was so Radiant all her life, even her friendships and Love for those close friends...who had to hide their personal lives. she helped then, without prejudice and loved them as any human should...Her history and her devotion to the Gay Community will always be monumental..She made the world recognize this illness and respect those who were dying and infected, educated our communities, and donated so much of herself.
So y’all are able to believe Rock Hudson and Monty Clift, two supremely masculine leading men, were gay, but can’t wrap your heads around James dean being gay? The denial in these comments is absurd
Elizabeth Taylor was also questioned about Dean’s sexuality in a 1997 interview with POZ Magazine. This is what she said:
KEVIN SESSUMS: James Dean?
ELIZABETH TAYLOR: I loved Jimmy, too. We used to sit up and talk and talk.
KEVIN SESSUMS: There's been this postmortem debate about whether he was gay or not. What do you think?
ELIZABETH TAYLOR: He hadn't made up his mind. He was only 24 when he died. But he was certainly fascinated by women. He flirted around. He and I … twinkled.
KEVIN SESSUMS: Better be careful-sounds like water sports.
ELIZABETH TAYLOR: Oh God! We had a … well … a … little twinkle for each other.
I honestly think Monty and James were both bisexual, but they were both definitely not straight. Sad people can’t accept that and move on!
@@sparklingwaterfalls If we want to be completely honest, Elizabeth did, in fact, give the impression she and James Dean were "dating," and we know what that means. She knew it would be good for his career and help tamp down rumors that had begun already about his homosexuality. On one side, that's a good friend. On the other hand, historically, she was on the wrong side of the issue doing that. Saying full-out that he was gay, decades after his death, is not exactly courageous.
Thank You Dame Elizabeth Taylor.
SOBBING, I LOVE THESE BOTH OF THESE QUEENS SO MUUUUUUUUUCH 👑
And if you know any of the complicated family history between Elizabeth Taylor and Carrie Fisher, then you also understand how *_especially_* touching Carrie's introductory speech for Elizabeth was - that alone had me crying only a few seconds into the video, and then Elizabeth's speech??? I would have fallen to my knees and bowed like Wayne and Garth meeting Alice Cooper if I had been in that audience, how absolutely POWERFUL would it have been to hear a reowned ICON like ELIZABETH TAYLOR saying _THAT_ back then??? God, I love her.
She's the definition of a true ally ❤❤❤
R.I.P. Elizabeth! love ya! U will be missed!
This made me cry. Thank you, Elizabeth. Rest in peace.
R.I.P We will all miss her! She was a wonderful actress and such a great supporter to our community! I applaud :) Rock on Liz Rock on hon! :)
Elizabeth was simply the best. She loved , laughed and cried with her friend's and believed in LOYALTY & equal rights for all. When Elizabeth was your friend you could count on her forever. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE U ELIZABETH.
What an amazing woman Elizabeth Taylor was. She was, and is the most loving, giving and beautiful human being in the world. Oh, how we missed her. That's not a single soul here who has anything bad to say about her, whether gay or otherwise. RIP Queen.

I will always love you my dearest & darling Dame Elizabeth Taylor
Shes so awsome!
Btw…if anyone doubts that James Dean was either gay or bisexual, just watch the screen test he did with Paul Newman. Pretty much clears things up. 😘
Dame Elizabeth, was an amzing human being!
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dame Elizabeth Taylor, will never be dead, she will live forever in the imaginations of succeeding generations, in peoples hearts and in all the good she did.
Our Champion! 💖Ahead of her time.
God - I love her!
A true lady!
Amazing. R.I.P darling.
Elizabeth Taylor was a national treasure and rightfully earned her status as an icon of the Gay community. Speaking as a bisexual man, I ought to know. God bless you, Liz.
Magnificent woman, what a speech. You can see her determination and passion in refuting this prejudice !! Respect Liz......
RIP to the beautiful, gutsy and generous Miss Elizabeth Taylor. You were way more than a movie star - you were (and ARE) a heroine. We all miss you.
Love this woman
She was extraordinary.
This speech by Elizabeth Taylor should be played in schools its the next best thing to teaching about gay life styles. She sums it all up in this speech things that gay people have been trying to get a cross to others for decades. And the biggest and most important message she gives in this speech is that to be gay is not a bad thing and should equal to a straight lifestyle.
She is classiness at its maximum.
This is so amazing yes she may come every night. I really love her support she is not only an activist but a wonderful person who came into this life to make a change and to keep that living. She is a darling and such a wonderful thing that had happened to us Yaye!!!!!!
Just the best God Bless Dame Elizabeth ❤❤❤
