Thankyou. However I’m in the UK and after a lot of fiddling about we realised it opens differently for the UK A3 model 2021. Exact same key fob as in the video but no screwdriver needed. Just very carefully prise from the side of the panel that pops up with fingernail. The clips that hold it are in the corners and not at the end.
Thanks Andrew, MY UK A£ 2021 key fob isn't like the video either, my thumb nail wasnt quite strong enough to unclip it, but a piece of 0.3mm shim stock was just right
Just followed your advice, thank you. Etron 2020 UK model. Whilst your advice got me into the battery compartment, I noticed that the tab which is in the corner right in the video is actually dead centre on my fob. So the video method works if you aim your screwdriver to the centre, under the silver button. Just spent 10 mins faffing and searching for clues, so sharing this in case anyone finds it useful. I'm reluctant to prise open the top compartment using finger nails or screwdrivers again because it impacts the plastic and makes it look tatty. The screwdriver method is better.
Sweden A3 2021. Owners manual instructions are as in video, but as you informs; the clips are in the corners. One of them can be reached from inside and creates a gap for further prying from outside. Scary though…Your information saved my day. Kept working diagonally for hours until I read your comment. 🙏
my hero! Was going insane watching the vids and ready the "so easy & clear"-comments only to almost destroy my remote trying to find something to pry open. Turns out Audi also likes to prank. Opened it fairly easy from the side with a screwdriver and some umph
The fact that we need a UA-cam video and a screwdriver to open a car key to replace a battery shows what a ridiculous design this is. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for making this! I wouldn't have been able to figure it out on my own, especially if I used a shorter screwdriver, saved me tons of frustration. Keep up the high quality content, both video / audio were excellent!
I wish I’d watched this earlier after being charged £18 for it to be done in a key cutting shop, and I have a stash of the CR32 batteries. This will save me money, very good tip, thank you.
Google brought me here while replacing my 2022 Q4 Etron battery. While the fob’s exterior is is absolutely identical to this, unfortunately this is not how to get the cover off of mine as they must have changed that design (it’s even more difficult now lol). Thanks for the video anyways Rob, just wanted to give other Q4 owners a heads up!
I agree with UK comments. The US key is different to our UK ones. You need to remove the back by using plastic edge tool - eg phone tool or similar & sliding gently around the edge & the back will pop out. I took the key out first as easier to handle.
Your video looks so simple but it didn't work for my Australian delivered 2021 S3. I looked through the other comments and found that Andrew Bass from the UK described how to open my identical looking but quite different key fob battery cover. Thanks Andrew. However, my problem doesn't end there. The battery is locked down by two fixed plastic tabs and I have given up on removing it without breaking the tabs. Unfortunately this means a visit to my nearest Audi dealership and probably a long wait. It beats me why I have easily changed button batteries in multiple devices over the years but Audi have "designed" something reminiscent of Alexander the Great's Gordian Knot.
You can push the battery down a bit. After that you push it to the side with the two fixed plastic tabs. This will create some space on the side without the plastic tabs where you then can put a screwdriver in between and lift it up, it will pop out easily. Hope this helps
@@nirvana00222 Thanks Matthias, that is what the Audi service people eventually did, but not before about ten minutes of head scratching and fiddling. 👍
@@peterb5644 Ah that atleast makes me feel better about my struggles to get it done if it took them 10 minutes! Well next time it will go easier for the both of us.
Thanks to those who mentioned the UK key is different (nice one Audi) - I recorded a quick video to try to show how it differs. Hope you don’t mind me posting a link ua-cam.com/video/Il_AE7TdiiU/v-deo.html
My 21 plate A3 has been telling me to change the battery in both fobs for a while so today i did and it's still coming up on the dashboard telling me to replace them!!
I think you'll need to update it in the car settings on the home screen - same way you do tire pressure. Not sure but about to embark on the same journey now that I've watched this.
@@flamencojane I completely understand. It is very difficult. Just try and mimic the depth and motion I made on the video. This video has a little bit different view - ua-cam.com/video/CurWSFtxRl4/v-deo.html

1:19 video, no waffle, No BS, Just a well excuted video containing exactly the information needed for the task - Brilliant!
glad I could help! Take care
UA-cam should use this as an example of a perfect how-to video: concise and helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Finally someone who can teach! Best instruction by showing us the little clip after the back is off. Excellent! THANKS!
Glad it helped! Take care

Super helpful!! Thank you so much for being concise and clear, as well as linking the battery in the description
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for showing the release tab's location. A screwdriver isn't needed though. You can pop it open with the same key you remove for access.
Man, how did we ever get by without UA-cam? I dealerships hate it 😂

Amazing help after trying for hours to change my battery. Watched this and did it easily

Great video I was messing around with it for an hour couldnt figure it out
No problem 👍
This video helped but Its super hard to remove the cover, why can’t Audi add a plain screw.
Almost like Audi would prefer if you brought it into the dealership and paid to have the service completed ;)
Just changed my battery and yes the UK key is totally different.

Any idea how to then take out the motherboard?
Whoever designed this key fob should be fired!!! Terrible design.

Ha! Thanks bud
Who's RandomRed 🤷♂️🤷♂️😜😜😜
Technically, you don’t need a flathead screwdriver. You’re supposed to just be able to use your key that you pulled out
Thank you. I would’ve never figured it out
