They're worried because of channels like yours. You literally said posted a video a few months back titled "Is THIS The Best Total War Killer?" - YOU are part of the problem.
you could go a step deeper and say its the algorithm of youtube that is part of the problem. Since it rewards video titles like that.
True !
@@Rex1987you don’t have to be a dirty little sl*t for the algorithm, it’s a choice
@@Rex1987 It's not that it rewards titles like that it's that that's what gets people's attention because people are naturally curious. You could say it's exploitative behavior, sure, luring people with titles like that, but I can't blame them. Do you know how competitive UA-cam actually is? Make a video right now, any video. Then do that four hundred more times, sometimes more. Some people start from scratch, others have a well-thought-out plan. It's a slow and exhausting process with no guarantees. There's literally no reason for anyone to watch anything you upload at first, and you have to slowly prove yourself, all while competing with creators who have millions of subscribers who may or may not be doing similar videos to what you're doing. On top of that, you're not really getting paid for any of this until like a million views, so that's fun. You're almost at impossible odds, yet some people come out of it on top. And I bet they used titles at one point and figured out it worked for them. Maybe it got them out of a hole when they had months go by with no success, no viewers watching any of their content. Sometimes it's necessary, maybe even just to keep their sanity. Fun fact, did you know only about 1% of people are creators? It takes a very specific type of person to do this kind of thing. Most people won't. Most people are followers.
There's no problem; it looks like a good game.
we do not need bigger battles, we want bigger cities, castles and walls thats all...
Bigger castles are useless without bigger battles
@@revolutionary-brothernah I mean look at kingdom come deliverance, they made a pretty cool siege with only like 30 guys attacking and 30 defending despite it taking place in a big castle
Im sure thats the plan
Speak for yourself, I want to be able to build and upgrade my manor into and through to the year 3248 and fuck alien invaders, we are not the same.
@@Short_Shots Thats what I want to see. But city builder fan bois think total war is "bigger battles". Its more than that, and Manor Lords fits the other aspects of Total War quite well
I wish people would stop saying this is going to be the new total war
Its not, but the foundation is there. I pray for the future of this game that it will be bright.
For me it's going to be a total war replacement. If people want bigger battles and more of them they can probably mod them in to make it more like total war.
@@braincell4536 Mate. Stop it. The foundation is NOT there. My god.
@@braincell4536 you clearly havent played the game if you say stuff like that.
Guys can we not just have a 50/50 split?
The game has great potential. You can have your city builder while others can enjoy better battles in the future.
Thats why the foundation is there. Stop hating the idea. Slavic Magic doesnt even have to do it himself once the game fully releases. As long as the game is easily modable.
I didnt even say one bit its a total war competitor and all you city-builder fanbois are all up and arms already. Both communities are toxic, and toxicity and hostility will kill this gem of a game.
Let both sides have their fun ey?
Definitely not a new total war (nor should it be), but I do hope whatever ends up being the new total war takes some inspiration from Manor Lords
Me too
People compare this game to Total War or AOE but no one compares it to only one game with which it can be compared and that's Stronghold. This is successor to it, it has most of the mechanics same or very similar, its just a newer and more advanced.
I love Stronghold, too.
or Lords of the realm 2 - the whole diplomacy system of sending letters to other lords, is very much like that.
It's definitely closer to age of empire than to total war, tbh. It's only that the mechanics for city building and army control are way more advanced.
People have been comparing it to Stronghold/Settler 3
Songs of Syx
To me this is the natural successor to the game Banished.
It was a flawed masterpiece that crashed your attention to detail, furthermore the player must show restraint on resource usage.
I think this game is for the player who builds small villages that they manage every day with a cup of tea, being pushed into step conflicts.
Combat is a necessary step to protect and expand.
That said the fighting is A++ if you understand that the perspective is "I just wanted to give my people better lives"
This is the kind of game like "Knights and Merchants" or "Dawn of Man" or "Stronghold"...
I think it's insane how much obvious desire there is for in-depth medieval games and the best we are getting is total war, ck, and bannerlord. Meanwhile a new highly funded FPS comes out seemingly every 2 months. Like what is going on?
For FPSs it's because they're an establish genre that makes it relatively easy to make them, and they're great vehicles for monetization; but that the issue, most FPS are made as vehicles for monetization, they're hardly new games. The only big shooter to come out recently and develop on the concept is Helldivers, and it's third person.
But I think we're in a great era for medieval games. We spent like 10 years with every medival setting having fanasy elements shoved in, but now we got CK3 last year, and Manor Lords, Kingdom Come Deliverence II, Bellwright and Norland this year. That's a grand strategy, city builder, and RPG, survival builder, and rustlike all in the span of a year. It's a great time to be a medieval gamer.
shooters are way easier to make than medieval games, lots more to animate in a medieval game
You guys make some good points and inspire hope in my heart.
I’m sure how easy it is to monetize something with predatory MTX has an effect. Sad reality we’re living in when it comes to shooters tbh.
That’s one reason why Helldivers 2 has been so highly-praised. You can access quite literally everything in the “Warbonds” (which are essentially never-expiring Battlepasses) just by looting the “premium currency” in-game. After 115 hours, I have every Warbond + enough credits to buy the next TWO…and I’ve spent some Super Credits on armors that have popped up in the store. It’s pretty sweet.
They’ve essentially done away with FOMO, which is huge.
Fps is easy and profitable
The thing that will push this game to perfection is building castles and all what goes with it. We will then have the full experience of a medieval Era.
I NEED THIS GAME! I’m a medievalist snd this is exactly what I want, not total war not city management, but rather village management, true medieval feudalism! The more it sticks to real medieval world of feudal rural minor lords the better it will be! Would love a social hierarchy as that would truly makes it the jewel of medieval realism.
i see the battle as a plus that wouldnt even have to be in the game, i would love more if there would be more varriants of houses, churches and that stuff that really makes a village...
Plus, people's morale, different events affecting their demands etc.! A bit of Frostpunk, I say... After all, survival in those times was comparably hard to survival in post-apo...
Yeah, I played the preview a couple years(?) back that had no battles. The city-building was so incredibly satisfying, and that alone convinced me to wishlist the game.
Why is it difficult for people to comprehend this. You are not the king, you are not even a count. You’re a baron at most. Responsible for your manor and that’s it.
I just want a city builder that has a little battle as a treat. Manor Lords looks like it’s exactly that. I hope others realize that and don’t get the wrong expectation.
I think that the reason I dropped a lot of grand strategy/4X games is because the battles just got boring
Yeah honestly games like bannerlord with the giant battles are cool at first but it eventually just becomes a grind. Bannerlord couldve benefited greatly from more city building and roleplaying mechanics like this game imo
As I watch the hunter skin the deer ... I keep wondering what the entity that runs our simulation likes to watch the most ...
Porn seems to be more popular than deer skinning nowadays, probably answers your question.
take a guess
jerking off
To be fair.. most fights related to warfare during the medieval times, weren’t huge armies clashing into one another, it was for the most part smaller bands, making skirmishes and guerrilla warfare. Pitched battles would make up 5-10% of warfare, but when it happened it was epic and documented. Only about 20% is sieges. The remaining goes to skirmishes, pillaging, bob and weaving each other’s armies, hitting the supply line if there were a campaign going on. And like today, also back then it was hard to make people kill each other and make them stay fighting and not run away.
i played the open beta last year, loved it. im here for the city building. and wait til modders get ahold of this....
Tbh, they just need to open up Steam Workshop. If people want total war-esque battles, modders can make that a reality, while developers can focus on their vision. Manor Lords has such amazing modding potential.
And mods for other time periods. Turning this game into a Caesar 3 Successor would be unreal.
@@tiestofalljays Greek city state simulator, with clashes against other City states! And custom emblems on shields.
The mods are going to go crazy with this game. Expect ones within months. Bannerlord 2 had mods out within weeks of release lol.
so true.
It will likely come closer to full release just when the game is polished abit more. Modding will be huge when it comes.
Collision detection, follow camera. Better trading options. All of these would be good.
I have hope that a lot of the collision detection a camera bugs will be fixed on launch. It would go a long way to making the game feel more believable when up close
@@AmyRadiance I hope so too. But the walking through walls has been there since the demo several years ago. So perhaps it's not considered important.
I hope we all stay positive, the way the game is built and the transparency from the dev is gold. Lets award that.
Really similar to Knights and Merchants actually, since there are battles there too, but later on, and depends on your production, not some money numbers.
They seem humble. They never made it look like it was a total war like game.
Game seems cool though i want it. I love city building games
I just think the Total War comparison is unfair and silly as they have very different focuses. To me this was always a modern Stronghold game and as someone that has played countless hours of Stronghold and the demo of this game it has met and exceeded that immensely so far. Can't wait to watch this game grow after it releases.
A realistic medieval village builder that is not stuck to a grid system, has trade and multiple resource needs, a third person free range viewer to admire your work from the villager's perspective. This is what I have always wanted.
The fact that the small extra feature of combat is done so well too is just icing on the cake. Can't wait to see this in all its eventual finished glory, plus what the modding community will do if that side is incorporated in the future.
I think this game will have legs for years
I for one am totally fine with the scale of everything. It is precisely what I was looking for; a historic city builder that also allows you to have a small army. Historic city builders are relatively rare, so this is definitively a gap in the market. Going forward I do hope that the size of the cities is increased up to the level of the small walled towns that you find in Kingdom Come. Historically, most medieval towns were tiny anyway. Larger castles and fortifications would also be great, but of course this would require siege warfare mechanics to be introduced. I also hope for a multiplayer mode where you can cooperate and compete with each other.
To me this has always been more of a Settlers/Settlers 2 feeling, I loved waching the people carry resourses from building to building on that.
this still looks worth it. imagine all the drama you can imagine while you are doing your thing and suddenly a new challenger enters the arena. time to put the drinks down boys
This channel is pissing me off. Entire game did by one man, wishlisted by 2 millions, all teasers and trailers were positive, and now these guy is talking trash about it? Simple question: why ???
The most respectful thing these youtubers could do is stop trash titles like this. My goodness man.
Exactly my thoughts well said
Reminds me of Mrmattyplays, it got to the point I just unsubscribed
And what part was untruthful ? He was going over a statement released by the Dev. The game is in a very early access state (which is fine), it's not really comparable to game like Total War nor was that the intention. This game is more of a spiritual successor to Banished.
Its absolutely nothing like total war. The people saying this either do not play total war, or they are salty that ca have had issues recently ( which are starting to get better)
For me its just how clean the game and the ui are. The dev has done a great job!
would be cool if they add interactions with residents in 3rd person mode, let villagers react to your lord based on how happy they are, if they love you, hate you, fear you etc, complain about things they lack
I am really enjoying it so far. The aesthetic experience is simply sublime! authentic soundtrack, beautiful scenery, and a nice variety of NPC designs. However, I recognise that, due to it being an early access, there are inevitably bugs. One such bug is related to agriculture. I built a large wheat farm on the highest fertility and it has barely returned any yields, despite 3 families working there.
Slavic Magic, if your reading this Comment, if your worried that people would not think the game is what they expected just add mod support there are gonna be lots of people who will modify the game to the liking of Everyone, so if people want to play vanilla, they play vanilla, if they want to play something more similar to CK3 or Bannerlord they Should be able to create those experiences which will bring players in, knowing that they don't have to wait a few months for a big update and that they can just go download a Mod even if it's not a complete overhaul, it could be extra gore, gothic church aesthetic, better field fertility, viking raiders, just that one little thing would improve the experience, just let the playerbase have it.
I concur. Since it's EA, they have time to build it to the liking of their audience
As a city builder, this is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric I have seen. One Proud Bavarian has it just right immersing in medieval history and traditional village layouts. it looks very relaxing and enjoyable, with a few battles on the side, but its primarily just an absolutely gorgeous city builder. I hope people respect that.
I'm in it for the building. Having battles on the side is very nice.
As small scale that it is you just know there will either be an expansion or mods to it to make larger maps and battles after a short time from release.
Expectation management is always important in communication - from personal relationships to producing a video game.
Hopefully they dont slap on a 50$ price tag. Which would make a potensial bad launch a hundred times worse
Been playing for almost 16 hours. Defiantly a good foundation but you really do feel how early access it is the more time you spend on one save file.
They can keep the small scaled battles but more options for upgrading/customising troops and more ability to find yourself skirmishing would be awesome awesome. I like the city builder/respurce management stuff but i think there is alot of room to make combat more of a focus should one choose to play that way
I’m just worried because there doesn’t seem to be much difference between this and the beta and whilst we didn’t have battles in the beta they were in the game (his dev version).
I really hope more is added quickly and he gets a team because I see this fizzling out very quickly with limited replay-ability
What i have seen it is one of the most beautiful games ive ever seen across any genre. Ive played games since the days of atari and commodore 64. Nobody could forget sierra's classic games or original total war. I hope more than anything it breathes life into gaming and sets a new tier, which I feel it will.
not even interested in the battle side of the game, im here for the glorious city building
Beautiful. This is legit stronghold in a modern jacket, minus the castle building. I like the implementation of soldiers(at least the militia) being made up of villagers, which puts much more emphasis on growing your villages as well as making the battles feels more threatening
"Hope for the best, expect the worst." Isolated Sim City medieval reskin
i never put this on my wish list 4-5 years ago thinking it would be anything like a total war game. i simply love the aesthetics and attention to detail even in the historically accurate construction of many of the buildings ect, and the level of realisim. speaking as a former reenactor who did living history ect i'm totally pumped and primed for this game even in early access.
This game is more like an inverse version of Banner lord. More town focus than army building vs Banner lords more army building with minor town management. Im pumped for this to drop, its been eating away at me more and more as the early access date gets closer.
this game can build up to those things that it aint yet
I didn't worry one way or the other, but I did notice that the hype was through the roof and so what I was curious about was how much meat was going to be added to the bone between the release of the "influencer version" and the launch of the early access version. It would possibly serve as an indicator of how serious the (new) development pace is now. Well, the jury is in and the sad truth is that very little has happened in that time span. It's starting to look a little like a cash in.
So my worry is that this will be another title that shows promise but sits in the wish list for years and eventually never really gets finished because the bulk of the income potential is already used up and so the incentive isn't really there. I already have a ton of those on that list and I wasn't looking for another. And so once more, early access as a concept leaves everyone with a bad taste in their mouths, everyone that is except the people who make money selling unfinished products. Let's hope I'm wrong.
It’s going to do well because it is a fundamentally well made & fun game.
As though they didnt know and that youtubers didnt know that only focusing on battles these past few weeks would lead to a misinterpretation and capture of the disgruntled TW players, it was done on purpose
To me, it was always a city builder. The combat just the cherry on top.
This is going to be an amazing game I've never enjoyed my trial and error like this before, really loving it a lot and I have put 20+ hrs into the early access just taking my time learning the mechanics and basics. So much fun and I enjoy the details so good
Hopefully Slavic Magic adds a Battle Mode where you can set up battles.
Remember Caesar III? City builder with battles. It was a fun game back in the day.
i can already see some High definition/detail DLC or mods for better animations of dragging animals/hunt logs .. smoother combat animations .. maybe more army variations .. maybe more of castle/town play ...
Edit: for high end pc owners mostly of course ;-; would be hella demanding on bigger scale :D or maybe option of merging villages into small towns in endgame
I love games where I can sit back and grow my commune. Like Rim World. Battles are fun, but it's the building up of resources. Making every piece of gear that makes the journey exciting. So damn stoked!
Looking forward to this early access for WHAT IT IS and not because of other games that may have a few similarities...
I'm getting my masters in logistics. I turned off the combat and just try to create perfect supply chains.
How much playtime does it realistically give?
Still, i think most people understand well it is a medieval city builder ... with battles. That said, i think the graphics, the gameplay, the era, maybe a bit nostalgia, is all makes the game interesting.
If you want bigger everything play Song of Syx. Its a lovely gem that also needs love and attention.
I just want an evolution of The Settlers. The Settlers also had combat, but it wasn't the focus and way less engaging than manor lords combat looks.
"I prefer to play it rather than review it" is the best review ever! 😂
I put this on my wish list because it’s a builder.
I don’t understand why the Dev is panicking a bit or even that there are so many vids saying it’s not Total War. I think it was clear from the start. I certainly understood the premise from the start and I’m not the sharpest tool in the box.
We know.
Yes this isn’t a total war killer both games are awesome well this one looks great ! Computer games are the future
That attention to detail is exactly what I’m looking for. Hopefully this comes to PS5 one day.
Will there be mods? Cause I know those psycho modders could make it *eventually* backhand Total war.
Can someone tell me the differance between this and song of syx in terms of mechanics.
First time I saw it, i said "oh hey it's Stronghold but villages" and looks like I'm still right.
Having considered pressure of fans, I believe a game with a completely different focus should be made... Without any fight on the map whatsoever! Apart from intercepting brigands raids, possibly.
I mean, a game set in the medieval period definitely should reflect the brutal nature of those times... But not to dilute the "mayoring" aspect, I would just include events, with your baron/king etc. asking for a group of soldiers to be sent to war... This would have an impact on the player's situation, of course (possible spoils of war, but also potential losing citizens; increased numbers of bandits and disabled people, enraging the king if not sending sufficienttroops, etc.), and the player would be motivated to send away an army as strong, as possible... Albeit with a risk of weakening economy too much; possibly also causing some unrest...
Playing without battles on the main map (or at least without commanding soldiers personally) would allow the author to focus fully on s simulation of life in that fascinating period... After all, within this engine we will never get battles of tens of thousands of people anyway, and whoever focuses on everything usually doesn't excel at anything... And when you are playing Anno 1800 or Frostpunk, you don't expect battles depicting all intricacies of military command anyway, right?
This is great news for me I would like them to improve the 3rd person mode.
I want to call off work tonight so I can be there for release... 😅
Slavic Magic-Greg, you are about to become a multi-millionaire, and it is richly deserved.
mods might be able to add things
They should be worried about how they're gonna spend all the money they're about to make.
It’s not bad the Lord you don’t even break the battles. What do you need to focus? Making sure you have enough bandit attacking you with Lord, even after you take over my territory.
I played the demo back last year and well i want to play that.
Do i whant mega battle? well yes but i want a city/ village manager.
finally someone who's addressing the elephant in the room, good to see!
i think a lot of these streamers who have had access to this game, has been allowed to spout an incredible amount of bullshit about what this game, what its like and what its going to be, throwing around words and terms they actually have no clue what means.
I'm not sure if you watched the video but this UA-cam said he adores manor lords because off what it is.
What are you talking about 😂😂

Warfare in Manor Lords is a means to an end
You are some Lord in bumfuck nowhere in the HRE , trying to fight an already existing Lord who has more power and wealth than you
Your armies are there for the sole purpose to continue expanding your fiefdoms , or to ensure said fiefs do not have their resources stolen by bandits
I'm so excited for this. Exactly what I want in a game. Kind of reminds me of Black and White, minus the creatures.
time to stop worrying and just let us play.
Summer is coming soon
I like playing city building games. I've been playing for so long, I havent seen one city. Because it's a village building game.
Of course its a city builder but the opportunity to make it 50% battles is also there, the foundation is there for it. It reminds me of the game called Song of Syx.
If Slavic Magic cannot get on the opportunity after he finishes the City Builder part then at the very least if it becomes moddable akin to Mount & Blade then we can easily see Manor Lords become part City-Skylines part Total War
Stop it. The opportunity is not there, and SM has never once strayed from the idea that this game is mostly a city-builder with battles added on (if you want them). It's not City Skylines. It's not Total War. It's NOTHING like either of those games. You are building a tiny village, and fielding a small army. You are what the developer is worried about. Stop with the hyperbole.

I always thought that these types of videos as huge advertisements, never forget most youtubers are influencers, so that my expectations are low when it comes to these times. It's understandable for them to worry about the inevitable negative responses but isn't most of us whose watched these early access videos get what they're going to buy when it comes out? I'm sure that in a far future warfare mechanics will be more focused upon once city building is more perfected, if a person would be misled into thinking this game right now is battle ready is lack of knowing what they're buying or other excuses. There's gameplay of this, anyone's worth their salt can obtain whether or not of buying Manor lords.
I've been accustomed to many unfinished games, waiting for years it being more developed, some never finished. All I hope for this game when buying it, is that it continues to update and get a decent modding community. I don't know if this is a common mindset but I'm willing to continue being patient.
I see more like a soviet republic workers and recourses game.
this is literally worried from success. but understandable
Stronghold 2 Next Gen - that is what it is
It looks better than builders of greece :P
as soon as I saw the end game doesnt let you get into landscaping, stone castle walls, cobblestone streets and the ability for bigger cities i lost a TON of interest. it feels like the games overall progression is only about 2/3 complete, the end game leaves so much to be desired. Manorlords tried to be a great citybuilder AND war game, but it currently looks like its sub-par at both of those things
"it feels like the games overall progression is only about 2/3 complete,"
Because it's only about 2/3 complete. That's why it's Early Access. Landscaping as in morphing the terrain isn't likely to ever happen but the rest is said to be in the works.
Just give us cavalry even if it's only 1 unit then bigger cities castle wall and it's good.
I just want to play the game.
And what are you even talking about? No one thinks this is a "total war" game. This is a village-building game like Banished or The Forest Village. It's SimCity for peasants. So what are you talking about?"
Its a dawn of man type of a game 👌
This game is precisely what it is meant to be :)
