Hey guys! In this video I finished a wood chipper and tested it! What came of it all - watch, comment and share this video with your friends! Original video - •
I really like the sturdy hardened design. It is a solid built that looks very tough. However, it's running about twice as fast as it should be. If you add some beefy gearing on the blade shaft it will slow it down and also increase the torque, Then you will have a winner. Also, I agree with others that it really needs a longer chute just in case a branch grabs your arm and tries to pull you in. Which is a super scary possibility, especially at the end of the day when you start getting tired.
@@JoelAClear One nice thing about the size of those "chunks" is that starting a fire in your wood stove is much easier with that size compared to chips.
@@giannisk36698 Would like to see how well it performs on larger diameter trunks, but the chips are way too big, imo. Should have been shorter blades close together to produce 2 inch or smaller chips, imo.
Dosen't matter if this is my voice, only few or a place lots of can rely on! This is wholesome and honest! Another resolve from being able to view somone else's art or work! I might take a risk and switch my motor bike to belt driven! It seems way more efficent than chain driven! I'm thankful for not moving on when finding somthing good! I was always like that!
It is the heat that dulls your drill bits. The heat that softens the metal from lack of lube and often too high of cutting speed. Keeping them cool helps them to last many times longer. Lube, turn slower and provide plenty of feed (pressure) so you are always cutting into fresh cool metal.
Properly lolled at the smoke-filled room around 2:40 Great build though, I think I'll use it to help teach my students! Tonnes of different processes used and plenty of things for them to discuss in terms of why you've done it like that, how else you could do it, and etc etc Keep up the good work! 👍
Good work buddy, but there is one very important thing, you should have woood feeder longer than your arm so blades cant catch you no matter what. Great video
I agree. Some random branch hooks your clothing, or gloves? Over before you can scream. Unseen wire, rope, or twine wrapped around your arm or leg? You'll probably get a single scream out, but you'll be gone before anyone hears it.
Awesome job, although I'd rather make hexagonal main shaft with 6 cutters which would result in finer, smaller chip particles. Just my 2 cents. Anyhow brilliant idea.
great job m8 but you defiantly need a slow feed roller in front of that , and not just for health and safety the stuff your kicking out is to long a slow feed roller working off the same engine with a gear reducer would produce chips not sticks , and as a bonus (ps 16 years feeding one o0f those on a daily basis as a tree surgeon in the UK ) it wont kill you faster than you can find the off button......which by the way should be on top of the feeder shoot or you got no chance , i have seen a climbers rope wrapper around a tree getting dragged in to a 9" chipper it was hilarious he was 20 feet up a conifer and the tree was bending as he was getting pulled in to the chipper ! we hit the stop button eventually ofc :-)
It’s a bit violent & the material is still too big for mulch or compost. I think it needs two blade drums that are over lapping, synchronised & running at a slower speed.
Thanks for posting the video, really impressed with your chipper. Would like to do similar, could you please tell me where I could buy a large pulley like that?
Awesome build, i like how it just chops them into twigs rather than mincing them into mulch, it makes it a useable machine with the tiny engine, the store bought units even the 15hp ones that cost 2000$ cant handle even 2" branches cause they try to turn them into fine mulch.. im just trying to reduce the size of some spruce and silver maple branches for transport to the landfill as i remove trees on the weekend for a side gig, this thing self feeds really well! if you want to mulch 2-6" branches the only solution is a tow behind vermeer with like 50HP diesel engine.. end up costing 30k US obviously not feasible do you know what rpm the blades are turning at and have you tried tweaking that with different pulleys to gauge the change in performance?
@@rimc8783 , flywheel. Remove the big part for the electric starter, cut a V shape canal and is ready. Harmonic balancer is to small. I'm not so good to write in english.
There's some talk down at the Mob's hangout and grill... They're wondering how much you'll charge for a couple of these chippers, just 3X the size. They kept calling it something else, though. They think that you build "Sausage Makers" --- "Perfect Sausage Makers" --- is what I kept hearing...
Great job ! !ust curious,if big wheel was at bottom side and small wheel at top would you get more speed at blades? Matt Or is this a flywheel on bottom side.

Those aren't chips, they're chunks. Should be called a "Wood Chunker"
@@JoelAClear One nice thing about the size of those "chunks" is that starting a fire in your wood stove is much easier with that size compared to chips.
You are wrong ...it has great torque

That's the way to go! :)
A badass chipper. The chipping chamber is solid as a rock and the engine is relatively quiet.
Excellent work. :)

This is badass. Best DIY yet.
Thank you for teaching us how to assemble a wood chopper
Nice diy job! Maybe add more blades to make it finer
Every time I see a wood chipper I think of Fargo!😂
The safety sissies would have a fit over this, but I love it. Great design.
I totally respect a man with skills. This is like going to the Olympics kind of skill. Bravo Sir!

that is a great advice dawg
Nah just get kids with short arms to work for you!

I'm so glad you said this because the whole time I'm like this is amazing but we need a long chute seperating us from blades of death sir 😭

This is fabulous machine .make this and sale it in puerto Rico.there not too many sheader available here.great sheader.
Well done, sir.

Woodchippers scare the hell out of me. This is going to give me nightmares

Haha, my sentiments exactly. Great minds think alike.
Amazing build 👍
Yep good work mate!
Good fabrication skills. Looks like a chuck and duck chipper. Please be careful looks like there's no room for any mistakes.
Very good very best taknolgic good bless you keep it up

Your a very clever, precise man.
Loved that build. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. It just eats the wood,
modern firewood chopper
wow cool... made me miss landscaping and welding. lol
Nice chipper build! We featured this video in our homemade tools forum this week :)
I’ve just watched the 2nd half, your quite a perfectionist. I bet your a well paid individual. And I’d go as far to say you deserve it too

fabrication techniques! luvvit!💪💪👍👍
Absolutely excellent job but you should have bought one.
Great job, nice video. Why aren't these on the market?
Great work..l love it..muy buen trabajo me encanta thanks... gracias..
Great effort anyway.
Great job thanks for sharing. Can i know the pulleys diameters you used?? Machines look 8cm diam and chippers 40cm???? Thanks

Was that your camera putting the yellow boxes over the welding arc?
I was afraid the bite would be too aggressive, blows the crud out of it though. My cutter limits it to 1/4 inch. Not done yet.
Nice broter
Nice biuld!
Much better than the bought ones.
beautifully done
Nice job
can you give us more specifications? motor power, shaft diameter, pulley ratio...
awesome job btw!
Looks good 👍👍
If I only had a $25,000 in shop equipment so I too could build a $550 chipper…
Great video thank you.
how wide is the gap between the standing knife and the rolling knives? smaller branches are staying untouched as ive seen
That’s cool af
Very beautiful working sir
Nice work , please u add a clutch
Unless those blades are made out of high carbon steel, they can't be hardened like that, you would have to case harden them.
Looks great! Excellent job!!! Do you have the dimensions of the various parts or plans of your wood chipper? Thank you in advance!!!
Good machine thank you
Perfect.. Super,bravo bravo
Jesus that thing looks scary before adding the covers
Maestro ,EXCELENTE !!!
Good video.i like video
The workmanship is very nice, and has an interesting concept to it- but that’s no chipper. More mike de-leafer
Great job
Bel lavoro.. sei disposto a farne un altra?
Just, beaitifull! Congratulate! You can put for us, all dimension for this project?
Beautiful,..sorry
Good idea
Che bravo! Scuramente esce dalla scuola allievi operai

Excellent job. Did you use 1/2" plate for the knifes?
Amazing
I bet this would work great on palm fronds i may build one to see
Super
good job terrific
388 people don’t understand what they saw. It’s a well made chipper.
Can you make me a similar machine but for olive's oil? thank you
I need a flywheels like that I just have no idea where to look for one.
Use a big flywheel, from a car.
@@01Autentic flywheels or harmonic balancer?

Whoa, the last thing this needs is to run faster. Just the opposite.
